  • This is my favourite chocolate cake recipe which I've been making for 10 years! It's super moist and chocolatey, and I also made this cake using 50% whole wheat flour and a ton of zucchini (to make up for the white chocolate cream cheese frosting!). It's also very easy to make, and it is a forgiving batter that is essentially foolproof, not to mention beautiful to serve once you frost it and sprinkle it with some pistachios!

    About Pai:
    Pailin “Pai” Chongchitnant is the author of the Hot Thai Kitchen cookbook, co-host of a Canadian TV series One World Kitchen on Gusto TV, and creator and host of the UA-cam channel Pailin's Kitchen.
    Pai was born and raised in southern Thailand where she spent much of her "playtime" in the kitchen. She traveled to Canada to study Nutritional Sciences at the University of British Columbia, and was later trained as a chef at Le Cordon Bleu culinary school in San Francisco.
    After working in both Western and Thai professional kitchens, she decided that her passion really lies in educating and empowering others to cook at home via UA-cam videos, her cookbook, and cooking classes.     FYI:
    If any of you don't have yogurt, sour cream works very well!!
    And if you don't want to use egg, use ground flax seed! I've done it several times and it's just as good and healthier for you! :)Thanks for the recipe, DE--LISH.

    For those who are curious about the nutritional value of this cake
    The whole cake is about 4000 calories (3,794 calories in myfitnesspal rounded up to the closest thousand)
    If the cake serves 8, that gives you 474 calories, about 500

    Hi, beautiful Pailin, thanks for your good vedio, I made it, and I like its texture, however, if we don't have your avocado oil, we may try half butter and half vegetable oil, it may improve the oil flavor, instead only using vegetable oil.

    Because im a college student trying out youtube Videos. I decided to use everything that i had once i saw this Video. I used Carrots instead of zucchini, Blue Berry Yogurt, Light brown sugar, and olive oil. Excited to see how it turns out.

    Hi Pai, do you press dry the zucchini after you grate them, cos they produce a lot of water after grate and i believe they would dilute the mixture further?

    Hi Pailin!!! This looks so good! I'm curious though, since I want to substitute out the whole wheat flour, is it possible to use cake flour for it instead? So that 50% all-purpose 50% cake flour? Or 100% all-purpose? Thank you :)

    Thanks Pailin, it turns out great. I made one for my bf for our two years anniversary. Also a small tip, wait the cake cool down before put frosting on. If the cake is warm, the frosting starts to melt. I have to put the cake back to refrigerator so it can become more solid. Thanks!

      Yes, it's very important to let the cake cool first, and cool completely. I talk about this @6:25 :)

    I made it, rather on the dense side but it is still OK. Can't find white chocolate bars (since it said not white chocolate chips which I have), so I omit white chocolate completely.

    Me and my mum aren't very good at making cakes since they turn out dense and not fluffy D: (I swear it might be genetic XD)
    The last cake I did was so dense that you swear that you're eating some sandwich bread crust D: I beat the batter since I want it well mixed. Maybe I'll get a fluffier cake if I mix the cake less :P

    Can we make in just 9' pan ? You said instead of chips you can add dry apricots so how much to put and do we need to chop ? And you said make sheet cake so you mean 9x13 size dish ? And if we don't like frosting a so this cake itself is yummy too ?

      They're all just guesses so...
      -I believe so but it will be obviously thinner
      -I believe you need to chop them to the size of the choco chips and probably the same amount
      -I'm not sure but try it
      -Try using chocolate ganache or melted chocolate as the frosting instead since I haven't tried the recipe yet.

      Hmm, apple would probably work, but you'll need to reduce the amount of sugar, maybe by 40%.

      You can use cacao powder but nutrients will be lost during the cooking time... so you're better off buying cocoa powder since the former's more expensive
