I played the tips a few months ago, shot 83. But a guy in my group from Scotland shot -1. Oh, it was windy and wet. I was a spectator to one of the greatest rounds of golf I personally ever witnessed, it was beautiful, fun, and memorable.

I played my Father in Laws home course 2 weeks ago (also Scottish) and the rain was so bad you were sinking ankle deep in some parts of the fairway. We were striping drives, and the ground was so soft, the ball just plugged. Best and worst round ever.

Had the pleasure about 20 odd years ago when I was in my early 20’s and played with a 3 local lads all 17/18. Talked music / golf and life / smoked up a storm on the 2nd tee box and watched them all shot casual 71/71/73. I had an 82 Only cos of their knowledge and chill attitude. Started back up a couple years back / practicing a bunch / improving thankfully and am going to go back next year and play with the same lads who all live local(ish) after starting families and still play once a week on the property

As a 12 handicap myself, I was feeling the pain of my fellow 12 handicap golfer Cam in this one. Us mid-handicappers can't base our day on the course on the score, we need to keep things in perspective, or we'd probably just walk off halfway through the round. LOL.

Cam is the first player I’ve seen on a UA-cam that actually plays like I play (as a high handicapper). His swing actually looks nice (ignoring where the ball actually goes) and there’s nothing especially wonky about it, but when he misses, he misses really bad. He either hits fairway or has to grab a new ball from the bag.

    • @GLangry
      @GLangry 8 місяців тому

He's not setting his wrists until the end so he takes it back reaally far basically to the end of his range of motion and uses that as his trigger for the downswing - that gets the club head super far from the ball and his right arm super far from his body while also making his plane a little vertical. Those things combined make it very difficult to swing it back down on plane. He's a stellar athlete so he's still a great golfer. I'd like to believe that if he set his wrists earlier almost to initiate his backswing, and then only brought the club back to what he would likely consider a 75% swing, he'd drop that handicap so fast.

I like the fact that you walk, and carry your clubs, now THAT is Old School.
At sixty nine, I can walk eighteen, depending on terrain. But I use a pull/push cart.
We just played a nine hole course, the first four was brutal.
    I cannot do eighteen there.
    What a Blast.
We have adopted, ( we, me and a good friend , I met here in n. e. Ohio, ) the postal code, " Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds. "
Revised edition, " Neither snow, ( up to two to three inches, " ) nor rain, ( except a torrential down pour, ) nor heat, nix the dead of night, no lighted courses here, shall keep these golfers from their tee time on sunday afternoon, depending on the courses.
We have pictures. Y'all have a great day.

At the Black, you can tell how your round is going to be by three things.
One, is the waste up or cut-down.
Because you're going to see a lot of waste on the course.
Two, do you hit your drive past the tees in the dogleg, into them, short of them or left into the fairway or at least into the rough left of the fairway. Because you're going to see a lot of trees and long rough on the course. They will tempt you, time and time again, to try to hit saves that only get you into even worse trouble.
Third, do you put your approach-shot on the green.
Because you're going to see a lot of traps, waste and rough guarding the greens.
    See the above.
If you can't stay out of the trees and the waste, forget breaking 100 because the whole course is basically nothing but trees and waste with a little-bit of fairway and some long rough between the tees and greens.
If you can't stay out of the rough and on the fairways and greens, you're going to have a long day but at least with persistence you can play this course. The rough is going to cost you a stroke time and time again, but you can hack out of it back into the fairway and carry on.
If you can't put your approaches on the greens, forget about breaking 90.
Because you're going to lose strokes possibly even lose balls in the sandy waste just off the greens to the sides and back.
You still will have to deal with all the spike-marks on the greens.
Because a lot of players here are from the tri-state area, and tri-staters don't give a shit about the restrictions on spikes. They don't really give a shit about any restrictions. They will bring their damm bags into the bars in the clubhouse. If you think that they care about scuffing-up the greens and fixing ball-marks on the greens, you are wrong. And that is what you're going to have to putt through. Time and time again over 18 holes.
But first you have to get on the greens.
And on the Black, that will be an odyssey that you will never forget.
Oh, have I mentioned that it's 7300 yards?
The problem with the Black is not that it is hard, or tight, or long.
It's completely intolerant of shots that go offline or long behind the greens.
And for five hours, as you walk that 7300 yards, you will be reminded of this time, and time, and time again.
