In making the odorless pig pen, the area of the main part of the pig pen must be 1.5 - 2 sq. m per pig The length of the pen must be facing east so that the pigs can get Vitamin D from the sun. The roof must be 10 m from the top and 8 m from the end. For 10 piglets, a 4 x 5 sq. m area is fine (excluding the wallowing pond and the feeding trough).
For the materials in making the pen, you can use indigenous materials like bamboo, nipa, anahaw, etc., scrap wood, second-hand galvanized roof steel bars and concrete. If you already have an existing pig pen, you can refurbish it as long as the area fits the above mentioned dimensions. Make sure the fences are ventilated enough for the wind to pass through.
For the wallowing pond, add 1 meter to the width of the pig pen. It is most recommended that the pond must be in a slope so that you cannot adjust the depth of water to replace every time you clean it. Typically, the depth of water you add in the pond varies on the age of the piglets. For what I remember in other videos I watched, you add an inch of water every month (1 inch for 1-month-old piglets, 2 inches for 2 months old, etc.). You need to clean the pond and replace the water with a new batch at least once a day.
Install nipple drinkers on the wall near the pond that you can adjust every month because pigs don't like looking up and that the water may go to their luings. If the drinkers are not adjustable, install them in varying heights. I suggest three drinkers for each height so that more pigs can drink at the same time. Nipple drinkers should be installed near the pond so that excess water can go straight to it.
For the feeding trough, it must be 10 inches wide and must be concave so that it will be cleaned easily. Add separators (steel bars are recommended) in between to prevent the pigs from sleeping in the trough otherwise they won't eat the feeds. The trough must be parallel to the wallowing pond, that is, at the other side of the pen. Make sure the fence next to the trough has an opening where you can add the wet or dry feeds from the outside. And since Feedpro feeds can be fermented, you can add a funnel made of concrete or plastic outside the fence that leads to the trough so you can pour the fermented feeds through it.
For the flooring, it is usually recommended to use rice hulls so the pigs can be comfortable and do their natural habitat of digging. It should be at least 2 meters deep wherein you fill it with soil first before adding the rice hull to absorb any moisture. Add more rice hull once they shrink, and replace them every harvest or at least every 4-6 months.
If you can't have, or don't want to use, rice hull, you can also use sawdust, wood chips or dried leaves instead. If they are still not available, you can then use concrete flooring. Makre sure the wallowing pond and feeding trough are still present because cleaning them by hose too much sometimes can lead to illness. The setback for this, however, is that the pigs may not be able to do their natural habit of digging.
