    Thanks for this I'm about to be connected to the B4RN fibre network and I believe this will be the supplied modem. Hopefully it will be faster than my 1.0mb connection over BT copper!

      It will be bliss. If it isn't; comment here and I'll do my best to help. I can certainly help with router questions and can probably help with B4RN service questions. B4RN may be installing DX5301-B2 routers by now. Same web interface though.
      I'm jealous; I get full speed 80/20 FTTC but I'd love to be on gigabit symmetrical and real fibre to the house.

    • @freename
      @freename  Місяць тому

      The ISP who supplied it has the option to put on their own default settings which may have different passwords. You can ask the ISP. The only option beyond that is to open the router and use a serial console to try and clear the config partition, by no means easy.

    Is there a way to reset the password of the admin hub without the actual password needed?

    • @freename
      @freename  Рік тому

      That would defeat the reason to have a password! There is the users destructive way: Stabbing the factory reset on the router and then using it's default admin password on the back. This will have reset all the custom settings on the router.
      Or if the router was provided by an ISP they may have TR-069 or supervisor access to the router and can reset the password without losing your custom settings.

    hello. Nice setting interface tour.
    Can i ask you if the wifi connection of this modem/router is good or had any issue ? Thanks

    • @freename
      @freename  3 роки тому +1

      I would say that out of 100 routers I've had 5 with ongoing issues. The others might not have noticed the issues or do not have the issues. The main problem appears to be the 2.4GHz wifi going strange and not accepting the password even though it is correct. Often during this time just the 2.4GHz wireless light flashes orange (which isn't documented, Zyxel don't know what it means).
      Both flash when you use the WPS button but nobody seems to understand what a single one going orange means.
      I'm not yet sure if I would buy this router for my own use.

      @freename  3 роки тому

      I don't know the answer to your question but I can throw in my thoughts about "attacks". Unless you are doing something particularly nasty on the internet there should be no reason that you would be specifically attacked. Stuff will be scanning the entire internet all the time so you will always see uninvited connection attempts to your router.
      Unless you port forward or UPNP forward stuff through to internal things on your network these connection attempts will just drop and go nowhere. They won't be high enough volume to cause connection problems or slow downs of your internet.
      Summary: It is more trouble worrying about it than it is worth. Unless you are in the business of intentionally annoying people on the internet whilst also somehow giving away your IP address to those you annoy..

      Strictly speaking it's a reconnaissance for an attack but they didn't get in this time. Interestingly, had they got in, there would have been zero evidence in the logs as the router isn't logging allowed traffic."

      Logs would be lost on router power cycle / restart. (If you are using the Zyxel router as your only router or server type device. If someone's installed a PiHole or similar to do blocking and custom DNS stuff. That could be logging domain names visited and would store it forever).

      My dad has a router and modem but my xbox live connection gets blocked by it so I bought a Zyxel 50T modem and a TP-link C60 router for myself.
      My dad his router and modem is 3 rooms away so I'm not planning to put a long ethernet cable in the hallway to that.
      Both won't give me access to internet. Only my dad's router and modem gives me internet but not my modem and router.
      There were no install instruction included with the Zyxel modem. Only 2 green phone cables but I don't have a regular phone, I only use a cellphone smartphone, A grey DSL cable and a yellow LAN cable. A phone thing and another block thing to put in a cable. I didn't have an USB cable but the Zyxel has a USB 2.0 and a USB 3.0 port at the back.
      I did have a Wifi signal on network connections when the modem was connected to my pc but still didn't get internet access.
      And the TP-link C60 router only wants to install if Its connected to a modem and that only included instructions for the router and a white ethernet cable.
      I need to connect a modem first before I can connect that TP router.
      I also own 2 very long ethernet cables.
      A friend of mine will look up for instructions tomorrow so I will try tomorrow again.
      I'm now back on the internet on my dads router and modem. But I need to make my modem and router work so I could try my xbox live on it if it would work but both the zyxel modem and TP router refuse to give me internet.

      That's a lot of text and it's late at night here so I've not really digested it all.
      But first things you need to know.
      You can't have two routers plugged j to one cable service or DSL service.
      You will need to link into your dad's router somehow or replace it with your router and then find a way to get the WiFi or LAN to where you want it.
      That could be wifi, WiFi repeaters, a network cable or power line networking devices.
      (Ignore the VoIP and USB ports on the back of the zyxel, they are for advanced features that I doubt you need yet and will just confuse the initial task of getting online).
      I'll try and reply with advice but also remember that I can't see what you are doing or may not understand your setup, the help I can provide is limited and also do not blame me if you misconfigure something and end up with no internet!
