He is, without a doubt, one of the most brilliant lyricists/poets/writers of our time. People severely underestimate his writing ability, they only know him as "that Arctic Monkeys guy". I wish people would take the time to listen/read things like this, or even just his lyrics as they are (especially on the Favourite Worst Nightmare and Humbug albums). Absolutely brilliant.
this is *EXACTLY* what i think at all times. all times of the day, 24/7, about alex turner. i'm utterly fascinated by how his lyrical mind works - it's so unorthodox and deeply creative. i love him so so much
If you write as good as he does I almost expect a fair amount of stuttering. Will never understand why people are so surprised of it. He’s a a genius, that’s how they speak.
@@Matt-sk1rc i'm a bit late to answer oops, but obviously, at first glance it's a clever play on similarly spelled words (that people often get mixed up) but i think it just means that this girl looks beautiful, heavenly and 'angelic' from every angle he looks at her from, so no matter what window he sees her reflection in, she still looks beautiful. That's my take on it anyway :)
My ex girlfriend sent this to me in the early days of our relationship, she is a Monkeys fan. I must have heard it only twice or thrice, but now 5 years later and almost two years apart, I come back to re-listen to it. A lot has happened since and we live 10 thousand miles apart. I moved to another city and started over. I never realised till today it was where this train was heading, Brighton. Life has such twists and turns.
This piece of writing is so fascinating! I am studying advanced composition (or "smart writing") and I've never seen such brilliant work. I've been an Arctic Monkeys fan for quite a while and it delights me to know Alex is a gifted writer. The way he tells it is also so punctual and correctly paused. I'm not sure, but I'm glad that one of my current favorite singer is a writhing nerd.
I don't think this prose would have been as effective in eliciting emotion if it wasn't read by Alex. The way that it abruptly just ends... it leaves this hollow feeling in my chest. His imagery and how commonplace the story is ... it's so wonderful to listen to.
Alex should write books. He’s far more advanced than most writers today. To my estimation he’s indeed - the greatest writer of all time. He’s inspired by many but takes his craft to another level.
i had absolutely no idea this existed until I watched someone rating celebrity’s poetry and I’m so so happy I found out about this, it’s so beautifully written and if you think about it it’s such a simple situation but Alex uses the right words and can make anything seem beautiful. Will probably be listening to this repeatedly until I know it word by word lol
Jack Edwards is really awesome. I also found this from his video and I'm so glad. I've always loved his lyrical genius in his songs and listening to his poetry is one of the best things my ears could hear
theres only three voices i find comforting, soothing, the whole thing: my dad's when he reads to me, my crush's voice when he sings, and alex turner's voice. if i was sad and alex turner asked me what was wrong i think i never be sad ever again in my whole life.
absolutely brilliant how he can deliver a short piece on checking out a girl as if it were a mind-blowing deep emotional lyric for one of his songs. (btw, i loved the way he pronouced 'brighton'.)
@liizjonas It's about a man seeing a beautiful women on a train. The "choice of three" is whether he should look at her reflection in the left or right window, or look directly at her, because he's seated near her. Then he starts thinking about a time when he stole another mans seat to sit by a beautiful woman but he got moved (:
I have no idea what this is about but I fall to sleep with it every night. It makes me wonder, thinking about what it is really about, not to mention Alex's beautiful voice.
I aspire to be the kind of genius writer Alex is. The beautiful imagery and the complex yet simplistic writing style is just so amazing. One of the reasons he’s one of the greatest song writers ever🫶🏻
He should turn this (or at least parts of it) into a song. It will again be an amazing piece among the many Arctic Monkeys songs with the beautiful lyrics he's written that blows my mind. And I say this as someone who only speaks English as a second language, so a lot of the times I don't even manage to understand 100% of his lyrics. I've heard songs and read poems before of a guy fancying a girl on a train, but seriously, this one really trumps them all. Thank you LauraBug 123 for uploading this!
His voice is sooo....beautiful. So calm, yet sorta filled with emotion :) This is why Alex Turner is my role model for music, song writing, singing, and for being my true self. HIs voive is soo...honest
... Whoops. Didn't check the comments till now, and you're all right. I realized quite a while ago that it wasn't a random woman he met, aaaand I totally forgot about this video. Sorry about the incorrect explanation, guys!
Alex should definitely write a book. How is he so gifted, in music, in literature, amazing. Is this a poem? It seems more like prose, like a haibun prose. I wonder how much he reads usually.
I love how his writing romanticises the ordinary in the most subtle unpretentious ways possible. Such a great writer
This is such a perfect way of putting it. I adore him. As a writer myself, I always say the way to my heart is through a pen.
couldn't have put that in words better
Aptly said.
Life should be like his poems
Jack Edwards brought me here and I'm more than satisfied.
Real recognises real
Same lol
same
Lmao same
👌🏻
This is the longest I ever heard Alex actually talking. Please, Alex, tell me more.
This is the longest i've ever heard him talking without stuttering
@@snufkin2245 it’s becuase he’s not publicly speaking to others, this is just a flat out recording of him talking
him: "you're in my seat"
Alex: "don't sit down, cause I moved your chair"

You're so right, girl.. Specially Humbug..
What about soundtracks themes of Submarine? Alex is the best❤
What about SIAS, and TBH+C
yes he is sooo talented!
he has this beautiful ability to make these really long, intelligent sentences which make me question my IQ
I know right
Hes just talking very fast, which is weird
If you've seen his interviews he also had the ability to construct sentences that make me very sure of my place on the IQ distribution.
he makes me doubt if i even am fluent in english
This is the same man who has the hardest time answering questions during interviews? Wow! He sounds amazing!
exactly
If you write as good as he does I almost expect a fair amount of stuttering. Will never understand why people are so surprised of it. He’s a a genius, that’s how they speak.
Because the interviewers are not as engaging as the girl who was sleeping on the train
He should defiantly narrate an audiobook...I would buy that :)
+Lauren Waddington he should do a audiobook like submarine.
@@benstone3487 I love submarine! Honestly... I would listen to him narrate ANYTHING.
"unzipping, checking, zipping and rechecking things" this line were very beautiful
He is absolutely brilliant. People like him don't come around very often. Truly one of a kind. So happy he exists.
I love when he says "You're in my seat" and "That man was really rather pleasant, actually". The best moments!
Angel after angle... dang that’s beautifully written
Immediately reminded me of "there was no cracks to grasp or gaps to claw"
@@snufkin2245 that's one of my favourites! see also "dirtbag ballet by the bins down the alley"

Fuck man, Alex should write a book, or at leats compilation of short stories. I mean the way he puts this, it's brilliant.
he could write a book about acting up
"Before I remembered my plans to be asleep... deaf, french, or only sat there because someone was in MY seat.".... Just the best.
"Before I remembered my plans to pretend to be asleep, deaf, French, or only sat there because someone else was in my seat"
Makes me shiver. His voice is so raw and powerful but can still lull me to sleep.

well thats a bit weird isnt it
How long did that last.. (also I did the same with "in the morning", cillian murphy, for a while)
