Lol when i got the game some kid left a sheet of cheats so my memories of this game strangely never included difficulty but going back yeah some levels i can imagine being a headache
Here's a mechanic in this game I bet you didn't know about (and why would you, it never hints at it) Trees do MASSIVE damage. Cut down a tree and somehow have it land on a enemy and it will more then likely kill them in one hit. It's how I think you are meant to take out the final boss, there are a lot of trees in that fight.
Never knew about the trees. My method was aim for Bruckner since he was riding the thing and the munitions on its back might be hazardous. Don't know if there's really a hitbox there though.
I hope Night Dive studios will eventually remaster Turok Evolution. (Since they´ve already remastered Turok 1 and 2.) This is for the most part a pretty good game but it´s very rough around the edges.
@@nicoleardaya7704 Seems to me i remember there was some cut content from the final version that Night Dive could put back in. Would be great to play this on Switch, though they have to do Turok 3 first.
Mace 2.0 I'm pretty sure I did mention the soundtrack. Despite, it was mostly generic with a few average at best. Replying to you now, I had to really think to remember any of the tracks, and even still I can only remember one or two. Samples are very lossy, really only two tempos to choose from (range between 2bps and 10bps). I find objectively, the music was not a strong point - in fact, I would go as far as to say it was bad.
Nelson Everhart is a fantastic musician. You can find more of his newer work online by simply searching his name. As a kid I actually enjoyed the OST so much I found a rip online and for years till even today still have it on all my music playing devices. Extremely memorable in my opinion. That main theme on the title screen; gives me goosebumps! From foreboding brass horns to intense firefight battle drums. It's a very ingenious and primal sound format. Had a very tribal feel, yet went along nicely with the sci-fi atheistics and summoned the energies of Native American roots very well. With a twist of modernization. That's why I enjoyed it so much. I feel it captured the setting of the Lost Land perfectly. Throw some headphones on and give it another listen. Sad to hear you say you would go as far as calling it objectively bad.
Great video! This was one of my favorite games growing up. It’s funny how much you’re willing to forgive in games when you’re a kid. I played this when I was 9 and I have nothing but fond memories of it. My brother and I always played with cheats of course, it was way too hard (and as I’ve discovered from this video, too broken) for us 9 year olds to beat it without them. I remember nothing but the good parts. I think if my brother and I weren’t having fun in a level, we just skipped it or popped god mode on without a second thought. We didn’t weigh the pros and cons, we just enjoyed the pros and completely ignored the cons. Thanks for making this video! It was a real trip down memory lane, and got me to examine how my philosophy on how I play games has changed since I was a kid.
I can't deny, I have similar memories. A lot of people say; the only way to play Turok... is with cheat codes! I don't know if I agree with that, but for this game? Certainly.
My parents bought me this game for valentines day 2003, it was very special because I just had one year of knowing who my dad was back then since my parents had originally divorced when I was a newborn, they also bought me my gamecube on christmas 2002 so I was just getting into videogames when I got Turok Evolution, I was 8 years old and it took me a couple of months to finish the game but I absolutely loved it, I have great memories of playing through it with my dad, it became one of our favorite games, we played from dusk till dawn once literally, we loved it's difficulty, most of the things you complained about in this video where actually pluses for me, as an 8-9 YO beating this game. I never thought of them as mistakes, just upping the stakes. I did find it odd there wasn't more to the story, but never thought we deserved a longer explanation, games still weren't as cinematic as today. I did have difficulties figuring out how to kill bruckner back then, I had to research an online walkthrough to figure out you had to make a tree fall on top of him to kill him. I really think this was one of the best games I've played so far and that it's too sad it got such a bad rap.
This was a really great review. You pointed out every flaw and good element.I loved this game a lot as a kid, but looking back at it as an adult i can definitely see its problems. My main complaint with this game ( As you said) is the lack of dinosaurs. It was mostly slegtroops,Which who are fun to kill but can get really annoying at times. Being a huge dinosaur fan myself this was a major dissapointment to me.
And once again, the multiplayer was Ignored. Still, I think this is a pretty good review, much better than most of the other reviews for this game, But if you ask me, I'd say get the game, if it's under 10$. And if you have 4 friends then get together and have a bloodbath on the multiplayer. Also Chapter 5, 6, and 13 can bite my ass.
As a Turok 1, 2 and 3 fan on the N64, i enjoyed Turok: Evolution back in the day, to a point-- the huge difficulty spikes led to me giving up on the game about 2/3 of the way through. Now, having just had my GameCube modded for HDMI, i'm giving it another go, but i'm having the same issues-- going along enjoying the setting and gameplay, only to hit that difficulty wall and take a break due to frustration. But i'm determined this time, so we'll see if i make it. Excellent video-- i really enjoy your reviews. Hope you get to the N64 Turoks, as they're much better games (and be sure to get that N64 HDMI mod befor you do-- it really is quite stunning).
I’m good with shooters online offline what makes this classic so hard I see lots of ppl saying it’s to hard I’ve never played and thinking about it. Could you explain to a noob to this game.
I still love it, although the rose colored glasses don't help when looking through a critical lense. Still think the game is good for the era it came out it, granted it ain't nearly the best game. But I'm still glad you gave it a chance even though you didn't like it. Cheers.
This was a horrible game for the era it came out. Turok was my favorite FPS, and I had high hopes for this game; I even got it the first day it came out. I was extremely disappointed. Horrible graphics, horrible compressed sound. And levels sucked. I didn't like the flying sections, either.
The multiplayer was great. There was one map where you walk around bridges and treehouses above a small field. If you fall down into this field, multiple raptors come out of nowhere and will kill you very quickly if you don't find a ladder in time.
Ugh I can't believe I used to think the city assault level was impressive when I was kid. Also remember telling myself this game would get better once I reached the cool, dense jungle level I saw in beta screenshots. Never happened.
@@theaceofspades56 nigga i played this game as a goddamn toddler and i completed the entire game without dying exept the flying missions, jesus one of the best turok game and you just hate for bullshit reasons
I remember being so excited about this game. That was short lived. Most of my memories are of annoyances. The room with the transporters you have to destroy. Thanks gamefaqs. Or the difficulty of that Sleg bunker. The styracosaurus boss was exciting and getting the Nuke after beating him was too. Especially since it was in the trailer. But then on the next level the nukes gone and never returns. I think the way weapons disappeared annoyed me the most.
bro nooo, all the songs had some variety, my favorites being Airborne and the main theme. They had moments that were so phenomenal they were as good as some marvel movies. you can read comments of the re-uploaded songs, its generally loved
Great review! Nobody really talks about Evolution, like ever. Love-hate relationship with game , put an absurd amount of hours in this when I was younger, w/ the cheats on of course. It was the goriest game I had ever played at the time. It still stand out as particularly violent. As I remember the poison arrows, cerebral bore and ubiquitous torture quite well. It's been one of those titles I always think about revisiting but just know it would be a slog and shatter these rose tinted glasses of mine. Subbed.
God. The platforming in this game. So many jumps are big and impossible, others need you to walk around small slopes above massive chasms getting shot at, you'll have to climb on a ladder sometimes but it's kind of slippery so if you try to get off too fast you'll fly off of it at 100 mph and fall 200 feet to your death... Can't cheat either. The invinciblity cheat doesn't prevent explosion or fall damage, and I guarantee those are the things that will kill you the most in this game. Also, that sewer segment where you get pushed off of the tiny ass catwalk by literal shit-waterfalls was deliberate sadism from the game designers.
damn would you recommend playing it again ? I replayed Turok 2, as a kid the game was the bomb but now i must admit the level design is sometimes atrocious. But there was cartridge size limitation, the game was only 32mb big.
7:30 Thats definitely a bug. I remember that mission, the spawners were easy to destroy, not as picky as they are here, you didnt have to destroy them, you could either kill all the enemies once the spawns run out or break the spawner, and the doors are supposed to be closed until you do clear the room. Odd bug. 🤔 Also I still remember the FMNFB cheat code to give you all cheats and unlock all levels. That cheat code meant the world to me at age 8. Haha.
You know what? I like your videos, something I can get behind. Great game reviews that aren't biased and mostly share opinions with, and other serious sam related content, a fellow "serious fan" if you will. You, me boi, earned a sub
I still have this game on my GameCube from back in the day! I personally enjoyed this game a lot as a pre-teen/teen when is came out back in the day, and even today! I remember getting so good at it and never having to worry about dying through any level! It wasn't the best game like the ones on the N64 but for me it was still fun, and enjoyable! I wish they would go back and make a true sequel to to Turok 3, but probably will never happen! However, good times and memories with Turok Evolution on the GameCube!
My first Turok game. I still have it. Maybe I should try it again. I remember just not being able to advance. The fact of some levels being a blast wile others were "meh" is definitely accurate. BUT....i should play it again, I might feel different.
Yeah, FrameRater! You have quickly become a favorite youtuber after discovering you recently. Fantastic content here. Ive watched this video alone three or four times. Top notch narration and edit. I'm looking forward to watching more of your back catalog. What drew me in was the Sam Content. I watched my buddy play the Xbox port of Sam Classic as a kid and thought it looked cool. A couple years ago I finally played through TFE and TSE coop, but its all a blur of kleer and tears. Lol I'd been waiting to tackle BFE with that same dude, but I guess he wasn't serious enough. Which brings us to a week or so ago. Sam 4 was leaving GamePass on the 15th of this month, and I'd been wanting to check it out. But not before BFE. So I challenged myself to play both before Sam 4 was gone. It was one of the most brutal but rewarding gaming experiences I've ever had marathonning both games on hard. For a week, I was eating and breathing Sam. When I was near the breaking point, I'd cool off with your feature videos. I learned a lot in general, but I really respect Croteam - now and then. This is already a rant, so I'll just say BFE was a blast and Sam 4 is one of my favorite shooters ever, warts and all. Of course, I had to play the two encounters next..lol that luxor map was a next level solid. I finished TFE this morning. I pulled off that grenade rocket jump lickety split and had to come give kudos. To quote a great man, "We will be watching your progress with great interest!"
This was unfortunately my first Turok game (used to have the PS2 version of this game), thankfully I got the chance to play the far superior Turok 1 & 2, the new remastered versions on Xbox One. I'm probably one of the few people that actually beat Turok Evolution without using cheats despite how frustrating & cheap it is.
It seems that about two hours of dialogue that fleshed out the story was discovered on a prototype of the game for the Xbox. It explains what's going on far better.
This was my first Turok game, and even after playing the others, it still stands out the most for several reasons. 1: The Slegs were really cool. an army of reptilian men with armor and guns. the reptile men in the other games were just savage humanoid dinosaurs with guns strapped onto them. The Slegs were intelligent and had their own style. building massive war machines to destroy entire cities and their monks had access to ancient magic. these were by far the most unique enemies of the Turok franchise so far. 2: Really good music. I have the entire soundtrack on my playlist. I don't think there is one song I don't like. 3: There isn't much world building, but there is enough to get my interested. Turok is actually the mantle of a legendary warrior, like the Dragon Warrior from Kung Fu Panda, or the Arbiter from Halo. an icon of hope and strength to defeat great evil and restore the land to a time of peace. the Village Elder was once a warrior, but he was not a candidate to be Turok regardless of how great he was. much like Tai-Lung, who was also denied becoming the Dragon Warrior. the Lost Land has a history of legendary warriors stretching back centuries, but only a few managed to ever inherit the mantle of Turok. this makes me interested in what great battles were waged before the game began and who the previous Turoks were. you even get a few hints of the Lost Land's history with the ancient temples filled with living stone statues. This game was clearly building up something and had much more story to tell than what we got. this is why Evolution still stands out to me amongst all other Turoks. it does not deserve the hate it got. if I were given the chance to reboot a Turok game, I'd obviously go for Evolution. I want to see more out of this game. but that's just my opinion.
I think the slegs might have been inspired by warhammer 40k orks but with more of a reptilian look. At least I get those vibes when looking at concept art for turok evolution.
@@chocolates182 Ork look with an Imperium way of thinking. They kept going on about their 'Holy Cause' and how they were purifying the world of the taint that was humanity. Honestly, I think the war happened because Lord Tyrannus feared a new Turok, just like Frieza and Firelord Sozen who were also on conquests but knew a warrior would rise up to defeat them one day. since all Turoks in history have been human, there can't be another Turok if all humans are extinct. but Tyrannus did not take into account the other worlds that are connected to The Lost Land, and so a new Turok rose up anyway. But that's just a theory.
The turok games hold a special place for me. My dad and I played Turok together and I remember getting the guide for it and playing through the missions together.
Am I the only person that was not clueless by the sonic 3 barrel? I'm dumb in video games but figured it out in 90 seconds or less. Anyway great review.
It's kinda ironic that they tried to connect the games all the way back to the oldest of the comic book originals (which were from the 1950s), but then didn't do jack shit to actually introduce those original comics to the audience.
If you're gonna play Turok 1 & 2, play the modern PC ports for sure... the quality of life improvements are alone a reason to play them, but there's also loads of graphics options to make them stand above not only the original PC releases, but the console releases as well. :)
God, I love this game. This was my childhood. The first game I ever got for the PS2. Sure, it wasn't perfect, but I still love it to pieces. I'd definitely play it again when given the chance
Not sure if anyone mentioned but in the last chapter, you're supposed to shoot the balloons -above- the ammo crates. Yeah... Sucks the game doesn't tell you any of this before hand.
For me, this game really shined once you entered the levels where you actually had other humans fighting along with you. It was fun to be in the battles. Watching as the humans treat you as the hero to save them. Fighting through the Jungle then into the city, just to in the end, destroy it killing everyone you were fighting beside a couple of moments ago. That part was great, but I understand why not everyone liked it.
I remember playing the multiplayer of this game with my brother on my ps2 (which I still have). But I never played the campaign as a kid because of strict parents.
Idk if it makes a difference, but I played this on the Xbox and it wasn't that hard; most of the weapons are really strong, capable of 1-shotting or infinitely stunlocking most enemies. The only harder enemies were the dinosaur/animal ones, since they couldn't be staggered, and there aren't many of those. Flamethrower guys don't blow up if you don't shoot the tank on their back. Also, that first example of an ambient explosion was your turret; those turrets explode when destroyed, and enemies can destroy them. I recall that the ambient explosions in the pterosaur levels didn't do any damage, so that might be a difference between platforms. For the final boss, you're supposed to shoot the balloons holding the crates; that makes the crates fall and spawn ammo. Also, you can shoot down the extra-durable trees to knock them down on the boss; 3 or 4 trees will kill him.
Rewatching this for a second time cuz I forgot u made a video on this. This game and serious sam were my favourite games of my childhood. I find it EXTREMELY funny how you brought up that section that you gave up on as a child, because that's exactly the same section I gave up on when I was younger too. Was the most frustrating thing in the world, couldn't figure it out for the life of me. Now you've given me Vietnam flashbacks 😅 I really want to play this game again, how did u manage to get your hands on it?
I don't think this game was terrible. It was alright and definitely deserved for its sequel to actually come out and finish the story. With perhaps a tease of Oblivion.
Well, everyone has opinions. I believe that Evolution was a step backwards for the series. Open world styled exploration replaced with chapters, multiplayer was scaled back, not too many game modes were available, bugs are present...game was made after Rage Wars and Turok 3, it's just disappointing. I did have fun playing it though. :)
When did I ever say the N64 games were going to be weird _because_ of Evolution? In addition, I don't get why you say "gameplay is more important than story" when there's a story segment at the beginning of all my videos. I talk far, far more about the gameplay later on. Like, did you even watch the whole thing? Critiques are fine man, but they're invalid if you didn't watch the whole thing.
I did watch the whole thing. Sorry, I'm new to the channel. You had a bad feeling about playing the N64 games at the end of the video. I felt regret from making my comment. Sorry about that. I edited it into something else.
FrameRater nope no cheats. The only part of the game I needed help with was the jumps I couldn’t make at certain points in the game, which my dad did. Apart from that, all me.
Wow. If I had kid back then and called it Turok, his/her name would be Turok Stein. Stein is german for stone. So the kid would be "Der Sohn von Stein." or "The sone of Stone." Fits very well.
Ordered the GameCube version off of amazon, supposed to have it some time next week or after. I'm fucking excited I loved this game when I was young, looking at it now it does have a lot of flaws but I'm sure I'll still enjoy it, plus I cheated when I was young and just beaten the game with cheats lol didn't play all of the chapters. I cannot wait, I hope the game has the same feel it did all those years ago.
I still can't believe i beat this game as a kid, especially in the later flying missions. I barely played video games, so I wasn't very good at any of them to begin with lol
You really shouldn't let this game sour your taste of the Turok franchise. They have remasters of the first two games out now by Night Dive Studios and they are phenomenal! Highly recommend them.
For me, that small bit of forest flying _(in the first flight section where you have to do one hell of a turn with barely any reaction time)_, and the ancient jungle were the worst experiences I had on Evolution. Now I straight miss playing this game and those frustrating parts.
The N64 version is by far my favorite FPS from my childhood, I hope someone buy the games license and reboot it like Doom and Wolfenstein. It doesn't need great graphics or even a story, just old school FPS shooting mechanics, I don't want another 2008 turok
Am I the only one who thinks that maybe Id software should get the rights to Turok and give us a reboot of the series that's as good as DOOM 2016? Not a remaster, a reboot in the style of DOOM.
The problem with the shotgun you mentioned is simple. It's broken and does almost no damage and it's reload time is absurd between shots. You can shoot enemies at point blank range and they'll just ask for another.
It’s a bit bittersweet when people remember Turok Evolution fondly due to nostalgia, while this game basically, singlehandedly, put the series into the ground.
FrameRater There’s a lot of small elements the game uses from previous entries that, ironically, those older games did much better. (1 and 2 anyway) Most people defending it seem to have played it as a kid, so they had no idea what makes a good or bad game at that age. As a kid every new game that catches your eye - be it because of screenshots or the coverart they saw - is sacred.
I agree for the most point. Some glitches are improved o different consoles however, I do love the music. If you listen to it separately from the game on it's own. It sounds very well done like a movie score.
I found the game to be a blast, I loved the early levels where you could make the sleg fight the Dinosaurs, I loved the close quarters scenarios where the sleg would shoot each other like idiots XD I loved the challenge the jungle traps gave me, not to mention by then, the raptors could pounce, making them EXTREMELY hard to deal with. I really liked the final boss, it scared the heck out of me, the entirety of the game, I knew the cowboy was going to be the big baddie, but then he comes waltzing in on a *SPOILER ALERT* FULLY WEAPONIZED T-REX, sadly I never found a way to kill Tyrannus, I don't think you can, but hey, he doesn't have an army anymore so...XD sucks to be him.
I loved this game as a kid, though I never managed to go past level 3 on my own. I managed to play it on Dolphin for some time also and I had mad fun as a grown up too, then during level 8 it stopped working for some reason and sadly I'm yet to finish it.
Iguana Entertainment were forced to crunch devolvement with many elements thrown out due to deadlines. The crunch release date was forced on them and they were barely able to get this final version of the game out on time. the game was supposed to be a huge masterpiece of the FPS genre, and the team never got to realize their original vision. what a shame. i wish that Nightdive would consider remaking this game and fixing the problems
I bought those yesterday. Also I'm not confirming a review of those games but I'd say it's pretty likely to happen at some point or another. It'll probably be like, a year before that happens though at least.
yeah sadly i watched your statement at the end, im sorry the not-so-good prequel/reboot games tarnished your views about the series, ill still wait for your reviews of the original games whenever those come out, your detailed analysis of any game are simply incredible and im always eager for more. here's hoping the remasters win both your interest and respect to the series :D
FrameRater I downloaded rogue squadron from Good old games. Each level takes less than 10 minutes and there’s only 16 levels. It was my favorite game when i was little. Consider reviewing *Rogue Squadron 3D?*
wait ?...it had a story?... still i love this game beat the game with cheatcodes "emerpus" and "texas" my favorite weapon was the poison arrow and just watch them vomit their guts out
I loved the game, tho the 13th chapter I enjoyed a lot. So I have a few things to offer. There are really bad chapters and levels and designs in this game. Mostly they can be summed up on unfinished works and rushed designs. Had the developers have more time, sections like the sniper ones could've be really good, or that one of the Sleg fortress. A lot of wasted potential, since you're doing basically a siege. The camps we invaded in chapter 4 could be used by some of our allied troops to assist us in the invasion, but instead we have to do that segment completely alone? Not to mention random explosions. The flying levels in my opinion were the best sections of the game. Fast-passed, non-stop and quick thinking strategies were your way out. What you said in the video about the hitboxes, however, is absolutely true, and another sign of rushed design, in my opinion. And also, sensitivity. I played that on the PlayStation 2 (yeah I still have it shut up I'm poor) and I really enjoyed only after messing with said sensitivity. Now on to the enemies. Too much slegs, too little dinos. If only they implemented more animals in the game, for example, some cage holding lots of dinos suddenly broke apart and they started to kill everyone. Or, idk, some pterodactyls or ships controlled by slegs flying over our heads and trying to shoot us on ground, much like we do in some levels on chapter 14. Definitely the worst part was lack of diversity. In a city like the one in chapter 8, or a fortress in chapter 5, most of the soldiers would NOT be using pistols, but instead more sophisticated weapons. But the difficulty, in my opinion, is a positive. What kept me going back to it, even after playing it through my childhood, was the fact that you could die really quickly. The game made me choose to evade taking damage, and seeking cover immediately, which is a little realistic if you think about it. Grenades are deadly, shotguns are scary, miniguns are annoying and rocket launchers are mortal. Whenever one of those guys appear, I immediately run back and they become the main focus (the auto aim helped on the PlayStation, and on the PC i turned it off because I had more control). If there was no cover, I tried to position myself in a way that they would shoot each other. I could keep on shooting them while they also did. The flamethrower guys in chapter 13, in my opinion, were neutral. I disliked facing them, but only because I dont like being suddenly put to pressure without preparing myself. But this is something we can adapt really fast and carefully inspect the room before going in, or maybe throw a grenade and hope someone blows up. The final boss is the worst disappointment. If you figure out one strategy about it, it becomes painfully easy to kill him. Really bad implemented fight. The levels designs were overall positive for me. With the city snipers My overall experience with this game is good. The city snipers made sense to be hidden, since they don't want to be found, right? and our allied knew nothing about the navigation of the buildings, so they could not know where to look for. Its really annoying that they are hidden, and this is also realistic. But you know: to shoot you, they must be visible. So in the streets, they could show up for a brief moment and shoot us. This would prevent us from getting shots while revealing their position. After that, it would be only a matter of entering the building and finding them. I overall liked the game. I wish it was remade and improved upon. A lot of wasted potential. 7/10 would play again.
If you were a kid and played without cheats much respect. Also that level six area was the bane of my existence.... there’s a part where you have to activate a puzzle and then sprint through a gap that would close and I could never do it when I was younger.
I remember beating the final boss by cheesing it- theres like a downed ship or something I could hide in and he was just visible through the gap...
Never knew about the trees. My method was aim for Bruckner since he was riding the thing and the munitions on its back might be hazardous. Don't know if there's really a hitbox there though.

Dude Turok 3 is fucking awesome!!
It might be my in my top 10 video games of all time.
Anyone else remember the Tobias Buckner award EGM used to give out.
Abel Mantor always been a problem for the series actually it's nothing new.
Hope you get to the N64 Turoks, as they're much better games (and be sure to get that N64 HDMI mod befor you do-- it really is quite stunning).
kdkseven let me know how this went
Gotta git gud
Did you beat it?
What do you mean by mod?
I’m good with shooters online offline what makes this classic so hard I see lots of ppl saying it’s to hard I’ve never played and thinking about it. Could you explain to a noob to this game.
It was no Turok 2. That game was amazing.
Rip the part where the enemy got his head axed in the intro.
Still better than Turok 2.
Western Esper the city levels were amazing, hard doesn’t mean bad ur just trash
@@Oswadomob When did I ever say it was hard? Bad level design is bad. Learn to read next time, trash.
Haha.
Wasn't a terrible game, but a bad follow up to the older Turok games. Too bad the franchise appears completely dead now.
Would love to have a remastered version of this game.
This game was my childhood, best game ever
Rmember the mode where you were in a giant zoo?
Dude, Yeah!
My first Turok game. I still have it.
Maybe I should try it again. I remember just not being able to advance. The fact of some levels being a blast wile others were "meh" is definitely accurate.
BUT....i should play it again, I might feel different.
This was my first ps2 game and is still my favorite ps2 game it's awesome, gory and a pain in the ass to beat I love it!
16:28 sounds like he's suffocating poultry 😂😂😂
Ah, This game was my childhood. My first Turok game, Didn't understand a thing until now.
It seems that about two hours of dialogue that fleshed out the story was discovered on a prototype of the game for the Xbox. It explains what's going on far better.
Oooh! Sounds interesting.
Dude I LOVED the pterodactyl levels.
The theme song for this game has never left my mind. This was my introduction to Turok, we had so much fun in multiplayer.
The turok games hold a special place for me. My dad and I played Turok together and I remember getting the guide for it and playing through the missions together.
Aye! Me and my dad also played through 1 and 2 together
Am I the only person that was not clueless by the sonic 3 barrel? I'm dumb in video games but figured it out in 90 seconds or less.
Anyway great review.
Whats wrong with the Xbox version? i would assume it would look and control better than the Gamecube version.
Odd stuttering. The graphics and controls are better though.
This brings me back to 2003, sitting in my dark room and listening to the EDM stations on the radio. Talk about going down memory lane.
Wow, i loved this game as a kid, afraid to go back and relive it lol.
It's kinda ironic that they tried to connect the games all the way back to the oldest of the comic book originals (which were from the 1950s), but then didn't do jack shit to actually introduce those original comics to the audience.
i didnt notice the bright white light till you mentioned it. now i cant unsee it
If you're gonna play Turok 1 & 2, play the modern PC ports for sure... the quality of life improvements are alone a reason to play them, but there's also loads of graphics options to make them stand above not only the original PC releases, but the console releases as well. :)
I remember being so, so excited when this game was announced. Then I bought it... :(
I still hate those flying sections. To me they were just a waste of time and weren't fun at all haha
But I never played the campaign as a kid because of strict parents.
turok evolution is a gem and will always be one of the best turok games
my brother and i owned this on gamecube, we played it so much we damn near wore the disk out lol, good times.
Dude the game is a good game like c'mon
It is.
But if would have been a great game if it had a few extra weeks of development time.
I remember fighting Bruckner on his t Rex, I thought he was the final boss. It's been forever.
No bs, I beat this game when I was 7-8years old, so anyone complaining about it being too difficult clearly just isn’t very good at games
That was a long time ago, and you're certain you hadn't been using cheats? That's how most people played it back when.
FrameRater nope no cheats. The only part of the game I needed help with was the jumps I couldn’t make at certain points in the game, which my dad did. Apart from that, all me.
I still love this game
You can kill the final boss by dropping a tree on it
I used to hide in the wreck of some dropship as a kid, which had infinite spawning minigun ammo.
Wow. If I had kid back then and called it Turok, his/her name would be Turok Stein. Stein is german for stone. So the kid would be "Der Sohn von Stein." or "The sone of Stone." Fits very well.
8:05 This is where I stopped playing back in the day also.
THATS WHAT THAT WAS????? A FUCKING NUKE ATTACHMENT??? I GOTTA PLAY THIS AGAIN
Turok games and the comics ALWAYS went hand in hand. If one wanted more lore behind any Turok game one had to read some comics. :D
For me, that small bit of forest flying _(in the first flight section where you have to do one hell of a turn with barely any reaction time)_, and the ancient jungle were the worst experiences I had on Evolution. Now I straight miss playing this game and those frustrating parts.
Technically all the Turow games suffer from a heavy lack of dinosaurs and other extinct animals.
This game needs to be remastered for modern consoles
The only part in this game I ever found frustrating was the last flying mission.
For some reason to this day i still remember the unlock all cheats cheat fmnfb
The problem with the shotgun you mentioned is simple. It's broken and does almost no damage and it's reload time is absurd between shots. You can shoot enemies at point blank range and they'll just ask for another.
It’s a bit bittersweet when people remember Turok Evolution fondly due to nostalgia, while this game basically, singlehandedly, put the series into the ground.
You wouldn't believe the number of people trying to defend it in the comments.
FrameRater There’s a lot of small elements the game uses from previous entries that, ironically, those older games did much better. (1 and 2 anyway)
Most people defending it seem to have played it as a kid, so they had no idea what makes a good or bad game at that age. As a kid every new game that catches your eye - be it because of screenshots or the coverart they saw - is sacred.
@@DaXzOr Hell I was basically a kid when I first played this. Even back then while I did moderately enjoy it, I could tell something was off.
I really liked the final boss, it scared the heck out of me, the entirety of the game, I knew the cowboy was going to be the big baddie, but then he comes waltzing in on a *SPOILER ALERT* FULLY WEAPONIZED T-REX, sadly I never found a way to kill Tyrannus, I don't think you can, but hey, he doesn't have an army anymore so...XD sucks to be him.
what a shame, the artwork of the game is absolutely amazing
Ppl got tired of Turok. Count how many games were released before Evo. Which is sad... the devs actually rly tried to improve with every new game.
16:56 I feel like the lack of Dino’s is due to the take over
I loved this game as a kid, though I never managed to go past level 3 on my own. I managed to play it on Dolphin for some time also and I had mad fun as a grown up too, then during level 8 it stopped working for some reason and sadly I'm yet to finish it.
In my opinion turok has so much potential and great atmospehre
Iguana Entertainment were forced to crunch devolvement with many elements thrown out due to deadlines. The crunch release date was forced on them and they were barely able to get this final version of the game out on time. the game was supposed to be a huge masterpiece of the FPS genre, and the team never got to realize their original vision. what a shame. i wish that Nightdive would consider remaking this game and fixing the problems
In chapter six you become Turok: Monkey Hunter.
i really cant wait for the N64 reviews! you should totally take a look at the Remasters of 1 and 2 on Steam, they are fantastic.
I honestly just want this game to come to steam, it’s hilariously bad and soul crushing at times but I still want to play it
Great video bro. I at least recommend u play the 1st turok game on n64. It holds up pretty well
wait ?...it had a story?... still i love this game beat the game with cheatcodes "emerpus" and "texas" my favorite weapon was the poison arrow and just watch them vomit their guts out
I loved the game, tho the 13th chapter I enjoyed a lot.
With the city snipers
My overall experience with this game is good.
7:42 Nice
Man my nigga you tripping. This game was my childhood
If you were a kid and played without cheats much respect. Also that level six area was the bane of my existence.... there’s a part where you have to activate a puzzle and then sprint through a gap that would close and I could never do it when I was younger. I got it down after a while but god dam was it annoying. Hahaha oh shit he called it out. Fuck that shit was hard.
