In this video, I will demonstrate techniques and tricks for creating a simple, natural-looking Advent candle arrangement in a boat-shaped container using artificial greenery, pine cones, dried mushrooms, artificial snowy berries, reindeer moss and more.
The colour theme for this Advent centrepiece includes shades of brown, black, various greens, and white.
Step 1: Choose Your Container
Select your favourite vessel for the arrangement. I prepared a boat-shaped pot or any container you prefer.
Step 2: Use Dry Floral Foam
You will need dry craft Oasis floral foam. Cut the foam to fit your container appropriately. Use hot glue to secure it in place if you need to and ensure that the base is stable.
Step 3: Trim the Foam
Evenly trim the foam to the desired height and round off any sharp edges if you need to.
Step 4: Prepare Your Dry Sheet Moss
Soak your dry sheet moss in a vase filled with warm water for a few seconds. Drain any excess water before covering the entire base of your arrangement. You can use a hot glue gun and mossing pins to secure the moss in place.
Step 5: Make Your Mossing Pins
Prepare a 22-gauge wire and cut it into three pieces. Bend each piece in the middle to create pins for securing items in your arrangement.
Step 6: Prepare Your Candles
Remove the wrapping foil from the candles. Heat one end of the wire by holding it in the flame and patiently insert it about 1.5 cm into the bottom of each candle at three points. Let it cool down
Step 7: Insert the Candles
Carefully insert the candles into the floral foam.
Step 8: Add Decorative Elements
Decorate with artificial branches, pine cones, and any other items you like. Fill any gaps with reindeer moss and dried mushrooms.
