    Process:
It turned out that all the soundbg#.dat files had LAME in the file headers when I looked at it in a hex editor.
The console being android-based just used LAME audio encoding. It was at this point I burst out laughing.
All I had to do was unzip the .dat files from the .gz files (a GNU Zip) and change the filename to .mp3
The raw soundtrack with MP3 filenames is in the video description.
Why does it sound like this?:
To the ear, it sounds like they took the ARCADE midis and ran them through a generic soundfont. Some of the percussion samples sound particularly off.
Your guess why they'd make the OST like this is as good as mine, but my suspicion is legal reasons?
Maybe they couldn't use recordings from Sony's soundchip on another games console, as the arcade board was based on PS1 hardware?
    We may never know.

I'd like to add that namco's C352 sound chip used in a bunch of their mid-late 90s Arcade boards never actually used MIDI, namco would've either programmed them manually with their own code tailored for each game, or they would've used some other kind of sound driver with a more musician-friendly UI that handled C352-friendly playback routines on its own.
So assuming they didn't just repurpose old driver code and convert it to MIDI, which is highly unlikely given that source code for most games and dev tools get lost, they would've had to do these MIDIs manually. So they actually put more work into these sub-par MIDIs than you might think lol. They're certainly using some sort of Roland soundfont or VST if nothing else, probably based on the SC-88 MIDI module (1994), based on the sound of those drums.
Though, if you got what are basically MP3s from the game's files, how come namco didn't just use MP3s of the Arcade or even PS1 version's soundtrack? The fact that you extracted MP3s and they were still just fanmade-sounding, MIDI-esque conversions instead of just recordings of the original music raises so many more questions than answers lol

@@SixtyforceYTP I had assumed the soundchip was Sony Proprietary. Not NAMCO.
And, these MIDIs are so high quality, I was pretty self assured that they were rips of some sort, or conversions. I'd seen other developers developing for the PS1 soundchip, using typical midi software which was then respecialised for the PS1 SPU (usually necessitated a quality reduction).
If you're telling me they went to all the effort of either reinventing or creating a conversion tool for the original sequenced sound, I'm more bewildered by the finding.
I'll reiterate, they were literally LAME header MP3 files with different filenames. And after hearing stories of MGS1's 00s PC port, I went looking for if these were fan-made MIDI files "borrowed" by an external dev-team.
I couldn't find any credits in the code either. Not that they aren't there. Just I couldn't see them at a glance. So I don't know who worked on this game.
As soon as ZEEBO emulation gets going, I need to look at this crap.

@@GizouGitai Yeah, the PS1's SPU did absolutely support MIDI, being the second console to do so after the SEGA Saturn. But namco's C352 used in System 11 (Tekken 1 and 2) and System 12 (Tekken 3 and Tag Tournament), as well as namco's in-house designs like System 22 and 23, does not.
The PS1 has 4 possible options for music playback.
--CDDA audio, which is raw PCM (Basically a headerless/containerless version of WAV) that can be played back by any CD player
--Sony's own "XA" format, which is basically their own form of ADPCM, allowing for near-lossless compression of CD audio
--Real-time playback of MIDI sequences, usually always done with custom samples
--Real-time playback of PS1 SPU-compatible sequences of some other kind, usually always done with custom samples and programmed manually or with their own sound drivers, similar in concept to the SNES.
The PS1 version of Tekken 2 certainly doesn't use CDDA for most of its music, since there's only three tracks on the disc. Track 1 for the game data, and Track 2 and 3 for a couple of the game's tunes. I find it unlikely that the PS1 version uses MIDI as a backend for real-time, sequenced playback, I think it's more likely that it uses recordings of the Arcade OST in Sony's proprietary "XA" format.
It's certainly possible that there were some MIDIs in the PS1 version which they then ran through a soundfont and converted them to MP3 for the Zeebo. It's also possible they could've made their own MIPS/Sony SPU-compatible drivers or entirely re-wrote their hypothetical sound code for the PS1 version. But I highly doubt it's either of those, considering it would've been way easier and made way more sense for the PS1 version devs to have them in XA format. So I'm still putting my money on neither the Arcade nor even PS1 versions having MIDIs in them at all.
And again, the fact that the Zeebo version uses MP3s still raises the question as to why they even bothered recreating the songs in some sort of twisted MIDI when they were just gonna have them stream as MP3s anyway. Again, they could've just used MP3s of the original soundtrack, but they didn't, so the fact that these Zeebo versions exist still raises quite a few eyebrows lol.

@@SixtyforceYTPThe PS1 port of 2 (and 3) use XA format for the vast majority of the music yeah, there's no sequenced music in either port too. Redbook was only used for the Staff Roll music in both games IIRC.
Tekken 1 PS1 on the other hand does use CDDA for almost the entire soundtrack, like a lot of launch and near launch titles did, before the games started getting bigger and bolder and devs were finding CDDA format to be too space hungry to be feasible (or for games with use of real time level chunk streaming like Driver and Crash there wasn't enough bandwidth to use anything other than sequenced music).
I should also note that on the preservation side of things Namco seems to have done a good job with their music, as all of the ITunes onwards digital releases of Tekken 1-2's soundtracks are 100% new transfers from the original project files, with a higher clarity, longer cuts and in some cases inconsistencies with the original game files and soundtrack releases. I wouldn't be surprised if they were able to export the original sequences that way (or use them to easily recreate midi file copies).

So, fun fact about the Zeebo version of Tekken 2. It's actually a port of the mobile version of Tekken 2 back in 2009 for select Verizon Wireless phones. I remember seeing a website about this port and I wanted to play it so much back then because a portable Tekken 2 sounded awesome, but it's been discontinued and off of the store obviously, so the Zeebo version is the best way to play it.

I have to say, while a lot of Tekken OST's are bangers, Tekken 2 and Tag1 are genuinely peak, and this is the proof.
The OST is so good, that even some samples being off, don't cut off the magic.
I'm so grateful Tekken 8 would let me use these instead.

      Short answer is, it's mumbojumbo.
      Long answer?
It's mumbojumbo, but it has two potential meanings. To Japanophones it sounds like:
      "朝よい神なの、巫女左にけり"
This can be interpreted anywhichway. A couple reasonable ones are:
      "Morning, Evening, God, that's it.
      The Shrine Maiden kicked left."
      "Good Morning, God's name is...
      The Shrine Maiden grinned."
There was supposedly an 'official' translation, though, in a Dengeki PlayStation magazine.
      "大地の声が聞こえる、私を包む何かが"
"I hear the voice of the earth. Something is covering me."
This doesn't cover the third unrepeated verse, when the song speeds up.
The term used for Covering is 包む as in, to dress in, conceal, or wrap up. It might be an indication of feeling the presence of a ghost, or the singer is buried themself.
I've also found greek phonetic lyrics online that implied the song's a discussion between a Goddess and a female protagonist, repeating the same line to one-another.

@@GizouGitai first things first, thank you for giving such an elaborate answer, as for the lyrics. I dig the greek translation most since jun has almost been deified by the series after t2 but the "official" one is definitely closest to her role and story in t2. Kinda wished the lyrics were more telling but tbh, i almost expected, so i cant say im suprised. Oh well, the song's still a banger.
And again, Thank you for the thorough answer
