      @GregariousAntithesis 2 роки тому

      Nicks, Quality materials, with stitch down construction is a short cut. Go look up what whites norweign welted construction looks like. The sole could be completely gone on the boots and they would still stay together because the boot upper is sewn to a channel in the insole not just stitched down to the sole.

    • @ShutUpBubi
      @ShutUpBubi 8 місяців тому

      @@GregariousAntithesis Nicks boots are almost exclusively goodyear welted. Whites offers pretty much NO Norwegian welted boots in their lineup and it would be pretty easy to search them out given the iconic double welt and stitching pattern that Norwegian storm welts are known for. Both boots are made to the same standards and are bulletproof.

    • @GregariousAntithesis
      @GregariousAntithesis 8 місяців тому

      @@ShutUpBubi you are wrong, i am a boot maker and boot repair man Nicks are not the same build quality and construction. Whites are hand sewn through outer upper and leather inner sole in a channel in innersole. All others including Nicks are just simple stitch downs, turned out upper stitched down through soles.

    Good boots are worth the money, I started with Sears work boots ($50 a pair) and they lasted about a month or two one pair lasted about a week,(concrete and demo) felt every thing I stepped on, one day bit the bullet and got redwing boots and loved them lasted about 1 to 2 years and another 1 -1/2with a resole, you spend more on cheap boots that don’t help then on good boots my next step up is whites boots. The trades are hard on your feet it’s better to spend the money on good boots.

    I've been buying a new pair of Red Wing 2408s every three years since just after the turn of the century. I really prefer the non marking sole on that model. very flexible toe, but the most important thing is that the last for red wings matches my foot. only problem I have is the tread pattern will hold dirt for hours unless you actually wash the sole of the boot. I've had them leave dirt on my floor a full day after I've worked anywhere with dirt. (on a finished floor, I'm more likely to lave them at the door than wrestle with floor savers) migh have to think about white's, though - and I pass through spokane every couple years.

    What I REALLY hate about work boots that I've bought so far is the heel and the lack of cushion for the heel. Its flat leather, no padding nothing. I destroy socks all at the heel because of the constantly movement. Even the best fitted boots still have some movement. Some padding at the heel would do wonders for comfort and most likely save my socks.

    Spokane is kind of the premium boot capital of the US. White's are the original. My brother has been wearing for the last decade. Then there are a few more that were started by former White's employees. Nick's were the boots I started with. But I later found JK Boots, which are excellent! Plus they're a mom and pop shop and call me by name anytime I walk in the door.

      I'm heavy on shoes, just for everyday wear. Cheap junk stuff may last me 3 months if lucky. I pay about 3 - 4 times that for a different shoe and it it well worth it. And they must be all leather, no material bits. They last me on average 7 years. In the end I'm saving money as it works out cheaper in the long run. Just that you have to pay it all out in one big chunk.
      Another trick I do, it will depend on how your shoe looks. Is I have one pair for dirty work and the other I use for smart wear. Then when the dirty work ones are worn out, they become my dirty work ones and I get new ones for smart wear. Thereby extending the life of the shoes for longer too.

    Those boots look amazing. But for me, weather I am doing electrical, plumbing, tree, or IT work, mid height hikers or ultralight is my go to footwear. I may put in 5 miles or more at work and 10+ miles on the trail. I have never been able to tolerate a boot that goes midway to my knee. For every pound on your feet, is 5 pounds on your back. My shoes typically weigh less than one pound per pair.

The red wings are $320 but I am getting them for $280 with my union discount. I found that a flatter boot was also better for my back. But you are right. You must invest in your feet with a quality pair of boots. We should all invest in an American boot company. Wore Whites and Nick's forever as a wildland firefighter, ultimately came to love Nick's. However, the high heel will mess your back and knees up over time; they were intended for standing on steep terrain, not flat ground. They do make a boot with lower heels that I would suggest. Just started a career in plumbing myself and will get the low heel. $120 rebuilds for life for a boot that will ultimately take the shape of your foot beats spending $200+ for a throw away pair every year.

    Socks make a difference, too. You've gone to what might be the best boot but are wearing socks that are cheap and likely not the best for you. At the advice of a co-worker, about two years ago I started looking at on-line reviews of socks and purchasing accordingly. I've also been alternating shoes, never wearing the same pair two days in a row. On top of that, I've been using sole inserts in my shoes (which take up a bit of room and may require a larger shoe size). All this made a great deal of difference in my foot comfort. For years I had painful feet at the end of the work day. Now, no more painful feet. When your feet are tired, it feels like your whole body is tired. One more suggestion: I have wide feet and purchase only shoes that come in extra-wide width. You really don't want your feet being pinched in by shoes that are too narrow.

      I have Thorogoods too. White's are WAY nicer. White's are hand made, use better material, better design and will last much longer. Thorogood used an insole for arch support. Whites uses a heavy duty built-in leather arch support which molds to your foot. Thorogood uses a rubber Goodyear welt which cracks over time. Whites uses a stitchdown method which is superior. Thorogood uses a composite midsole. White's is leather. White's spares no expense with outsole too. Thorogood, not so much. Don't get me wrong. I love my thorogoods, but they really don't compare to White's.

They were warm as hell in the winter, what carhartt is known for but they didnt last maybe nine months before getting a hole torn in them by some outsticking screw. Finally made the plunge and got Whites Sawyer (basically a smokejumper with a steel toe, work required) and havent went back since. Moc shoes. Easily slipped off and on. Low tread depth less likely to track mud in. ZERO laces. If I must get deep I have slip on rompers. If I have to get deeper I have muck boots. If I have to get deeper I tell them to call some stupid younger plumber. Lol just kidding I put my mask on and dive in.

      I'm going to definitely check these guys out. I have one foot that's slightly smaller than the other so it's always a drag. Those are some good looking boots and good looking out showing us that company. Hope all is well and your staying safe through this wackiness!

    Roger!
    Trust me, well, you'll find out. Being a big guy ( which you are and I do not mean heavy ) they will do you no justice for your knees and back. I have an assortment of boots from climbing ( trees/poles ) boots to Irish Setter's, welding, etc. Remember in the mid 70's how everyone jacked Nova's up and put 50's in the back? Well, cross that over with a touch of Gene Simmon's from KISS. Flat heel to medium heel will spare you medical maladies and allow you to run like hell if need be. I have a custom pair of Wesco's that resembles those...somewhere in the closet. They are badass looking, though. When you squat down you'll get the sensation of being pitch forward with those. Be nice to yourself especially as long as you been in the field.

    Sadly most Redwing boots are imported from china and they are junk. Custom boots are must since so many US manufacturers cut corners
