    Martin, this reminds of the "Carousel of Progress" at Disneyland. At the end of each era you watch, they always say, "Things just keep getting better and better". Your Bonanza is like that. You keep adding and improving what was already a pretty great aircraft and it just keeps getting better and better. This was indeed a fabulous addition to your panel. Congrats!

      Glad you like them, Tim! I wish I could promise more of them in the near future, but this may be it for a while. At some point, there'll be an EFIS and a new autopilot coming to my Bonanza, but that will require me to save up - we are talking real money here.

    Martin...I don't no whether to blame you or thank you! After your PMA 450B video I decided that this was the upgrade I have been waiting for. So I swapped my PMA 450 for the "B" model and now have it installed in my Arrow. The only glitch was the "alert" function which requires a "special" installation manual for dealers only. So after I spoke with PSE who then sent this new manual to the dealer, it was back over a mountain pass here in Colorado and then only about a 20 minute configuration change. Now the 450B "reminds" me of a "Master Caution" and low fuel situation from my JPI EDM 830. I particularly like the "auto" feature of Intelliaudio as well as the dual bluetooth channels, one for my iPad mini and the other for the iPhone (ground use ONLY, of course :) ). Thanks for spending my money for me!!!
    Jim

      @@martinpauly Martin... I won't hold this against you ! :) If you do connect the "alert" messages know that the connectivity information to do that is NOT part of the owner's "installation manual". It is in a dealer-only supplement. I have my alerts set for the "master caution" alert and also a low fuel alert from the EDM-830. Hopefully Oshkosh will be held next year and, if you attend that rather than your LONG bike ride, I can have the opportunity to meet you in person! Cheers...Jim

    OK Martin, I’ll admit it. I thought trying to hear two ATIS’s at the same time would be useless, but I put in my earbuds to try it anyway. It was amazing! I could actually clearly hear either one by concentrating on it! Hmmm... maybe time to upgrade my PS Engineering unit also!

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  3 роки тому +1

      Two ATIS transmissions at once really IS useless - but it is a nice example I can reproduce, to show the difference from the old audio panel to the new with IntelliAudio. That's why I did it.

    Very cool. There are some awesome military intercom systems that can use 3D audio to give a spatial indication of traffic alerts from the EGPWS system and also ties the physical location of cockpit items, like Fire handles and landing gear levers.

    • @martinpauly

    Love PS Engineering! I wish they made the 450 to be pin compatible with the KMA-28. I can only upgrade to the 7000BT. The problem with replacing an audio panel, is that if it is not pin compatible you will pay a lot on labor since the audio panel "touches" all the other hardware...

    May be a dumb question, but how did you get your music to your phone? Did you have cell service? Or do you have wifi from your plane? I've been trying to figure out a way to get music on the cheap without paying a grand for a receiver for SeriousXM. I was thinking about getting another antennae for a "portable" receiver I use in the truck. Maybe I'm just overlooking something obvious. I had all new stereo jacks installed when I just upgraded to an Avidyne AMX 240. Oh, I forgot to say what a great sounding system you now have. Well done.

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Wayne. I'm somewhat old school... For most of my listening, the music is stored on my phone. That way, I don't have to worry about having WIFI or even a cellular signal. The thought of getting XM for the plane for music, news etc. is actually pretty nice - I have it in the car, and so far I shy away from the additional subscription cost for the plane.

      Hi Bill - It does have this feature. (I also have the PMA450B). You hold down the Com1 or Com2 ("C1" or "C2") receive button for about 1-2 seconds, and it replays the last transmission received on that channel. You can then hold the button down again to skip to previous transmissions. It works well, but I personally wish it had a dedicated button for this purpose, because I use it often.

    G, day Martin from SYSS Sydney, Australia.
    The PS Engineering ps8000 radio receiver is amazing technology and thanks for the tour of the manufacturing of this electronic component.
    1. My first impression was dislike to hearing two radio frequencies audible at the same time. My critical analysis is:
    My plane identification, ATC comms, that relate to that plane.
    2. Separation and heading (vector) of other aircraft in my region (review again with radar and voice warning). And VFR.
    If Bluetooth; via Iphone for music or telephone: will the ps8000 prioritise ATC or traffic warnings?

      Hello John. I don't believe anybody really LIKES hearing two transmissions at the same time - but sometimes when flying single-pilot IFR, there isn't a real alternative. Also, by law we are required (at least in the US) to monitor the emergency frequency 121.5 when flying.
      When playing music, you can select ("mute mode") if radio calls silence music or not.

    Garmin has their 3D sound which is similar to this. Since you have the ear of PS Engineering, maybe ask: how great would it be if there was a mode where it recorded com2 and paused playback while com1 was receiving but continuing to record? Once the com1 message was complete, com2 would resume. This way you could listen to the ATIS uninterrupted without having to go around 3 times to make sure you got everything. You could also have it so com2 manually paused. After receiving a call, manually pause com2, reply, continue with com2 when ready. RW, FF, seems like a good idea for the deluxe version, too. Both Garmin and Avidyne currently record messages and can replay them like PSE's IRS, but none seems to buffer the ATIS and let you parse your way through it as you have time. PS Engineering could jump to the front of the line.

    Thanks for another very interesting video! What would be really cool, if the audio panel could filter my callsign from atc. Isn’t that the case with HF coms in airliners?
    Really cool that PS is doing it all in house. You can tell that he’s proud of his accomplishments. Well done.
    Now I need to check PS website. I still have this ancient PMA8000B... ;-))

      Hi Timm,
      You are referring to SELCAL, which alerts the crew of an incoming call for their flight. SELCAL goes far beyond the audio panel, and requires ground equipment as well. But who knows, maybe in the future there could be a voice recognition feature built into our radios or audio panels?
      Regards,
      Martin

      Martin, I just talked to my avioncs technician about 3D audio. He said, that it requires headphone plugs to be stereo-wired. Was this the case in your Bo? I’m pretty sure it didn’t came from factory like that. Not sure if mine is. Its a 1992 A36. Need to check. If not, I would leave it alone.

      @@timmholzhauer3342 Correct, you need the installation wired for stereo, which is very easy and quick to do at least for the pilot and copilot jacks. It might add a couple of hours of labor to the installation, and $10 worth of parts.
      The ones for the back seat are harder to get to and usually require the removal and reinstallation of some interior parts, for the wiring. My A36 has the pilot and copilot jacks wired for stereo. I did not bother upgrading the passenger seats in the back yet - one day I may redo my whole interior, and then this will be added.
      A couple of other thoughts: (1) You probably want stereo just for the music anyway, not just the IntelliAudio - meaning many installations with a GMA340 or similar older audio panel are already stereo for that reason. (2) It goes without saying that your headset needs to be stereo as well.
      Regards,
      Martin

      @@martinpauly I checked my headset plugs. They are stereo wired! Yeah!
      Have you looked at the GARMIN GMA345? I have an almost all Garmin panel, so I’m thinking if that would be a better fit. It has pretty much the same features than the PMA450B.
      My impression is that you’re not the biggest fan of GARMIN... I guess that has to do with your job. ; - )

    Another great video, Martin. I think you have posted this before, but can you remind me what headset you use and how the ANR compares to Bose A20 or other ANR headsets? Thanks!

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  3 роки тому

      Hi Brian,
      The headset I use is called Halo, from Quiet Technologies. It uses foam plugs in the ears. Attenuation is very good, though not as good as the top-end ANR headsets. On the plus side, you get something extremely light-weight with no pressure on your head/ears. And you never run out of batteries with the Halo. 😁

    So how do the Halo headsets sound with that system?

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Dan, the sound quality in the headset has not changed from the PMA 8000BT I had before. The 8000 is already excellent; the 450B adds more configuration options, a much nicer interface, and a second independent Bluetooth channel.

    Does the Bluetooth mode support siri ? :-)

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, but... If I merely say "Hey Siri" into my headset, the phone won't respond. Same is true when I connect the phone to my car using Bluetooth. Now, if I activate Siri with the side button, then yes, I can use Bluetooth to talk to it through my headset and intercom.
