Another fun fact: Jami Gertz (Star)is a billionaire, who started her career by skipping school and auditioning for an ad in her local paper and didn't tell her parents for 2 weeks until she got a call saying she landed the role as Muffy Tepperman in Square Pegs with Sarah Jessica Parker.
I was 22 and working midnights when it came out. I was living at home. My Pop said, "Wanna go see Donald Sutherland's kid play a vampire?" I haven't been able to take my eyes off him since. He's the greatest actor of his generation.
I was 11, we rented it along with a VCR and man we never went back. Super sexy and cool, A list casting across the board. I still watch it every other year if not every year, sometimes multiple times in a year.
I was 18. I felt like a weirdo for having a huge crush on Corey Haim. Then later, I found out, he and Corey Feldman were both being molested during the filming. The head vampire? Never arrested. I felt guilty for having a crush, while other men were doing all that to them. I would have protected him, and felt weird about the age difference. Meanwhile, he would be 53, if he was still alive. My sister had a crush on Sutherland. I thought she was nuts, with his weird, turned up nose, horse face, and buck teeth. Ah, well. Mom always said, "There's someone for everyone."
Great soundtrack. “Cry Little Sister” was a big hit. Another fun flick from this era of Corey Feldman is “The ‘Burbs.” Btw, when the Apocalypse comes, Cam is doomed! 😂😂😂😂
Frog and Sam were played by Corey Haim and Corey Feldom who were affectionately referred to as "the two Coreys", in the 80s, they were in several films together, they were friends and worked well together, they even did a reality show called The Two Coreys when they were adults. The mom in this film Diane Wiest , often plays moms, she is also in a film called Parenthood, which is a very heartwarming and funny movie about family. It also co stars a very young Keanu Reeves and an even younger Joaquin Phoenix. For another 80s scary movie check out American Werewolf in London.
Classic. Doesn't take itself too seriously, but doesn't go overboard by being too campy. I actually got to spend a little time with the man who plays the Head Vampire, Mr. Edward Herrmann, and he was the absolute nicest man! He lived just down the beach from my sis and bro in law, and they knew him, so when we visited, we'd get to see him. Simply one of the nicest people I have ever met.
He always seemed to me like he would be a genuinely nice fellow, and I have yet to hear anything to the contrary. I think that’s why casting him as Max was a great call. The movie does things to throw suspicion at him, but he doesn’t give off anything malicious, so you kind of don’t want to suspect him.
I wanted to be a cool bada$$ vampire when I saw this 😆. Fun fact: keifer's tears were real after his character gets burned and he says "tonight" because the contact lenses irritated his eyes (not shown)
@21:15 "Oh, here's your stake." Almost spit my drink out. Pretty good for a first time watch. Fright Night is a good companion flick to this. Vampires - check. Camp - check. Another product of these times (not the remake).
"How old are you?" "I fought for the South." "The South?" "We lost." _Near Dark_ is awesome, possibly Lance Henriksen's best work. If the camp is sought for, _Vamp_ with Grace Jones is a must.
A short time later the camera flashed to an outside scene of the kitchen and That LOOK of 'Nope! Not going into the cursed kitchen' had the ribs hurting again.
Glad that you guys enjoyed this movie, it is a classic. I recommend either An American Werewolf in London or The Howling, if you want to go with werewolf movies next. There is also Near Dark which is a Vampire Western that came out around the same time as The Lost Boys, but whereas The Lost Boys had a fun, campy undertone to it, Near Dark is pretty Dark and a bit more grounded in reality. They do not even use the word vampire in the movie so it is interesting to compare and contrast it with the Lost Boys.
Did you recognize Jamie Gertz, the love interest, was in "Twister" and "Less Than Zero"? Also, one of the vampires (the first one to be killed) was Keanu's costar in ""Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure". His name is Alex Winter.
I recommend reacting to the original SALEM'S LOT -- a great Stephen King vampire story. 1979, I believe. It aired on television and scared the hell out of me and it still is a very good scare to this day.
This thing is a cult Classic, l've seen it so many times. And it never gets old, especially when I get to watch someone who has never seen it before. Great reaction guys.
Oh HECK YEAH!!!! I already know I’m going to love this!! Don’t know if you’ll read this Cam & Zay but since you’ve watched this one, you got to check out Fright Night from 1985. Another great 80s vampire classic.
Glad you guys liked this movie. You should try Fright Night (1985). As good as The Lost Boys is, in my humble opinion, Fright Night might be a bit better.
Do you like the remake?.. I personally prefer it over the 80s one. But I really like both. The part 2s are eh to me. But I think the remake did 80s version justice but really adding to it and not changing too much
When Max said "I'm sorry... Lucy"...my jaw just dropped in the theatres... such a mic drop to call out a name from the actual source material(!). Kinda like if it was called Van Helsing's Comic Shop, lol. That was a fun watchalong with you two! I hope you try 1979's Dracula, even if just on yer own time. It's close to the novel and basically lays out all the 'rules' you'll ever need for the genre.
How ironic, I saw this movie myself while in A school in the Navy, right after I just got out of bootcamp in 1987 and had no idea what it was about when my class mates took me to watch it.
This is a cult classic. I love watching younger generations discover this movie. I was 10 when it came out and watched it so many times since then. Still love it! Such fun reaction. Thank you! 😃
CCCRRRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY LITTLE SISTERRRRR!! This movie is just fricken' great. Remember fellow hunters, "truth, justice, & the American way. Also, Kiefer Sutherland is the MAN.
This movie was an intoxicating pop culture hit for teenagers in the late 80s, who loved the tagline 'Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It's fun to be a vampire.' The whole idea of vampirism as a metaphor for being a moody, party hard teenager wasn't something that had really been explored before. Traditionally, vampires were portrayed as middle aged counts in capes, or adult women, in movies and TV, so to see these cool, leather wearing youths on motorbikes who teens wanted to be as cool as, was something new and fresh. I don't think we would've had Twilight without it, although maybe that's not something many people would be thankful for, lol.
Michael was played by Jason Patric, who is the son of Jason Miller ("Father Karras " from "The Exorcist "). Jason Patric 's grandfather was actor and stage entertainer Jackie Gleason "Ralph Kramden" from "The Honeymooners "
Glad you stumbled with a classic teen star duo from the 80's the two Corey's, (Haim RIP and Feldman) another really fun movie where the two star is License to Drive, granted not as good as Lost Boys, but still their personalities make more than half of the movie. Regards from México
The movie is set in an imaginary Northern Califonia coastal town something like Santa Cruz, Watsonville or Monterrey. There's a lot of specialized farming in the area ---- and one of the main crops is garlic. You could easily buy a huge bag of fresh garlic, especially if you crossed the hills to Gilroy, the place where they hold a famous garlic festival.
I’m so happy y’all loved this! The Lost Boys was the very first horror movie I was allowed to watch at 13 & I’ve been in love with both this movie & horror ever since!
Gilroy California is where they grow a crap ton of garlic and that is an adjacent City to Santa Cruz California... the name of the actual City they filmed in. They just had to drive a couple miles to get that big-ass bag of garlic. 😂
I was in 7th grade the summer this came out and honestly, for me, no other vampire movie has ever topped it. No surprise it can still connect with newer generations, it's just a great fun and exciting 80's movie with a perfect amount of 80's cheese sprinkled in. I'm not big on hardcore horror/gore so this kinda "family friendly" horror/drama/adventure was perfect for me as a teen and even still today. Your gagging was cracking me up though, and made me feel like less of a wuss, myself 😂 thanks Cam!
This was filmed in Santa Cruz Cali the same year my senior class came to Santa Cruz Boardwalk for senior cut Day. I remember hearing the stories of this getting filmed before it was even released . Going to see ur the night of it’s release In 87’ was awesome. I’ve been to Santa Cruz about 20times since then . Check it out sometime. Stay at the Dream inn right on the beach next to Boardwalk if you ever go.. 🌠
Santa Cruz Ca, where this is filmed is pretty strange without the vampires. The UC Santa Cruz mascot is the fighting banana slugs. And they actually have free concerts on the beach every summer.
This movie came out when I was ten years old. My older cousin Andrea, who was a bit of a rebel, snuck us out to see this even though she worried I'd be too young. I laughed the entire way through; the over-the-top gore just hit me as humorous (well, that and our family has a weird humor gene. My grandmother was horrified when she and Grandpa went to see Jaws in the theater and he roared with laughter every time someone got eaten, and my aunts used to go to Stephen King movies together and laugh the whole way through. We're weird that way.) Anyway, it's been one of my favorites ever since. I was a sucker for anything with 'the two Coreys' and this was the best of theirs. Cheesy but fun.
It is a feast of eighties stars, not just Keifer Sutherland who was one of the Brat Pack of young actors dominating films aimed at the youth audience. You have Corey Feldman who was one of the Goonies and from Stand By Me (also with Sutherland), Corey Haim played Sam, he was a teen heart throb and worked a lot with his friend Feldman. Jason Patic and Jami Gertz as Michael and Starr were as you guessed in several films together. We even had Alex Winter soon to team up with a Keanu Reeves in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, and the three older actors were stalwarts of film and TV at the time.
Great movie from the Great 80'S, Very Well Done. And Cam & Zay's reactions was so priceless to see, I am so happy they liked it. When I just became a teenager in the early 70's, there was a made-for-tv vampire movie from 1972 called "The Night Stalker" A modern-day vampire goes on a nighttime biting spree in Las Vegas. The authorities don't seem to have a clue how these victims are being found dead with bite marks and a great loss of blood. Except for an aging reporter, a man named Karl Kolchak who has it all figured out and how he goes about solving the case. The movie is very suspenseful and well-acted, I remember it had the highest rating program that evening. I think Cam and Zay should check it out and judge for themselves to like or dislike the movie.
Happy you guys liked this movie, it's one of the best vampire movies of the 80s, and one of the best ever for that matter. Here are some other vampire movies you two have absolutely have to check out: "Fright Night" (1985) "Fright Night Part II" (1988) "Dracula" (1979) "30 Days of Night" (2007) "Interview With the Vampire" (1994) "Vampires" (1998) "Vamp" (1986) "The Hunger" (1983) "Life Force" (1985) These are all top notch vampire flicks.
Cult Classic material right there. I loved this back in the day when it came out , and it still holds up today. Guess that;s what makes a classic huh?! Great Halloween kick-starter.
The guy who played Michael played a Russian tanker in Afghanistan just a year or so after this movie ( The Beast ). Amazing acting range! Also as Erick Avari from The Mummy. One of the best war movies you’ll see.
Corey Haim (Sam) also appeared in a made-for-TV werewolf movie called SILVER BULLET adapted from a Stephen King novella. Despite being made for TV, it packs a solid horror punch and features special makeup effects and transformation sequences created by Italian effects wizard Carlo Rambaldi. I’ve seen a few people recommend FRIGHT NIGHT (1985), which is well worth the watch. It’s a very 80s horror-comedy in all the best ways.
In real life the actor who played Michael had a very famous grandfather from yesteryear. His name was Jackie Gleeson and had a tv show in the fifties called The Honeymooners and was in Smoky and the Bandit with Burt Reynolds in the late 70's and was HIGHLY known.
This was the best reaction to this cult classic I’ve ever seen! It was my favorite movie when it came out! Thank you so much for taking me back! RIP Corey Haim!
Yes, I was in college when this came out and we loved it soooo much! Totally 80s style, music (The Doors was from the 60s but huge in the 80s, along with INXS, who were top of the world then), humor & action. The actors were so good and well known & liked. Everything was perfect. Such a cool combo of funny, scary, gory, adventure, family dynamics, romance etc. There's nothing really nothing like it anymore, except when shows like Stranger Things purposely emulate the 80s. Great reaction guys!
This is one of my favourite films, I watched this every day when I was a kid. I was too young to see it when it came out at the cinema but on the 30th anniversary I managed to see it on the big screen and it's soooo much better! One of the best movie soundtracks. Another great reaction 😊
They filmed this in Santa Cruz, California where I lived a lot of my life. And before this movie came out it was a little known area and then afterwards the popularity exploded. Just FYI, they named the town Santa Carla in it because of the reference to the murder capital of the world which in the 60's was true. Even my good friend in grade schools mother was murdered so S.C. did not want the stigma of that term in this
I would recommend An American Werewolf in London, its a fantastic take on the Werewolf genre with amazing practical effects, particularly the transformation. It is also packed with humour.
Now that you’ve watched Lost Boys with Dianne Wiest I suggest one of the funniest movies of the 80’s called Parenthood. It’s a comedy starring Steve Martin, Dianne Wiest, Keanu Reeves and Joaquin Phoenix. Its really funny and could be a nice change of pace. It’s not at all Halloween themed but it’s a good one.
Nice recommendation! Parenthood is easily one of my favourite Ron Howard films. He always excels when he’s directing a large ensemble and Parenthood assembles a helluva cast. I’m a huge Dianne Wiest fan (especially her Woody Allen films) who is fabulous in Parenthood, along with Mary Steenburgen, who is also in one of my fave time travel films: TIME AFTER TIME (1979) with Malcolm McDowell and David Warner. It’s a total trip seeing San Francisco in the 1970s.
@@craigmartin3827 I love Dianne, she’s really terrific. Really loved her in Hannah and her Sisters. I feel like Cam would be a Woody Allen fan but it could just be that he reminds me of him a bit. Lol
Great reaction guys, yes spooky season is upon us!!! I love anything Vampire and this is definitely one I watch leading into Spooky season!! Can't wait to see what all you have planned
Loved this reaction from you guys. I'm an old school dude, so this movie is my favorite vampire movie of all time. Interview With A Vampire is a close second. That is a must watch. Sidenote: Cam really needs to tighten up his gag reflexes as you guys are getting into more horror movies 😄😄😄
Classic…. My oldest daughter is 20 and scary movies never bothered her and this was her first scary movie she watched….. she was pretty little when her grandma showed it to her while they were camping at a lot they owned at a lake… came home and told me and I’m like omg did it scare her!!??? Nope not at all… for her 11th birthday we went saw Annabelle and she was not impressed….. at 11… lol I was the same way. But my youngest doesn’t do scary, she won’t even dress up scary for Halloween… funny how siblings are different like that.
Great movie. Great cast. A lot of the actors did a lot of stuff. Star, I know was in Seinfeld and Twister. You've got Mouth from Goonies and The Burbs. In fact, him and Sam were in License to Drive, together as well. It goes on and on.
Fun fact: the actress who played “ Starr “ Jamie Gertz is the richest actress in the world, even though she did not do a huge pile of movies. She is worth 8 billion dollars, a financial wizard she made huge lucrative investments.
This is probably my favourite movie of all time. It’s perfect to me. It’s got vampires, the whole 80s soundtrack, style. It’s such a cool and quotable movie. I’ve never had a bad time watching it. Also all the overhead shots, swooping down and seeing the boardwalk lit up is just amazing
Great reaction to one of my all time favorites. The director Joel Schumacher I got to interview in college and he actually helped me get started in film production so it has special meaning for me. My favorite thing is that it's such a well made and stylish horror picture and the casting for all the roles was perfect.
Thanks, Cameron! Thanks, Isaiah! 🧛♀ I was 19 when this came out... very popular with my friends. #CamAndZay #JoelSchumacher #TheLostBoys #TheLostBoys1987
This movie was incredibly influential on the vampire genre. I'd also recommend Return of the Living Dead. It did for zombie films what this one did for vampires.
80s movies are so good my childhood YALL GOTTA SEE THE GOONIES
Fright Night 1985 is another unique vampire film from the 80s.
Fun Fact: The actor who played Michael, Jason Patric, is the real life son of Jason Miller who played Father Damien Karras in the Exorcist
i thought i heard that but wasn't sure
He’s also the grandson of Jackie Gleason.
@@dukey19941 Sounds like the real fun fact is Hollywood nepotism :P

What????
I was 13 when this came out, and I think I speak for a lot of Gen X ers when I say this was the vampire movie we were waiting for.
I was 22 and working midnights when it came out. I was living at home. My Pop said, "Wanna go see Donald Sutherland's kid play a vampire?" I haven't been able to take my eyes off him since. He's the greatest actor of his generation.

You have to see "American Werewolf in London" and "Fright Night" to complete your eighties teen horror cult classics lol. Great reaction .
Great soundtrack. “Cry Little Sister” was a big hit.
Another fun flick from this era of Corey Feldman is “The ‘Burbs.”
Btw, when the Apocalypse comes, Cam is doomed! 😂😂😂😂
Cory Haim's wardrobe in this film is insane.
In the vampire world, when they make you see maggots or worms or whatever they want, it's called glamoring. I read a lot of vampire stories. 🤷🏻♀️
Frog and Sam were played by Corey Haim and Corey Feldom who were affectionately referred to as "the two Coreys", in the 80s, they were in several films together, they were friends and worked well together, they even did a reality show called The Two Coreys when they were adults. My sister and I were obsessed with the Coreys 🤭❤️
Feldman.
She was also in Footloose as Ariel’s mother and Edward Scissorhands as Kim’s mother, the one who found Edward and took him in.
Classic. Doesn't take itself too seriously, but doesn't go overboard by being too campy. @@dwcinnc He actually played FDR twice... In the mini series and in The 80's movie Annie 😃
@dwcinnc FDR in Annie too!

I think the Frog brother's hippy parents are the reall heroes here 😂😂
Lol the hippie couple asleep all the time were the parents? 😂
This movie is timeless…iconic.

My Favorite Vampire Movie & Amazing Soundtrack ❤
Never get tired of this classic! Saw it when it came out at age 17. One of the best times i had in the theater.
Also Terminator 2
@21:15 "Oh, here's your stake." Almost spit my drink out. Pretty good for a first time watch.
Fright Night is a good companion flick to this. Vampires - check. Camp - check. Another product of these times (not the remake).

We're the strangers and they're looking out at us.
You guys need to check out FRIGHT NIGHT (1985) and NEAR DARK (1987), two more classic vamp flicks from the 80s.
Fright Night is close to this (campy) while Near Dark is a gritty take on the genre which feels more 'real' than most vampire movies.
"How old are you?"
"I fought for the South."
"The South?"
"We lost."
_Near Dark_ is awesome, possibly Lance Henriksen's best work.

Such a fun film with terrific music. Also One of the vampires is played by Alex Winter who was Bill in the Bill and Ted movies.
Death by stereo was one of my favorite lines. It was awesome in the movie theater. I also love this movie’s soundtrack as an 80’s experience.

We even had Alex Winter soon to team up with a Keanu Reeves in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, and the three older actors were stalwarts of film and TV at the time.
Thank you for mentioning Alex..first staked
Fright night would be another good eighties vampire movie for you to watch.
NEAR DARK is the OTHER 1987 vampire movie that kicks ass. I think they're 2 sides of the same coin.. different but similar.
Happy you guys liked this movie, it's one of the best vampire movies of the 80s, and one of the best ever for that matter. Here are some other vampire movies you two have absolutely have to check out:
"Fright Night" (1985)
"Fright Night Part II" (1988)
"Dracula" (1979)
"30 Days of Night" (2007)
"Interview With the Vampire" (1994)
"Vampires" (1998)
"Vamp" (1986)
"The Hunger" (1983)
"Life Force" (1985)
These are all top notch vampire flicks.
Cult Classic material right there. I loved this back in the day when it came out , and it still holds up today. Guess that;s what makes a classic huh?!
Great Halloween kick-starter.
Such a great movie, it's always been a favorite of mine.
Every kid in the 80's watched this movie. We all essentially thought of this when we thought Vampires & we all wanted to be Vampire fighter kids!
Saw this in the theaters at 10. Changed me life, it did.
Such a classic movie. So good! it’s scary, funny and original. Lots of 80’s famous stars.
What you said. I miss INXS!
@@kellifranklin9872 Me too! INXS was a big part of my life in the 80s/90s & their music means so much to me. Saw them live once & they were amazing.
That look from the Famiiy is like "What the fuck, you could have TOLD US about Vampires"! LOL
Even my good friend in grade schools mother was murdered so S.C. did not want the stigma of that term in this
Santa Cruz pier is awesome!
One of my fav films. I loved vampire lore when I was growing up. These are vampires - not the glitter vamps from Twighlight lol.
I would recommend An American Werewolf in London, its a fantastic take on the Werewolf genre with amazing practical effects, particularly the transformation. It is also packed with humour.
My all time favorite vampire movie. Also love interview with the vampire.
Lol
Great film and even better soundtrack. Great choice!
Great reaction guys, yes spooky season is upon us!!!
I love anything Vampire and this is definitely one I watch leading into Spooky season!! Can't wait to see what all you have planned
This is a damn CLASSIC!!!!!! Best vampire movie ever made!!
I'm so glad you both liked this movie. This is one of my fav movies when I was a teenager. ❤
I haven't even begun watching yet, but know this will be fun! :-D
One of Joel Schumacher's best.
Falling Down is his greatest but The Lost Boys is number 2 for me.
Killer has such screen presence in this...but then he always does🎩
Did you know that Jason Patrick (Michael) is the son of Jason Miller (Father Damien Karras) from The Exorcist?
so it is true, thnx
Saxophone Guy!
And, oh yeah, some vampires.
Y'all must not have seen "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure", or you'd have recognized the first Vampire the Frogs killed as Bill S. Preston.
I was in high school when this came out. The soundtrack is awesome.
Such a classic.
Cam is funny heaving at the 2 scenes LOL
I subscribed because of the gagging. I have tears rolling HAAAHAHAHA
I'm so happy you guys enjoyed it! I saw this in my preteens and I still watch it at least 1X a yr!
As someone who was in Santa Cruz the summer they filmed this movie, believe me when I say that town didn't need no vampires to be any weirder.
The 2 Coreys. So sad that Corey Haim (the younger brother) left us so soon.
I'll 2nd some other recommendations for Fright Night.
I can’t help but watch this whenever I see it come on. One of my favorites!
Great reaction to one of my all time favorites. The director Joel Schumacher I got to interview in college and he actually helped me get started in film production so it has special meaning for me. My favorite thing is that it's such a well made and stylish horror picture and the casting for all the roles was perfect.
This movie was a big part of my childhood and very re-watchable! Must have seen it at least 30 times 😂
I recommended Fright Night (1985) myself and this also fits the same 'style'. Mild gore horror with a lot of camp based on classic 'monsters'.
Yeah, a direct inspiration for Brujah clan vampires in the _Vampire: The Masquerade_ RPG, and the behaviors of much less lawful Sabbat vampires.
@@0okamino I still have the patched version on my PC :)
