    all tekken 8 strings need a general tracking nerf on 2nd and 3rd hits. its pretty dumb. the devs have only done this to specific strings like on dragunov when it should be applied to most of them.

      I think you're underestimating how difficult it is to deal with these systems and their legacy codebase that has been built over years and years. Small changes might break a ton of other stuff. Knowledgeable team members might have moved on, etc. Just offering an explanation, not a justification

    This plus the character pushback bug that happens during some slow-motion KO moments before hit that forces whiffs for no freaking reason are the reasons why I can never take Tekken 8 seriously. Fancy package held together by Elmer's Glue.

    Sidestepping doesn't work sometimes because some strings have magic tracking. I've had similar situations and a lot of players being toxic add up to being able to enjoy the game

    the amount of stuff you cant sidestep now that you could in tekken 7 is crazy.
    in tekken 7 i would do techroll left into sidestep left against kazuya and it would avoid almost everything.
    in tekken 8 doing the same sequence i get clipped by hellsweep and even wr3, its so inexplicably stupid.

    Fr man...
    If those stuff that track almost 360° don't catch us side stepping, most of the times we won't be able to punish properly cause side stepping into the simplest 112 punish won't reach somehow. And somehow even the cameraman is drunk so frequently that we mess up the punish for P2 or P1 side lol 😂
    It's so baffling and frustrating. On top of still trying to back dash and get away from the opponent only to still get hit WHILE DOING NOTHING ELSE BUT ONLY HOLDING BACK!
    At least we got infinite games on quick matches. Better something than nothing, uh I guess

    The most frustrating part is that doing Yoshi's D2,2,2 Tornado after specifically a wall blast can mess up completely so the first 2 hits connects, but the third makes you fly through the opponent completely.
    happened to me so many times, and that's from like a regular wall splat into blast combo.

    I recently replayed T6 with my buddies and i was blown away by how good and accurate the hitboxes where and the animations. How did the mess up with tracking and phantom ranges?

      T7 and T8 they shifted to unreal , stage interactions like snow,water + costumes and character models were also unique and better before if you noticed

    Not to mention these are things that happen every match if not every round, and there are people defending them: 'you extended your hurtbox to the size of the entire stage/you needed to sidewalk right, who cares if the move didn't even touched you/it's fair cause this character doesn't usually track' or the opposite if the bug is against you 'it's deserved cause I don't like your character'.
    How about fixing things instead of making excuses or justifying them.

    You know what...I'm starting to wonder if so many of these tracking issues are actually due to the camera not knowing which way to turn? Like in so many of these instances there's an interaction that causes the camera to jitter/sway as if it wants switch your character to P2. In some moments you do get swapped to P2 and your whiff punish misses. In other instances you dont get swapped and get clipped by a move that you clearly stepped.
    I really think this shit is because of the camera, on top of stupid tracking properties. I hope someone tests this shit.

    this happens because after sidestepping, you press the button you want to punish wish too soon. The moment you press a button and the animation starts your hitboxes but also your hurtboxes shift which makes it very easy to get clipped by moves. 99% sure that this will happen less the moment you wait half a second longer to press a button :3

      Another major component to this is 2nd hit of strings have larger hitboxes to make them more consistent on hit
      Ex 00:57 1st and 3rd whiffed but 2nd connected without the character pressing or moving
      Azucena df1 string on launch also had this problem, it used to counter hit players behind her.

    As I know this was something from earlier Tekken 7 but was patched for better Tracking or Alignment cause it highly impacted certain characters. It had been there on launch of Tekken 8 so it's either they want it this way or they forgot to include the patch.

    I'm not joking this just happened to me a few hours ago. I was side walking against Lily. The first attack wiffed so hard that she was attacking in the wrong directions. i was almost behind her at that point but she continued the string and the 2nd hit me.

    Getting hit by moves after sidewalking and you being behind them is due to pushing a button to early and then expanding your hurtbox that makes you get hit (Well some moves just have stupid tracking tho, like Kings mid screw dive kick , it hits you even tho you are 3feet behind him XD) It looks really wonky and tbh something i hope they change. The constant sidewalling in the open due to minor misalignment is soooo annoying against certain characters aswell.. Tekken 8 still needs some work, it is solid in some regards, but alot of wonk here and there. Not to mention some characters are overly done(No weaknesses), certainly hope Season2 brings some much needed balance work etc

    For when you get hit by follow-ups after you step, usually it's because you pressed. I couldn't explain you how it works in detail, but basically pressing makes you vulnerable to moves that should track that much. If you control the replay of theses moments and you do the same thing without pressing, i'm pretty sure none of that would hit.
    Tho everything whiffing after stepping a move, yea that's just bullshit lol, and it does happen a lot.

    180° tracking, and then players will tell ya that you need to visually confirm the whiff and wait out the strings before you press a button to punish, when this 180° tracking shouldn't even be a thing in the first place. 🤣 This is why I literally don't sidewalk or do bigger steps, just do micro steps into block or duck, you will still step linear moves but you will block/duck the moves you need to, no matter if they buffed the stepping if the tracking on the remained the same, you still have to play T7 basically.

      Unless I make a hard read, for let's say Bryan's HS(Close range ONLY!!!! Do NOT sidewalk Bryan if you are 10 kilometers away from him), I sidewalk it easily. But during the match I usually don't sidewalk, I wait for a small whiff or an unsafe move and punish that.

    Lol, t8 has better tracking then t7 it seems(from what i witnessed) but it has added some weird momentum(or more?) to moves on whiff 🤔 that was previously not there(E.g bry d+2) note- opponent has to be in tracking range for "momentum" effects

    Like how can anyone look at the clip from 2:50 and say that sidestepping isnt broken in this game? This is clear as day to me a combination of moves having TOO MUCH tracking and the CAMERA system, particularly AT THE WALL, not knowing wtf its doing.
    Look at Bryan. First the F3 tracks way more than it should, probably BECAUSE they are at the wall. The Lee trying to step makes the camera swing INTO the wall. This turns the Bryan causing the F3 to track more. At the end the Bryan is backturned. WHY?
    Because the fucking game logic is saying that Bryan should still be on P2 side, but the tracking/camera swung him to P1 side. This game is FUCKING BROKEN YALL. Waiting for that PHiDx video showing why Sidestepping is great in this game. What a joke.

    I can describe at least some of these.
    Strings often track at least a little, especially between hits. This makes some sense because you wouldn’t want a string to fail on hit because the opponent was 2 degrees off axis at the start of the string. It can get silly though for ones that track super well and are like a heat seeking missile.
    The second clip was a face to wall situation and those are just always mega jank. Probably to avoid weird wall infinites or traps, the defender kinda bounces off and moves to the side.
    For some of these it’s a result of how Tekken handles hitboxes. I’m 99% sure the game doesn’t care which part of your body was hit, just that it was hit at all. So an uppercut to the tip of an outstretched hand will launch just as well as an uppercut to the chin. You see this sometimes when testing move ranges vs Heihachi who keeps a hand out in his idle stance, vs Claudio who keeps his hands by his side in his idle stance.
    Some of this is trying to hit a moving target. However the game detects the opponents position, at some point during the startup of a move the game stops turning you to face your opponent and you start doing the move in the direction you’re pointing. If the opponent keeps moving (either from sidestepping or because they’re moving forward from whiffing some move they’re doing) they’re off the line of attack. In the fourth clip Law is sailing past with a flying kick which probably moves way faster than a sidestep could, and Claudio whiffs the hopkick (especially because hopkicks don’t track to the left and Law was moving left at the time).

      Tldr Tekken uses 2D hitboxes it's why they have bigger hitboxes than one would expect. It's not like Mortal Kombat where hitboxes/hurtboxes are tied to the actual 3D model

      @ Yeah I remember seeing some utility for Tekken 7 that showed attack hitboxes are actually just lines, while character hurtboxes are a bunch of cylinders. I assume it hasn’t changed between T7 and T8.

    They need to fix it because in the other game.The track and over there was wasn't so bad.He was able to step certain moves and no one a move is about to hit you.When you try to stop it, you know?The tracking on it this game here.They say you can stop certain moves.But the tracking on this game is insane and you will still get hit.That is not good

    I like tekken 8, but yeah they gotta fix all this. I might be wrong but the way I see it, there are 2 problems:
    - the body have unnecessary active hitboxes when using some moves that catches 0 range like homing
    - the inconsistent realligning of the character, where moves just sometime tracks and sometime doesnt, and sometime fails to immediately face or follow the opponent straight after sidesteps. Its all janky
    Hope future seasons fix these problems.
