Oh how scary, make sure you keep contacting Joie about this issue, as its definitely something that needs to be addressed. Is there a sharp/rough bit on the plastic near where that strap is it could be getting caught or rubbing on? This video was shared in a car seat group on Facebook that I'm in (which is how I saw it) and one of the admin said this; Fraying straps are absolutely a safety concern and should always be reported. If you feel the initial customer service rep isn't treating your concerns appropriately, call back or try to reach someone else. That being said, fraying straps like this ultimately are often found to be from improper use (yanking a bad direction, installed wrong and stuck but then forced). Sometimes there's a sharp bit on the shell or a poor design element at play. Usually a perfect storm of different variables. We should always be checking our safety devices for proper function. Whether this seat, this brand, or entirely different. I hope the mum in the video is able to get her issue resolved to keep her child safe.
Thank you for highlighting this. I have 4 Joie car seats for my twins including 2 spins. I'll check. Its disgraceful how they've handled your complaint. I don't think Trading Standards wouldn't be impressed. You're protected under the Sales of Good Act - Not fit for purpose. Good luck with them.
Just to let you know Joie have a warranty on their products for 3 years usually I had 3 joie seats which broke in succession after about 18 months. They took them all back and replaced them. Eventually I took it back to mother care and replaced it with a Cybex. I high is the best product I’ve ever used!
I worked for mothercare fitting these car seats and I can honestly say it is a warranty issue and joie need to send you a replacement or refund
How terribly scary! They need to make this right, NOW!
Need to check mine now!

My straps have gotten loose all of a sudden. I don't know how it's meant to tighten. It was ever since I cleaned it 😩
CPST here…. The way that fraying is presenting looks like rodent damage to me. I had that happen to my clek foonfs.
Just to let you know
