I had the privilege of hearing him and meeting him at the state fair in Jackson, TN when he first released this song. I remember hearing it on the radio and thinking, "Oh wow, Merle has a new song out again - BEST one in YEARS!" Then, when i found it it wasn't Merle, I was just blown away. This song was written by the awesome songwriter named LaDonna Capps, who I later became friends with after writing her about how much her song impacted my life at the time. What a sweet lady.
I really do like Ron's voice. Even though his voice is reminiscent of Merle - and also Lefty I feel - he has a natural talent. A very pleasant voice that I could listen to all day. The way he sings a love song is the way it should be. It's quite a treat to hear a true country artist who actually has a great voice. The background music is perfect, too. At the time the writer, my friend LaDonna Capps, pitched it to me, I had no idea that Conway Twitty had already recorded it. He is wonderful. We watch him and his mother as much as we can on T.V. shows. He sounds like Merle, but he learned from a great performer.
