The game is neat, but I'm not sure it was worth sacrificing 2+ years of development that could have been implemented into Rocket League. Glad to see they're shifting their focus back, and hopefully this is where things start to get better. I've sent over my suggestions to certain people within the dev team. Not that my word means much, but I definitely have a LONG list of ideas!

Anyone that saw the trailer for this mode knew this would be nothing like Rocket League. It’s just a random racing mode with RL items, there’s no crossover in terms of mechanics.

Not cope, but this genuinely could of been pretty good. If you made the game how rocket league was made.
You’re fully in control of the car. No button is gonna put that ball in the net without you BEING the car.
If they thought full control. Imagine air roll, imagine spinning out, imagine wave dashing, hell even forward flips and using the ceiling for a reset on flips. So much could of made this insane.
This game is just wow map design matched with Walmart split/second drift boosting and asphalt flips.
Epic L is an understatement. They missed what made people enjoy rocket league and trivialized/ruined the things they didn’t miss.
Not to mention, the boost/drifting mechanic is already done by Crash Team Racing so there's nothing new they bring to the table in terms of racing games either. They should have added things like jump and wave dash to knock people out with the sacrifice of speed etc., something new with a skill curve.
Idk why they decided to ignore nearly all rocket league mechanics in their rocket league theme racing mode. All it takes to change this is change air boosting from the bottom of the car to the back of the car, and make it more physics based and not so “on the rails” type of movement
The why is easy to understand. $$$, Rocket League as a brand sells by itself and I don't see much love actually put into this
@@T3n50r I think it's easy to understand, but for completely different reasons. People love arcade racers they can play with their friends/just pick up and play a bit. Rocket League is for tryhards, this is meant for a completely different playerbase. It just has the Rocket League name to give it a boost off the ground, it's marketing. But this was never meant to be a Rocket League mechanics simulator for a racing game. It needs to be accessible to casual gamers
@@iRaps1 Sure, and I think that is why this will be a flop. Interest for a little while and then it'll die down. Rocket League helps to create some sort of interest but mainly due to its reputation of being easy to pick up but hard to master.
Side Swipe was done perfectly as they targeted a market that hasn't been taken the Western world with storm as much, and they had a concept that translated well. Also no competitors.
For gamers and what Rocket League is known for is difficulty and reward bringing something new to the table. This game doesn't do any of that. They'll get their niche community but that's about it.
At least that's how I look upon it now. I may be wrong, but I don't see this game still being alive in a year, or bringing as much money in as investors and EG would have hoped for.

Something I’ve noticed about the air dodge, you do have to sweetspot the landing, even though it does magnetize a little bit, you either have to initiate the air dodge extremely close to wherever you’re landing or from a set distance for a clean landing. Otherwise there’s a chance you will hit the ground before the car fully rolls and you’ll lose a bit of speed from a sloppier landing.

The Racing games just reminds me the good old day when i started playing racing games when i was younger .
One thing you need to keep in mind, is it’s not meant to be or made to be rocket league, it’s just a new game mode in Fortnite! Yes it could be less rigid and noob proof but it’s Fortnite not rocket league

Using the basic idea of rocket league, controlling the car like YOU want it, use the boost as you want it, recharge or boost pads, and the idea of rocket racing would be the better game. You play Rocket League without a ball, but race around good styled maps and race to rank up. That should've been made.
I played a similar game on my phone, but the view was top down. It should be easy after a few hours of playing.
There is no mechanic that just doesn't make it a "car go vroom" racing game. The player count will die for sure because there is no replayability that is fun

Trackmania is a fleshed out racing game. There's no reason to make them do 2 versions of the same game. Now we just need the Trackmania guys to make a Rocket League alternative.
The problem is if they're actually working on UE5 Rocket League, why would they work on a racing mode to put into UE3 Rocket League
Putting a racing mode in Rocket league doesn't make sense IMHO. RL isn't a racing game just because it has cars in it. It's like to say "you know what FIFA lacks of? A tennis tournament."

Racing in RL would give you the same mechanics and develop skills for driving as fast as possible, boost management, demos, and use of wave dashes to maintain speed.
But instead there’s … this Fortnite racing game.

It’s effectively what the Asphalt games are, so you’re not wrong. I like Leth, but it feels like he isn’t willing to accept that this was never intended to have anything in common with RL aside from the items.
There’s no compelling reason to play this when there are better, more polished arcade racing games out there, and RL items won’t make up for that enough to make me want to try this.

@@okaydetar821 If you're looking for something that has physics similar to Rocket League I'd suggest Rocket Assault! It's as close as it gets, and I personally found it very satisfying to drive in once you get used to it.
Imagine doing all this work then realizing it's more fun to play the og game in a custom racing map
But, that would probably take a really big map eith a lot of tkme being put into map making.

@@Roeclean or just do what people have been asking to do for ages and just let people make their own custom maps. There are dozens of good racing tracks already, half of them featured on this channel, and Psyonix could spend all the time that they spent on writing a completely new code literally on just making their existing game better by a) allowing custom maps and b) adding their own with all the new assets and ideas that they used here. I've watched like 20 minutes of this video and I saw literally zero reasons to play it, it's literally what people do in RL but worse.

The decision to take one of the most unique games mechanically and gameplay wise and turn it into a psudo mario kart clone number 500 will always be a bit strange to me, but at least it doesn't look horrible

There are some improvements that can be made but also I feel like it’s too early to say it has no potential. It seems like it’s noob friendly with alternate faster paths and taking those faster paths is where the risk and reward come in. Because they’re not properly labeled portions which give more freedom
Most Mario kart clones look better than this tbh. Car is so big it looks goofy, driving is awful. How did a company go from RL to this.. it’s like they forgot how cars work in order to make a bad kart game.
@pkjay3941 Definitely not "almost all". They may tell you that you are leaving the track, to return before a certain timer, but you can move in any direction and any angle on a LOT of games, any that are more realistic. BeamNG, Crew 2, Forza Horizon, Dirt 4. The good racing games do not baby you. The only ones that have you locked to the track this are kid-friendly games like Mario Kart and complete arcade-style ones.
Putting all grudges aside from rocket league, this still looks like a 6 year olds iPad game
But if u spend only 40bucks u can get a really cool car

I think that the problem is in the fact that in Rocket League you can occupy any point in a 3D space at any angle facing any direction, and it seems like you are more “on rails” in this game. Which makes it feel like it’s not rocket league. I agree that the ranked mode should give you more freedom to occupy the 3D space while still progressing thru the track (I.e. not magnetizing you to the track, controlling your air roll totally). But all that comes with a cost to accessibility
It kinda looks like its made to be a mobile game with the handling and all the 'help' the game gives you.
Feels like epic saw the success of trackmania and used the car game which they own to make a version of it inside fortnite so that they could make something new but nothing about it feels like it would be fun for a long time. Just feels like a way for them to attract rl players to fortnite more than them promoting rl inside fortnite. And the fact that the developers for rl were working on this for the past 2 yrs coz epic pulled them towards it really pisses me off.

Love how Mario kart 64 is a more compelling game to play (right now). The only thing rl about it is the car(s) and the word rocket. The boosting isn't similiar, flipping isn't similiar, jumping isn't similiar. It reminds me of the newer Mario karts, with almost every feature removed, add arcade drift to boost, add direction plus cling button to switch which surface you are magnetized to. I was incredibly disappointed with how bad this is. It will probably be dead in days.
Game feels trash, not even close to Trackmania.
Glad we got rid of trading and spent resources that could've been used on the main game for it.
@@Royalrights agreed, as someone who has watched a decent amount of trackmania, I feel like it has more in common with one of those shitty racing games you play in an arcade, like cruising usa.
That's how Epic works. They just buy or clone other people's games in their engine. Usually stealing from the users that bought from the company that used to own the game in the process.
I think id prefer just the regular mechanics with a speed. Angle car and fly

What I'm hearing is features are slowly coming in early 2024. Items being in the state they are is my biggest concern. It is SO bare-bones

Great, they used over 2 years and their best developers to make a basic mario kart copy as a sidemode in fortnite. Imagine the state rocket league could have been in, great job Epic.

I haven't played it but based on this it looks extremely simplified. Like rocket league you can play for thousands of hours because of the freedom of movement, this just feels like any other arcade racing game with a rocket league spraypaint
I think he was trying to gaslight him self into thinking it's fun. He said it was fun way to many times. Someone shouldn't have to remind them selves that it's fun if the game is fun. After you've closed the game you can be like "Yeah i really enjoyed that, fun game" but during the game saying it every few minutes, nah hes huffing a lot copium. xD
it's more of a "one of the games of all time" kinda thing. If you completely remove the Rocket League aspect from it, nothing would really change. Honestly, I would be more accepting if Psyonix didn't put most of their resources into this and worked on the UE5 port instead, but alas, they blue balled the shit out of us, and for this no less.
@@blaze41 we’re all just a little salty come Season 13. Pretty much every person I’ve ask about it has said as much lol. Rightfully so, we get no content for 2 years and they drop this. Crazy. I guess the silver lining here is at least we still can play Rocket League. We can all pretend that this doesn’t exist and move on with our daily grinds.

Rocket league is a game that would work so well with racing if it kept all the mechanics (I.e. wave dashing, chain dashing, flying through rings, etc) and then to just simplify it makes it not much different from other games.

well from a rocket league player themself, rocket league is a UE3 game and fortnite is UE5 (basically asphalt on fortnite) and all the cars from RL go at the same speed and it is not very hard to get to supersonic and everyone would just be the same speed if they were supersonic

The hilariously bad part about all of this is that there wasa a very popular racing map in one of the season 8s of a chapter and it was the same thing as this (it's called nitro canyon) and it was before rocket league cars were even mentioned as being in fortnite. They can do this without destroying rocket league

I find it hard to understand why there's no music in this mode. How can they release a cartoonish racing game like this? In those kinds of games (Mario Kart, Crash Team Racing, etc.), music plays a major role in the enjoyment of the game.
There's music, for some reason it was turned off for me. I turned off menu music and it seems to have turned it all off
@@Lethamyr It must be a bug then, because I've tried the gamemode a few minutes after seeing the video and there was no music.
I think this will be a huge wiff for the RL community, BUT for the young kids and newer gamers that mostly play fortnite, this'll be a massive success. It's basically the new hot wheels game, but without the toys
The more advanced maps look cool but the mechanics are really bare for 2 years of development and I would rather them just convert rocket league into UE5 and put it in Fortnite if it makes it more popular tbh at this point

They really need to rocket-league-ise this game mode. I’m thinking demos, rumble powerups, boost pads, flips etc. Even just non rocket league additions like obstacles and shortcuts would make this a lot more enjoyable.

@@ROYteous I feel like if this game was created for rocket league players there would be less handholding and more mechanics that the player base is used too. But because this game was made for Fortnite, the players aren’t as well prepared/equipped for rocket league-like mechanics and therefore psyonix made it more user friendly.

I hate that it is in Fortnite. Then they force you to have a random character until you buy a skin. So even though I have hundreds of hours in RL, I get to feel like a noob, since I am in fortnite where I have no skins and can't even earn a free one. At least in RL there are free cars you can choose without being forced to buy one.
As far as the game goes. So far, it doesn't seem like a game many people will care about for very long. Certainly not worth losing trading for and two years of developement in RL.
Judging by how the visuals and controls look and feel, i feel that we need the Mach 5 in the game soon

I think what leth was talking about when he said it was “rigid” was that the mechanics are a lot more controlled or confined and user friendly, whereas rocket league has a lot more inputs that can be used simultaneously, meaning many mechanics of rocket league have been found that weren’t designed to be in the game. Think flip resets, wall dashes etc. There’s no psyonix tutorials on these mechanics. That’s why rocket league is so much fun- it’s the uniqueness of the game and the diversity. Rocket racing just feels like a select number of mechanics all designed by psyonix for the benefit of new players.

The gamemode is beautiful but we don't have to fall in this trick. Rocket league is another game and rocket racing can't replace it.

I think the best thing about Rocket League is that it is so easy to pick up and play, but the skill ceiling is STILL being pushed after 8 years, with no sign of slowing down. That's the number 1 thing that is so compelling about that game to me. With this, it seems like you play for an hour or two, maybe less, and smack your head on the skill ceiling.
You aren't wrong. I played for about an hour and it's basically just drift, boost, drift, boost, drift, boost and maybe jump and dodge(?) every once in a while.
It is absolutely not worth losing trading and two years of development in RL for.
@@ROYteous i agree. Hopefully now Psyonix can focus more on Rocket League like Leth said. I really think it has the potential to be as big as Fortnite if enough care is put into it. It also has the added bonus of being a phenomenal Esport.

Yes - I wish they took RL into Fortnite, with air rolling, normal boosting, etc. Also, to Leth's point of making it "kid friendly" and how that is bad, that should be KNOWN already by Epic! Like, we have "kids" that are cracked out of their mind in RL.
I do have some hopes for this game. With talks about adding more cars and customization, as well as the track editor coming in 2024, i'm excited to see what Psyonix and Epic cook up for us with this and Rocket League.

Not sure why youtubers are lying like they are getting paid to say positive things about this dumpster fire. Say it how it is... 2+ yrs of development for this garbage is a kick in the nuts to all the real rocket league players. They created a "new" game with the clunkiest mechanics for 8yrs slapped with the rocket league brand on the cover & that is it.
Just before i continue watching on i just want to mention how crazy hard those few seconds of the intro reminded me of the good ol Lego Racer Games.
Why is it so difficult for Epic Games to understand that all the Rocket League community wants is… some content?!
Putting a racing game in Fortnite and using the Rocket League IP is not going to bring Rocket League players to Fortnite on the long-term, and it’s even less likely to do the opposite (bring Fortnite players to RL).
Rocket League benefits from having mechanics and physics that are insanely good, almost scarily good. All Epic/Psyonix need to do is give us some new game modes, give us some new mutator options and it would be an amazing start. It’s not like there’s thousands of hours of creator content to use as a reference.. cough.. or like they’ve had several years to think about it… smh.
I really hope that Rocket League comes back into focus now that this is out, but tbh, I’m not optimistic.

As a former rocket league player and simulation racer…. This is officially the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen and such a waste of potential for rocket league when they could’ve just been making a huge update to rocket league itself onto UE5. I will never play this or download Fortnite as it’s insulting unless they actually do something cool with rocket league but until then, I hope everyone enjoys “rocket racing”

This looks... fine? Maybe fun, but not for long. I'm severely disappointed that they didn't just make this for Rocket League' in-game. What we have instead is a game that lacks all of the mechanics that make RL fun and unique. Would have been so great to see them just make a racing mode with a few maps in RL, but here we are.

Side swipe took the essence of rocket league and implemented it into another game. That’s what’s missing here. This game dosent have any of rocket league’s DNA besides the cosmetics. This is not a rocket league game. This is a racing game with rocket league’s face plastered onto it…
Considering this game put rocket league on the backburner, the final product is no where near the improvements that could’ve been implemented into rocket league. Im sure there is a better racing game on the app store or google play that didn’t have to ruin one of the games I love the most, rocket league. Truly a sad time to be a gamer.

Imo this isn’t rocket league and it never will be. I think it is a cool idea but if you start implementing it as rocket league but racing instead of soccer that will alienate their biggest source of new fans (racing gamers.) I personally wish that when to drift made more sense but it looks like a fun game.
Edit: I think people who are avid rocket league fans are coping and not really seeing the bigger picture. If they wanted to only make the rocket league fans happy then they would’ve just spent time on making rocket league better. (Former champ in every rank so don’t think I don’t enjoy rocket league because I do.)
Edit 2: I didn’t realize that they were also backtracking on rocket league by removing drop shot among other things from the base game. But I still don’t think that is a good enough reason to be shitting on this game. It takes failure to get better at anything and maybe rocket league is dying. So what? Games come and go.

Honestly Leth has made better race tracks, and can probably team up with someone to bring the Rocket Racing Maps into Rocket League { □.□} .... { 0□. 0□}
This is NOT rocket league, and has NOTHING to do with rocket League. They created a kids racing game that has an octane, and transferrable rewards with rocket league. Nothing else.
I'm not too old to play Rocket League, but I certainly feel too old to play this child's game. It looks so shallow and corporate.
I don't see any reason to even try it.

Im so disappointed. This isnt even a rocket league update or a new game. Its just fortnite racing. This has barely anything to do with rocket league
I feel like the reason they added this as a game mode for fortnite is bc much more people play fortnite than rocket league. They put rocket racing in fortnite to get more players than they would if they put it in rocket league.🤷♂️
I feel like people were expecting rocket league in fortnite, but it is racing in fortnite with rocket league cars.
Ranked rewards are painted OEMs with Crimson and Purple being for the 2 highest ranks.
Leth, you could check out Distance - it's a game with this exact concept (flying, racing on upside down tracks) but 100x more advanced. This is baby tier compared to that game.
if this was a happy medium between some of the rl racing workshop maps and this arcade racer style this mode has, that would be sick. Noob friendly makes it appealing to get players that never played rl to get into it but if it was more in depth it could have more longevity. Should have dropped it in rocket league instead because I see this being a ghost town in less than a month

There's a really cool game called distance that has a similar feel, like jumping, flying, avoiding obstacles. But much better in execution. Hope they take inspiration from that game for ideas as well.

Tbh the game seems really unoriginal. There’s been a lot of racing games in the same style and items are straight from rocket league. It may turn into a decent game someday but personally I’d rather play Trackmania, Mario Kart, or Sim
Also on the chance Leth is reading this, Trackmania would be great content for Leth two!

This is the second time ive witnessed Epic completely toss aside a great game just to focus on Fortnite.
The sad thing is they will probably continue to bleed any valuable resources into this versus Rocket League and we will still be at the mercy of the company for anything decent in Rocket League. Only hope is they allow for Rocket League creators to take the wheel and start streering the game in the right direction like Leth does.
Like seriously, 2 years to integrate Rocket League into a Racing Format and this is it.... Seriously just make track maps in rocket league and keep all mechanics of Rocket League. And walla!! a Great rocket league racing game.

I’ve been laughing about your parkour speed runs today. Idea: 5 hunters, fast recharge, and THEY get the 30 second head start. If they can’t stop you then add boot.
Also - this game feels exactly like the racing game's you would find in amusement arcades. You know the simulators where the seat moves and you have the paddles and such, it would be exactly like that.
All of this effort is so that they can sell an arcade game at malls and stuff like that...
This seems like Rocket Assault for kids... Not thrilled tbh.

I''m surprised they didn't put power ups into it. I expected a bit more of a Mario Kart feel. Would make it more unique to non Nintendo racing games if they had items such as the boot and boomer power ups for demos as well as got creative to make some more.
