I got the TRX-1 about a month ago and love it!! Picks up everything I need and more. My town and surrounding towns went digital and the old Uniden BC95xlt wasn't picking anything up. Still learning what the TRX-1 can do, its like learning a new language! Zip code 02190
I bought the SDS100 and the TRX-1 to compare. My old Uniden BC355N picked up more signals than both of them. Mostly analog in my area. I kept the TRX-1 because it was already capable of getting DMR and NXDN, which a couple of companies near me, use. Also, the TRX-1 was $400 on Walmart.com. So for $250 less than the SDS100 (not including the DMR/NXDN upgrade fees), it was a no brainer. Although the SDS100 screen is beautiful. For batteries, I went with the Panasonic Eneloop.
Yeah the SDS screen does look like one of those cheap no name standalone SDRs sold from junk sellers in china for $100. Uniden is a lazy MTX scanner now.
Sir I have the Uniden SDS100 and Uniden SDS200 and I never paid for a Update so I'm not sure were you are getting your Info now there is a one time fee for DMR,NXDN,Motortrbo
Yes every time there is an update they charge you for it like you said for the DMR and the nxdn update there is a fee to pay to get that update it is the same as any other update that you get and that is just for the uniden scanners and the whistler scanners are free updates.

The SDS100 screen is junk. It's like a lazy high school coding product on one of those cheap chinese standalone SDRs you get for $75.

Just go on eBay simply and buy a new battery holder they're almost next to nothing in price
