oh wait... not that you mentioned as well as showing the footage at 3:14 I didn't realised that there was a figure there... trees growing throughout her body creating the tears... now wonder it it is called, Isma tears... Thanks man!!!
"puerile" is pronounced "pure aisle" and it means "childish". poop jokes are pretty childish, so his puerile obsession is probably the one he has with dung. but that line about his exile seems like more of an elevator pitch or a blurb for the character. it could have been a self-imposed exile, or simply an exile brought about by circumstance. I do like your idea that he was exiled for disagreeing with the king's methods for sealing the plague. another possibility, one I'm personally fond of, is that he was having an affair with the white lady. among the few characters who know his name, she is remarkable in that she actually speaks it, and speaks fondly of him besides. I don't think that's why he was exiled necessarily, since that'd be pretty hypocritical of the king in light of his thing with herrah! pretty good stuff. thanks for sharing!
@@denijsbeerjos2814 he says that you gi through the path without the flower, kill all the enemies (and don't rest so they don't spawn back) Then you go again with nearly no enemies to kill. Dreamgate is an easy way to get back to the grey mourner. Doing the path the other way around is just as easy
This "puerile (childish) obsession" might actually be him having doubts about the Pale King's plan of creating the Vessels, maybe he spent a good amount of time trying to convince his fellow Knights and possibly the King to not continue with that plan, making it sort of an obsession for Ogrim. Meanwhile the Pale King's mentality of "No Cost Too Great" would most likely make him think of Ogrim's actions as "childish" or "immature" since everything the PK's doing is meant to save Hallownest

Knowing the lore behind traitor lord makes me want to beat his ass 10 times more and im so stuck on that boss. Someone help i feel like its the next necessary step to progress
If you're still stuck at that boss, I beat the Traitor very easy using the Sharp Shadow and Dream Shield charms. As he attacks you, dash through him, wait until his next attack and dash through him again. Your Sharp shadow should recharge by the time he attacks you again and you will be hitting him with the shadow dash and the dream shield at the same time.
Blestyr thank you. I finally got past him and im to the end of the game now. NOW im stuck on the radiance, nightmare grimm, grey knight, and the final battle with zote. All of which do double damage for no reason 😑
Grey Prince Zote deals normal damage in the first battle with him. He only deals double damage if you rematch him after that, and his damage continues increasing the more you battle him until he reaches a point where he one-hits you
Im kinda proud of myself for finding almost everything on my own, its a really interesting and huge game, my second fav... maybe first... kinda on the Witcher III lvl, not sure
honestly i thought the pale lurker (the guy behind the colosseum) was the exiled one who became obsessed with its winnings from the colosseum of fools, and was later exiled to the kingdoms edge and banned from the colosseum never to fight in it again since it no longer fights there.
Holy hell what if the maggot killed that one great knight and stole his armour, I think this because the maggot mentions how he saw something sleeping safely in its armour and madness drove him to take it could it have silently killed him in his sleep to take the armour for itself
My guess on why Ogrim was exiled? The death of Isma made him depressed and made him want to protect her corpse and what was left of her, him protecting Ismas corpse made him ignore his duties, exiling him
Wait if nail master sheo doesnt like ogrim why does it look like hes making a miniaturized figure of ogrim in the video??? btw its at 10:43 you can see the tiny ogrim on the table
It’s possible they just weren’t permitted to say his name since he was exiled,I think they didn’t hate him, since he still acknowledged him as a fierce knight in his own way and sculptured a statue of him, probably so the people of the next generations will remember his sacrifice to the kingdom although he was exiled
To think all of this happened to Ogrim because of the pale king himself, damn. Ogrim was against the idea, but he probably didn’t even know about radiance starting the infection. He probably only knew about something destroying Hallownest from inside out, he does never mention knowing about radiance or the hollow knight. He didn’t know about what the pale king did to the radiance and their tribe. So he didn’t know the urgency of what the pale king was doing. He was probably kicked out before the hollow knight was born.
Well, it was heavily implied, that Hallownest is not the only kingdom in world of HK. They may show different things from this world, not necessarily related to plague and Pale King stuff.
This is more headcannon than theory, but I like the idea that DD was exiled because of an affair with the white lady (the dialogue with her saying "joyous memories" are brought back by the defender's crest), as it seems like the only thing ogrim would have done to earn exile
I don’t have anything against mossbag but I think these analyses you’ve done on the game are much more what I was looking for. I use to watch a lot of dark souls lore videos and they’re a lot like this. Showing stuff in the game to back up what you’re saying. Mossbag feels like half of his content on the game’s lore (note I say half, some of it’s okay or even kinda good) is taking everything loosely and more about his head canon. Nothing wrong with that, it can start good discussions, but I feel he doesn’t always make it clear when he’s telling people his head canon versus what he’s found in the game.
I just noticed some small details, at 10:54 if you look at the small figures on the table. One looks like the dung defender and the other looks like the knights in the kingdom

Adding on to the idea that Ogrim went against the king because of the treatment of the vessels, when you dream nail him after fighting him for the first time he says, "so there were others..."
My bieleve is that ogrim was defeated or dishonoured in battle. He didint die he just lost. When that happened be was banished from being one of the knights. That would explain what happens and his reaction in his memory or dream. Notice how he raises his hand before not after or during the part where the knights fade away. It's like he knows he was about to be banished for failing to prove he could protect the king. That is why he wanted power. Because he wanted to prove he was worthy but he never got the chance and that dream haunts him.
Puerile (it's pronounced "pure-rile") obsession means "childish obsession", not "material obsession". The "enemy" I think Ogrim was talking about was Ogrim's own childish obsession with poop. The king tried to help him get over it, but he couldn't, so he ended up exiled.
I think isma was killed by the king, mainly because of her dream nail dialogue, and that ogrim was there when it happened and that being their last talk, ogrim wanting to be taught more and with isma dieing she told him there was no time.
🤔I think maybe Orgim tried to prevent the king from experimenting, it wasn't as awful as trying to kill the king like Xero so he was spared from execution. But they had to banish him from the kingdom because he knew too much and tried to stop it.😕
Omg, during the point where sheo and the nail smith are sculpting, i think i see that the nail smith is sculpting the king, and the nail master sculpting ogrim. Of course, i could be wrong, but i could make sense. Its at 10:53
Just a heads up for Rusty/people who don't know. Hollow Knight is getting 3 free "Content Packs" that will all drop before the end of the year. We already got the first one, and the second was said to come out in the coming months from the release of HD. It has also been said that this next CP will have more lore and character development. The lead playtester, a close friend of the devs, even responded to your video Rusty! He said it was "nice, but CP 2 will change everything." We're also getting a DLC where we will be able to play as Hornet. The Hornet DLC will have the rest of the backer created content, new lore, new bosses, and lots of new things. They're also throwing ideas for a third playable character campaign. I think it would be best to hold off on any heavy lore videos/speculations until we have at least gotten all the CPs and the Hornet DLC. At that point, TC has said they feel HK will be "complete." Get excited!
Thanks for clearing all this up. I remember hearing about 2nd and 3rd characters. I'm rooting for a chance to play as Quirrel which would be tight. I think there's also an Abyss expansion planned as well... maybe? Could be wrong. What video was this response on exactly? That has me curious and that's also wicked cool that he commented.
For adding to the conversation, Team Charry said in a AMA on reddit that they'll think about exploring the 5 knights in some ways, not necessarily in dreams. Also all my hopes for Quirrel as the 3rd playable character, Zote can fuck off.
In regards to The Abyss expansion, TC has said that the Abyss we plan in is only the shore. There is an area under the giant lake near the lighthouse that is the bulk of The Abyss, and we might venture into it to see what twisted wonders are kept there. In regards to the playtester, someone posted this video in the Hollow Knight discord yesterday, and the playtester responded to this very video. That means we might get more info on the 5 Great Knights, and you might have to make a new video with the updated information. ;^)
that's the only point that contredict this theory... but maybe his greed for geo is due to the fact that he get some sort of infection, we save himfrom the control of the "bright light" in his house in the forgotten crossroad
He is the nail sage, but there is nothing confirming him to be an ancient knight. He is referred to as the sage by the nail masters, wouldn't he have the knight title if he was the knight?
I honestly thought that Sheo didn't want to mention Ogrims name because he threw his own shite to fight against his foes, seeing as two of the four knights used a nail to fight, one seemingly pummeled his opponents (Hegemol, never seen him with a weapon) and I never saw the likeness of Isma using any kind of weapon. I honestly thought that Sheo didn't want to mention his name because it would remind him of his fighting style.
You missed a little detail, I just realized myself. Sheo made a Ogrim-like modell and the Nail Smith something similar to the pale king or the defenders of the white palace. That's interesting...

I fought the dream battle and from what I can gather his armour was simply stolen.
there's no indication that he was killed. The maggot claims to have taken it for himself while Hegemol was asleep but he said it was without malice and not because of the infection. "It wasn't madness that drove me to it... I just wanted it..." Whether or not he is alive is questionable but there was no indication that the maggot killed him.
Plus how would a maggot be able to defeat one of the five great knights?
10:44 as sheo proceeds to make a statue of ogrim I dont think he was talking about him
Lel, 2 ez:
Artorias, Orsntein, Ciaran, Gough and... Ehm... And eh-... Hmmm... SMOUGH.
Thought this is hollow knight not dark souls
oh wait... not that you mentioned as well as showing the footage at 3:14
I didn't realised that there was a figure there... trees growing throughout her body creating the tears... now wonder it it is called, Isma tears... Thanks man!!!
This is the short poem that I have written about Ogrem,
"Doma doma, welcome to my pit"
"But be prepared for projectile shit"
man i’d love to see these guys in their prime, the silhouettes look so goddamn cool
Make a lore video on why cornifer's hum gets stuck in my head every time I play hollow knight
Omg I haven't heard him in such a long time, I even forgot the melody
Well the king is kind of a dick if you look at the lore.
Weaversong That the Pale King is a dick has never been in question tbh
@@skullsmitten still prefer him over the radiance, tho...
The grey mourner quest was kinda hard but if you killed all the enemies on your path and dreamgated back without resting it became easier
They must have fixed that 'cause i tried dreamgating and the flower broke
@@denijsbeerjos2814 he says that you gi through the path without the flower, kill all the enemies (and don't rest so they don't spawn back)
Then you go again with nearly no enemies to kill. Dreamgate is an easy way to get back to the grey mourner. Doing the path the other way around is just as easy
I hope they’ll make Dryya a dream boss fight
I’m really looking forward to it
This "puerile (childish) obsession" might actually be him having doubts about the Pale King's plan of creating the Vessels, maybe he spent a good amount of time trying to convince his fellow Knights and possibly the King to not continue with that plan, making it sort of an obsession for Ogrim. Meanwhile the Pale King's mentality of "No Cost Too Great" would most likely make him think of Ogrim's actions as "childish" or "immature" since everything the PK's doing is meant to save Hallownest
It’s overlooked but clear that the player character was originally going to be the one referred to as the Hollow Knight.
I guess you will be talking about thw white defender's line "the battle of the black wyrm" in the king video as it is very unknown what it is about alsi you forgot to mention HEGEMOL HAD JOKES
Also i subbed
FuzzyD the wyrm and the infection itself will probably be a much bigger video if I get around to it. Which I plan to. Lol
Thank you! I have been waiting for Hollow Knight lore videos for so long and this is perfect
Xeno Boy glad to see so many are interested. Definitely continuing this if I can. :)
Ogrim needs his own game
He only deals double damage if you rematch him after that, and his damage continues increasing the more you battle him until he reaches a point where he one-hits you
Archimonde259 he deals normal damage until the last battle with him. And you have to defeat him for 107% completion. Im stuck.
Yeah I just decided to give up on the later stages of that boss, it's ridiculous and doesn't give you anything aside from his statue turning gold
Im kinda proud of myself for finding almost everything on my own, its a really interesting and huge game, my second fav... maybe first... kinda on the Witcher III lvl, not sure
honestly i thought the pale lurker (the guy behind the colosseum) was the exiled one who became obsessed with its winnings from the colosseum of fools, and was later exiled to the kingdoms edge and banned from the colosseum never to fight in it again since it no longer fights there.
i adore this game. the setting, music, combat, story, everything, i just love. i cant wait for silksong!
Holy hell what if the maggot killed that one great knight and stole his armour, I think this because the maggot mentions how he saw something sleeping safely in its armour and madness drove him to take it could it have silently killed him in his sleep to take the armour for itself
I dig what you're spitting my guy. Subbed.
What material obsession does Ogrim has? Dung!
"Outdated"
Hm yes time to watch this
I really want a prequel to come out about hallownest before to continue the lore
hope we get a hollow knight 2
Well that sucks but I understand
Where they said that?
Well, it was heavily implied, that Hallownest is not the only kingdom in world of HK. They may show different things from this world, not necessarily related to plague and Pale King stuff.
I wish we get to fight ALL the five knights while they were in their prime (in the dreams of course~)
There has been rumors of having Hornet as the protagonist
Glad to join the channel as a subscriber.
I've never played this but all these lore videos got me wanting to doe
This is honestly the first I was made aware about the 5 great knights even after getting 105% completion and browsing a whole bunch about the game.
10:52 Sheo forgets Ogrim while making a figurine of him.
Great video, thanks for your thoughtful exploration of the lore
I love games which make you collect plot all over the game and even outside of it, just to get something trivial at best in the end.
i wonder what an isma or ze’mer fight would be like
Personal headcannon was that the king banished ogrim because he was tired of the palace smelling of literal shit
I love it how he put the Pale King on the thumbnail instead of Ogrim.
His obsession was probably dung. Also probably why he is now called the dung defender. Sorry a tad late on this
laughs in 10/10/2019
This game is pure gold, one of the best games of the year
the hollow khight lore is still mystery for me and i love playing it even i finish the game a lots
0:59 woah, that looks like the ‘white cockroach’ ultra beast from pokemon (ultra) sun/moon.
I just noticed some small details, at 10:54 if you look at the small figures on the table. One looks like the dung defender and the other looks like the knights in the kingdom
I love how as one of the nail masters are talking about dung defender they don’t remember him as they’re making a statue of him
Finding nosks cave was easy? There was a little dip in the map there that looked like it kept going and I found it? Idk if the map did that know PC but I play switch
hoi its emily yeah it was easy to see but to get there you had to have the monarch wings I think and players usually don’t go to deepnest before the ancient basin, and either they forgot about it later on or they just don’t want to come back to deepnest
@@ascended313 I was one of them🤦♂️, the place looked mad hard and ppl on ign said I could skip it for a while and then I accidently stumbled on it🤷♂️
Isaac lol
at 10:53 if you look close enough, you can see him building ogrim, so it is a little strange why he does not speak his name.
Adding on to the idea that Ogrim went against the king because of the treatment of the vessels, when you dream nail him after fighting him for the first time he says, "so there were others..."
thank you soooo much ;v; i waited for this kind of video ever since i played the game myself ;v;
I could see the pale king saying that Ogrim was obsessed with material possessions simply because ogrim defended a bug’s right to their shell.
Maybe Ogrim was exiled just because he smelled bad.
It'd be cool if you had to fight all 5 knights in a row and lastly the hollow knight and then a bench and then radiance
I think isma was killed by the king, mainly because of her dream nail dialogue, and that ogrim was there when it happened and that being their last talk, ogrim wanting to be taught more and with isma dieing she told him there was no time.
Please do more of this.
6:25 one of them looks like a ghost when you deafet hive knight
🤔I think maybe Orgim tried to prevent the king from experimenting, it wasn't as awful as trying to kill the king like Xero so he was spared from execution. But they had to banish him from the kingdom because he knew too much and tried to stop it.😕
Anyone else see that in the white defender fight the figures in the background reveal what Isma originally looked like
Yeo
Yep*
That means we might get more info on the 5 Great Knights, and you might have to make a new video with the updated information. ;^)

Imo, Hegemol was probably Sly. I mean, considering the truth about Sly and the fact that a tiny maggot can control such a big armor points to that.
Sly doesn't share the same characteristics as Hegemol. Sly is greedy and speaks with tact. Hegemol is described as soft spoken.
that's the only point that contredict this theory... but maybe his greed for geo is due to the fact that he get some sort of infection, we save himfrom the control of the "bright light" in his house in the forgotten crossroad
He is the nail sage, but there is nothing confirming him to be an ancient knight. He is referred to as the sage by the nail masters, wouldn't he have the knight title if he was the knight?
Saleh G oh THAT WAS YOU? i saw that
or maybe they were chocked we find the truth, we can't know
I pray that we get to see Hegemol in Silksong as something like a wandering adventurer
10:23 top right corner did anyone notice?
Yup
Imagine another game thats a 5 player coop with all the knights
I honestly thought that Sheo didn't want to mention Ogrims name because he threw his own shite to fight against his foes, seeing as two of the four knights used a nail to fight, one seemingly pummeled his opponents (Hegemol, never seen him with a weapon) and I never saw the likeness of Isma using any kind of weapon.
I honestly thought that Sheo didn't want to mention his name because it would remind him of his fighting style.
I hope they appear in silk song
I am from the future, where hollow knight silk song has been announced
I hope to fight the other 4 in silksong if she gets the dream nail or some time thing
You missed a little detail, I just realized myself. Sheo made a Ogrim-like modell and the Nail Smith something similar to the pale king or the defenders of the white palace. That's interesting...
This could become the greatest anime
They actually did announce a sequel. There's even a trailer out for it. You should totally go look it up,
