    Terrance calls Michael out for saving that Kyle info for the most opportune time. Then when he is on the block he tries to make an alliance based on race with Taylor when we know he does not like her. How is he any better?

    Thank you Cody for bringing up the state of Big Brother with regard to matters of race in the game and where do we draw the line. I couldn't agree more with the points you stated, however I have an opinion on where or rather, how that line can actually be drawn. All praise to Taylor for showing the line per se by choosing to go with her strategy vs trying to form a "black" alliance just to save Terrance, which show's how horribly desperate of a game he's been playing the entire time.
    Here's the issue as I see it and I don't think it started with the CO or that the CO was even the problem. The CO was a symptom of a problem that's always been part of the game. Since the beginning there has been an uneven ratio of white to non-white players. Amidst all the various evolutions of game, how it's played, powers introduced, twists, etc., the ratio aspect of the game remained constant and unchanged. There have even been more than a few seasons where there were no minority players. It's taken 21 years before we were presented with a cast evenly balanced white to non-white players. So when you bring together so many non-white players, honestly, the CO was an inevitability. History has shown, the players who looked different from the majority of the house were usually the first to be targeted, whether it be a difference of race, age or even sexuality. That begs the question, where would the BBUS community be now, had CBS committed to a balanced ratio years ago? Where would we be as an audience and players? I do believe had this been the standard set years before now, audience & players alike would not only be accustomed to that landscape, but would possibly be way more apt to view players simply as players, not black, not white, not age or sexuality. I believe there would be a maturity on this part of the game, that to this point, this US BB community has not yet attained. That it's taken this long to be integrated into the game, is why we are seeing the growing pains of getting to that place. It shouldn't be lauded that a black player decides that just because we are the same race does not mean we by default work together, or a white player doesn't automatically assume that is the case. The CO was more than likely a one-time-never-to-be-duplicated effect in the game that shouldn't be considered or feared that that's the way it always will be. CBS fed fans for years this lopsided balancing which became so normalized, that now that they've taken the steps to rectify that, we have to go through the pains of growth and maturity as a community to get to the point where players are just players. That is when the line you stated, will be real in the game. It won't be quick or easy but it is possible.

    • @TheTonyspik
      @TheTonyspik 2 роки тому +3

      agreed. Big brother is a mirror of the outside society. Discrimination continues to have systemic and individual racism, sexism, heterosexism, ageism, ableism, xenophobia etc. Therefore, these social attributed become a part of these players identities because for so long it has been discriminated against. The more diversity and inclusion as well as social justice is normalized, the more these identities will have less of an influence, especially in the game.
      Big brother still has work to do in regard to diversity and inclusion. Increase the age diversity, add more balanced racial diversity, there's more than just black and white people, some gender diversity, maybe a trans or non-binary player, body size, abilities/disabilties, deaf people/ high functioning Autism like Ian, people from different countries like Indy.
      Whyyy???? To mirror what the US looks like as a whole, and to also allow representation for Americans as a whole. Similar to what the Olympics does.
      But yes the line of where race can and can not be used.. is quite blurry at this moment. But a lot of that is due to the dominant colorblind ideology- especially amongst white people... where they prefer to "not see color". This makes them less adept to having complex conversations about race.

      Totally align with your assessment. BB has reached a point of reconning with their history of racial inequity and discrimination. How do we move forward? Just as it played out in BB24. The choices Kyle, Michael and Brittany made, reveal conscious and unconscious bias, microaggressions and the like AND their decisive game plays. There are consequences and life lessons associated with their choices. Let the games PLAY on...

    Asking where do we draw the line is an interesting question. It would have been nice if someone asked that question during BB15 when Aaryn, Ginamarie and Amanda were making so many bigoted, racist, and homophobic remarks towards the other castmates while targeting them week after week, mainly Candice. Their bullying was very difficult to watch and I had to eventually turn off that season. And by the way, that's just one BB example, there were other seasons. No one did anything then, there wasn't a pondering question of concern or collective outrage, as I don't expect a person who is not affected by such behavior will be able to see it or even really care- until it happens to them. That's why a Cookout was formed, to show what it looks like when you dominate and eliminate based on race. Not fair is it? But, one notable difference that the cookout had is that they didn't name call, belittle or intimidate other castmates to get them out. So it's not quite the same. It was their strategy to finally bring the outsiders in the game - for better or worse. Where we draw the line you ask? Well, until the game is fair and integral to all, the lines will continue to blur and we won't know.

      I think cookouts goal of having the 1st back winner on BB made no sense. Considering it already happened on Celebrity BB S2. Like it was unanimous too. Does it really not count bc it’s celebrities? Makes no sense to me. People seem to overlook that & act like the cookout accomplished this 1st. When that’s simply not true. Yes celebrity BB & regular BB is a little different, but they’re still the same game. They should just eject racist like they did on BB Canada with Kyle. I believe they don’t eject HG on BB US bc people usually watch the show for the drama on BB. like Celebrity BB UK has ejected celebrities who’ve said racist & homophobic things. It’s like other BB have stricter rules. There should be a line on the BB US show, but they don’t care. I mean they do eject you if you put your hands on someone or break their rules repeatedly, but that’s it. Which is something they should obviously do anyways.

    • @Cappacinoo1
      @Cappacinoo1 2 роки тому +4

      @@ventustbb3229 The fact that you think that the Cookout's goal made no sense further proves my point. And we'll just have to agree to disagree that there is little difference between regular BB and celebrity BB. However, I do agree with you that BB US needs to take more of a stand against reprehensible behavior of any kind (i.e. Dick Donato pouring tea on Jen's head in BB8, amongst the other terrible things he did, and then later winning the game). If they started to have stricter rules and higher standards that would definitely be a step in the right direction. But if what they value most is the highest ratings possible, that probably won't happen.

      @ventustbb3229 2 роки тому

      @@Cappacinoo1 I’m saying It makes no sense bc it already happened therefore they aren’t making history & their goal was already achieved. So celebrating the cookout & acting like Celebrity BB S2 never happened really annoys me tbh. I’m not hating on them or saying I didn’t like them. I’m just saying it was unnecessary to claim that’s their goal when it already happened. Maybe they didn’t see that season 🤷🏻‍♂️

    11:11 When is it not a good time to use divisive issues that can bind? I think the game has ALWAYS been that way. In earlier seasons, men "ran" the house. Then all-female alliances were formed. Not enough POC winners? They band together. There is nothing inherently wrong with who you gravitate towards and choose to push forward with, I think it's the HOW you do so and WHAT you say. This is why, as messed up as the Kyle situation was, I'm STILL more upset with Michael regarding it.

    Turner has said things on the lives, but so has Monte. He was dragging Taylor WITH Terrance. He was doing the same crap weeks 1 and 2 that everyone else was and talking so much crap on Taylor and saying some really ruthless things. So if we’re gonna talk about things Turner has said, we gotta talk about Monte too. I don’t think Michael turning on britt says anything about the race situation, that’s ridiculous to me. He’s not just gonna throw his game away without trying, and he was frustrated on lives with things she was saying too because she was tanking her own game. And he was so closely associated with her that it looked bad on him as well. Michael was beginning to try to separate himself from her, so I don’t think that has anything to do with “proving” he used the race card. But like… again, no one is mad at Terrance for pulling the race card, it’s so frustrating to me. Everyone is literally acting like Michael is worse than Kyle and it’s just like… come on. I think he should’ve brought it up originally, yes, but people are putting much more on him than needbe and it is to a point where he’s being talked about for it more than Kyle. And if we’re gonna talk about throwing people under the bus like Michael did with Brittney, again, we gotta talk about what Dan did to Danielle not once but twice. I just feel like things now are so hypocritical.

Also, he discussed it with Alyssa too, however she hasn't admitted it. As for Terrance, he was just trying to stay in the game. He tried to get Monte and/or Taylor evicted the whole game. It was only after Kyle left did Terrance suddenly want to "bond" with Monte and than when he realized he could stay with 3 votes, he started sweet talking Taylor hoping she would vote for him and encourage Brittney to vote for him. @@sallyl5071 GUYS FOR DEAR FREAKING LIFE, the issue is that Kyle USED MICRO AGGRESSIONS to get people to turn against the people of color! Both MICHAEL AND BRITTNEY told Kyle to freaking STOP. And that Jasmine and Terrance came to him asking for him to back door MONTE. Which was proof that the people of color were not working together.
      Michael was not only friends with Kyle he was also an ally. Everyone knows the repercussions about saying someone was a racist. And so he warned and told him to stop. Michael talked about an all white alliance making him uncomfortable when Kyle originally said it. So did Britney and she too warned him, BECAUSE THEY WERE FRIENDS. And when Michael found out Kyle was trying to backdoor him, (after he was an ally and friend to him) he asked why tf would he be protecting someone who doesn’t show him loyalty? Plus both his allies Taylor and Britney were on the block and he took Britney off meaning Taylor was going to leave who he was loyal to. So he threw comments out. Plz let’s act like Big Brother isn’t about leveraging things they heard or found out. HE WAS STILL PLAYING BB.
      Oh let’s not forget that Kyle made the first move at the leftovers and took out a POC, his second move was going to be at another POC from the leftovers. He wanted NO PARTS IN THAT NARRATIVE and I don’t blame him. Also him going to Turner and telling him putting Monte up would be a mistake bc Kyle wanted to take out the POC was also him being a slight friend. And that’s why he felt guilty putting up Turner!!! He made Turner do the right thing so he had to honor his promise. Knowing that GAME WISE Turner would have been the best person to backdoor.

I’m a black woman who has watched every season of big brother and I have felt that the POC representation on the show has always been lacking and on several occasions when there were POC they were treated terribly that I understand completely why the cookout was established. With that said I KNEW The ramifications of that was possibly going to change the game in a way that fans and some alum Wouldn’t like. It’s disappointing to me that some people still don’t understand the cookout purpose especially after watching Awful things that transpired in BB21 and BB15 But again I do acknowledge how moving forward biases or the suspicion of biases have become a front runner on the show. I don’t think that’s what the cookout intended. I think they just wanted a fair playing field And even representation which were never really there prior to BB23.

    Race has always played a role in BB. It was just historically used against black people i.e. white alliances teaming up against them until the CO were created (the first season where they had actual diverse enough casting for something like this to happen). Now everyone wants to complain about race being a part of the game, but it was there when multiple people in BB15 were throwing racial slurs directly in the face of black houseguest, in bb11 when braden called kevin multiple racist and derogatory terms, and all the many microagreesions from white houseguest directed at black houseguests over the years.I understand it can be frustrating to see players factor this into their game, but due to the current culture outside of the house and precedent from all 24 seasons, it will always play a role.

    It’s hard to judge on the clip because in the same clip he lied about ever saying it to anyone so who is to say he isn’t lying to placate Kyle & make him feel Comforted so he continues spilling more to him. Literally page 1 in BB handbook is nod and agree to everything to not show your cards. Michael is a gamer first and he showed it again to Brittany on his way out. But regarding the lgbt comment he was calling out Turner who had said he didn’t want to nom someone from the lgbt community similar to Taylor not nomming a black woman. Turner started saying he didn’t want to do it and Michael was like, bullsh*t

      this is what I said. you have to entertain all bs coming from anyone even if you don’t agree with it strategy/morally or otherwise. they told him multiple times Brit especially that “ITS NOT RIGHT” but where are those clips? and 100% Turner used the lgbt card to save his own ass not the other way around. I don’t blame Michael for being pissed.
      And dj blowtime can fly a kite with his “family reunion” so problematic.

    Off topic, but will you guys be covering Survivor this upcoming season? I know you said you didn’t cover season 42 because of the feedback from covering 41 (which I think is dumb viewers did that, I found you guys working through the season together very refreshing and enjoyable seeing a more casual perspective and that’s just simply gate-keeping) with you guys adding Tiffany as a regular I didn’t know if you had any plans to add a former survivor or give it another shot. Love the content!

    Turner told Michael he wouldn't nominate an LGBTQ person -- that's why Michael mentioned it

    I wonder if this is the last season, will CBS decide all the social issues are too much of a headache for them to deal with? Social media is not going away and too many ppl are applying just to be famous (Taylor) or get followers for the money offered by youtube and tictoc!!!!!

    I said this on the last episode with Derrick and Cody and I’ll say it again; I don’t like that Cody says he doesn’t think Kyle‘s actions were racist. As a person of color, I feel that Kyle’s actions were rooted in racism. You can make it sound pretty by saying he has certain biases or prejudices, but for me its racism. Especially when Kyle even said hisself that his grandma was racist.

      It was stupid as fuck cause it was pretty obvious that there wasnt any alliance btw them but why do you think he made that point ?? Maybe because the "best" alliance of all season was only based on skin color, happend last year so very easy to think of and the cast since last season is way more diversed than before ? Kyle saying that his grandma was racist making racist now..... you really gotta grow my friend, twitter is not the real life :)

    Michael knew if he targeted Turner that he would destroy his chances of getting jurt votes at the end no matter how many comps he won

    That’s what happens when you take strong players to the end and they are not your alliance. Brittany was supposed to win and save Michael for a change

      Yeah it's sad that Michael's final 2 literally was zero help for his game. She never won when it counted to save him.

    Great job finally addressing Michael concurring on a cookout 2.0 possibility. Kyle was persecuted but is genuine in his want to learn from. It possibly cost Kyle & Alyssa love, that remains to be seen. Not right at all for CBS to not air that
