Wow, I was generally surprised that that one woman didn't prefer the gentlemen roles. I understand her concept of both genders being equal but I have always found gentlemen to automatically be more attractive. It's an important trait to me :') Each to their own!
well, I only believe that what girls (japanese girls) think about when they think of a "gentlemen" is someone holding doors or stuff like that when that's really just being a normal polite person.... I've been in Japan and guys don't have a lot of manners. Anything over that will please japanese girls. Not that white guys here have manners, but yeah, I feel like japanese girls don't set their bar too high. Well, they better not if they wanna get married before 30 lmao
About the "gentlemen" thing, Personally in my relationships i feel like it's great when it goes both ways. My ex was very attentive to those small things like offering to grab me something i forgot upstairs or carrying my heavy backpack to his room (also cause i was physically MUCH weaker than him lol) or making me tea, however i reciprocated these gestures as well by doing little things for him too like putting food on his plate or giving him some of my food extra or last bites, or putting away his clean laundry and giving compliments. I really appreciate it when a guy does little things like that but I love to be attentive to him as well so I guess it also depends in what ways you like to show your love 🤷🏻♀️😁 This is what works for me but I understand that other people like or value different things, you just gotta find someone you're compatible with 🤗
I'm with the Japanese girls on this one and always disagree with my western girl friends about it. How do you not love it when a guy you like tells you things like "I liked spending time with you" , "you look pretty today" or even pats you on the head. I like things other girls around me find cheesy or a "sign of the patriarchy", but like c'mon girl I love him, can I not be happy when he gives me that kind of affirmation or shows consideration towards me without going against feminists?

To a native English speaker, how to be a better lover implies improved sexual technique. How to be a better boyfriend or husband is actually the subject.
Risa and CathyCat together again! Fun video. Having received a complaint from a young lady I held a door open for I'm not really surprised by the women who don't want this, but to each their own.
I really like how in Japan girls appreciate if a guy is a gentleman, as a young guy from Europe I find that a lot of girls I meet don't really appreciate it that much anymore. Something to thing about after college I guess:P
As a girl in the US, I was surprised at that one woman when she said she doesn't really prefer the gentlemen roles. I have always found that attractive, so I assumed most women liked that as well but I guess not :')
I'm watching this after learning the first four sets of hiragana on JapanesePod101 - it really helps to have some context for Japan's cultural preferences and mannerisms, especially in line with learning the language and accent. It also helps to have somewhere to practice listening to regular Japanese conversations whilst learning about their opinions and rules.
The fact you can do something for yourself is besides the point. That's very individualistic thinking focused on your satisfaction alone. Relationships are naturally give and take. If someone adds you to the equation in their thoughts and actions to accommodate you, be grateful they do. Denying the satisfaction of giving for someone you care about out of strict principles of being fiercely independent is a selfish state of mind.
@@Sannypowa Haha, I will say I think there are a lot of western girls that are like rockstar groupies a lot of the time, and some that aren't, and the reverse is true for Japanese girls. But the girls in this video certainly weren't doing themselves any favors.
That ending I thought Risa said "Now *we* can be best lovers!" My heart skipped a few beats, would be a great romcom 10/10 Alas, captions ruin all the fun!
All of the Japanese people seemed to give simple and understandable advice, that makes sense. Intuitive advice basically. The westerners on the other hand were a bit more varied and some strange. That's expected I suppose, considering modern western ideologies.
Egocentrically driven. I guess being pampered all your life and environmental factors play a part in that. I am talking about westerners. Japanese got class and the don't give a shit about what cars they drive. They are so tiny...👌😑👌
A gentleman, a man with good manners and confidence all the way. The girl who says "i can do it myself" remind me or radical feminist in my country, they dislike everything about men. And the ones who say " be a b*tch" no ladies, treat others like you want to be treated.
It'll make me so happy! I mean you don't really expect a confession to be written on the bottle. Also, preferably the person who confesses should be next to them when they drink it all so they can also say it directly in person.
One of my exes who grew up in China taught me the thing about walking on the street with the cars. I never heard of that. I think it's because I grew up in a town where you didn't really walk anywhere. You drove everywhere. So when I moved to a big city where you walked everywhere, it never occurred to me to do that until she told me to. A lot of the stuff the Japanese women said is stuff I do for girlfriends without really thinking about it. Like going shopping with them without complaining, carrying their bags. It definitely works. But you can never mention it. You just have to do it without any fuss or announcement. Otherwise it comes off as meaningless.
Nice Video. However, there was one thing that annoyed me. It was when Cathy Cat kept on interrupting Risa's time asking questions to foreigners. At 0:20 it was mentioned that Risa will be asking foreigners and Cat will be asking Japanese.
"I can open the door myself"... I don't get this attitude. I'd hold it for anyone, don't care about your fucking gender. Just trying to make your day better.
I really appreciate Japanese people. I have learned a lot about life from Japanese culture. I am praying that the Corona virus goes away, and Japan is protected. God bless Japan, and the Japanese people.
This contrast between Japanese and Western opinions on how to be a better lover is precisely why Western men are going abroad to different parts of Asia to find a partner / wife.
VictusPrime yeah, totally man. The feminism 2.0 is ridiculous ("I can open the door by myself" "I don t need a gentleman", " our lives matter the same amount" "I need my personnal space" "a gentleman is a patient wolf" "be mean to them and they ll be keen".... PA-THE-TIC".... I respect the feminism 1.0 where women fought to have real rights (abortion, being able to vote, to rule the country, to take the pill, to have the same salary as men... )
Watching this video makes you understand why some western men often go abroad to find love. Those western women were terrible, imagine if that was your dating pool.
I feel that the Japanese women wanted gentlemen because it's not as common in Japan. For them, the idea of "ladies first", men opening the door for a woman or pulling out a chair to sit etc, is a western concept. Actually traditionally Japanese women were expected to literally walk behind their man. Whereas with western women, some of us are tired of the gentlemen courtesies because we don't want to be treated better or lesser than men, but equal. I like the girl who mentioned why should a guy go out of his way to walk next to traffic, both lives should matter equally. I feel like both mentalities are understandable. In Japan where women are used to be treated inferior in a lot of situations, of course they are going to love the occasions where they are treated special. But in the west where we are used to these smaller courtesies, we feel that we don't really need them.
DriveByBodyPiercer well said. You’re the only sensible comment here that was able to look at both sides. So many butthurt people. As an Asian, I appreciate the small things too but not necessarily a requirement for being a partner. As long as he respects me, I think that’s more important.
I agree with japanese side lol Japanese are so well mannered. I love Japanese culture. If I could only speak the language. I would work there and never come back to western culture lol😑
5:40 Wow!!! I was just thinking about exactly that. How my swedish ex-girlfriend was annoyed, almost angry with me about holding the door for her. While I am just trying to be polite. While my japanese friend appreciate it. What is wrong with behaving civilized...?

I think there's still too much stigma about this, even since a young age: kids often are seen with dolls if they are girls or doing fake housework childplay, whereas the boys play with x-men and action games for example. and if a boy or a girl want to do it the other way around, then they get shamed or criticized for that, it's ridiculous because playing with other toys when they're curious about it and want to have fun does not make them less of what they are. as for some of the japanese who answered... the guy with the coke caught my interest because he seems to care enough to use creativity and be original to the person he likes. one of the girls also mentioned that going shopping would be fun and she would carry her items no problem and wouldn't tire out the guy with the bags, unless if she really needed help - which identifies with one of the foreign women, you can help but don't be overwhelming. the conclusion i take is that there is still stigma around but other than that it was interesting to watch.

digformyphone it will obviously be reciprocated. Women also like to serve their boyfriend/husband. Like for example, cooking, giving presents, being caring, helping you out on little things, or even support you on big things, birth a child etc, There is so much woman actually does for her man. If you think about it you’d actually be happy to do little things for her.

If you think about it you’d actually be happy to do little things for her.
