I love this episode because it is so "down to earth" to feel you don't have to scam anyone to get into heaven. I love the appeal of this angel answering his questions. Love it!
I love it too. It's one of my favorite Twilight Zone episodes, though a lot of TZ fans don't like (or don't "get") the episodes with uplifting or "happy" endings. BTW, Hyder Simpson is played by Arthur Hunnicut, who appeared in many TV series of that era (50s and 60s). He was in an especially hilarious episode of "The Andy Griffith Show" and I spotted him on "The Rifleman", as well.
This one's great, and anyone who has family pets can really relate to it. It can't be Heaven if we're separated from 'em. This one was written by Earl Hamner, who created the Waltons. So many of his stories were based on his backwoods folklore. Terrific writer.
I agree that is what heaven is, a place of happiness for you and your pet should you have one. The ending was quite nice and uplifting, Arthur Hunnicut is a good actor, played with JohnWayne, Robert Mitchum I believe and other westerns. A good movie with Kirk Douglas, Dewie Martin was Big Sky set in the 1840s aboard the first keep boat to go up the Missouri river. He has such a good air about him and speaking.
One of my favorite episodes, I remember watching more than once over a period of days when I first saw it on DVD, it is a sweet, simple and charming episode with a good message. I am a cat man but this episode shows how special a relationship with a pet can be.
I'm 73 today 10/10/18 and have watched "The Hunt" since the evening it first aired, I have seen it many, many, times since and make it a point to watch it when I know it's going to be on. It was a great Birthday present for me today when it aired on the SYFY channel at 6am this morning.

And while we don't see it here in the clip, it's heartwarming to know that Simpson is told by the Angel that his wife will be coming down the road soon, too. And like her husband, she won't be fooled into entering the deceptive wide gate either. Just the way Heaven should be for beloved couples (and the family dog who really is Man's Best Friend). :)
I feel the same way. I could feel and touch the sincerity of it all. LORD GOD I Love you're way's John. 10"10. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I AM come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (King James Version.)

In the past I had always watched these with my aunt and complained about TZ having bad endings. She told me to watch this episode with her. This made me a fan.
My favorite image from this episode is that Heaven is not this grand city made of gold... It's simply the nicer part of the homey American backwoods. And it's not guarded by any gate: it's a big opening in the old wooden fence. It's a welcoming place! This is also reinforced by the couple of lines mentioning that Mr. Simpson was not a particularly religious man. I'd like to think that for those with more doubts and questions, the eternity road to Heaven is long enough where people could turn around and find themselves back on the right path, like Mr. Simpson here.
Colorado Strong I don’t want to ascend on Judgement day, I want to stay behind with everyone else God betrayed.
