If you leave the touch hole uncovered and just have the powder in the pan with an airgap there will be less delay. It burns hotter and less like a fuse.
Hello gentlemen. It's good, you made a turkish-Otoman rifle blunderberg very good. At the back, the wooden lodge, although it is American style, it is not Ottoman, Turkish style, but nothing. You have made it strong, comfortable, beautiful.
I loved this video . I remember my dad made a coffee table. He whipped it with a chain.❤. You gun is beautiful. Great job. I'm buying that kit next month. Thank you for the tips
Easiest kit ever. 2 hrs. Beautiful gun! Very little sanding, gun is not like the rifle kits. Best first time, but this was the second (I did a Hawken, first). Traditions is a great product!
love black powder.. always wanted a blunder buss... their in stock too.. but alas si think im going to get the 1858 Buffalo first.. thoe 12 inch barrel bisson guns are always out of stock and now 1 iss finally in stock out of 17 websites ive checked.. but man i wish i had a blunderbuss.. next time maybe. I would have used Lint seed oil though to stain that if thats actual walnut
I've got the percussion version. I dyed the wood ebony and left the barrel white. I have to drive a few miles to find real black powder. Pyrodex is easier to find, so that's why I went with the percussion version as flintlocks work better with the real stuff. But yeah, it is a fun gun to shoot! Though I only tend to use it to blow holes in junk and grab some attention at the range. lol
You said in the video that the barrel is riffled to the bell, but the website has it listed as a smooth bore. Is there a different option for the rifled barrel or do they not make them anymore?
Many did have wide barrels like this to make it easier to load on horseback. You're the most loony Toon's looking excuse for a human I've ever seen! Jk 😊

It would be kept in large oak kegs, or a single person would carry powder around in a horn. Powder would definitely get wet though and be rendered useless. Just apart of the struggle.
It was a constant challenge, but the best they could do was get high quality powder and high quality barrels, and keep the magazine as dry as possible. Eventually though, the powder would likely degrade, even in the best of conditions. Sailors would keep personal use powder in special tins or horns, often seal with wax when stored.
You need to close the frizzen after priming the pan. Technically primed or not but leaving it open when primed is a very dangerous practice. If someone smoking walks by and an ember happens to float down to the pan, you guessed it. Nice video but don't leave an open pan especially if it's primed.
@@BeetleBuns he may very well be at his house....but being the high number of tide pod eaters like yourself out there, this can be taken as a common practice. Then when you go to a range and do this, there's other people nearby that are at risk of your carelessness. Class dismissed.
@@JamesReedy that's the thing, there could be... someone smoking, range neighbors burning stuff, or anything else that could produce an ember can travel a mile or two and land on the priming charge. Nice try though.
@@nickdershem9357 nice try? Doesn’t make any sense bro, I was agreeing with you lol. I have a 50 BMG the muzzle blast goes everywhere, knocks stuff off adjacent benches etc.
In my humble opinion that was way too much powder for such a little shot ammount. Also halfing the priming powder would make the flash much quicker, you seemed to have a very slow burn-in
@@65stang98 well for starters he used too much priming powder and clogged up the touchhole with priming powder. Notice how much of a delay that shot had? It should be almost instant.

This kit is nearly $500. For it to be a poor mans gun it's awfully expensive and its not even finished or assembled for that $500. I want a blunderbuss but thats a ridiculous price for what you get! I guess if I want one I'll just have to make it myself. Sounds like a fun project!
They've starting trying to slip flintlocks etc into new gun bills. I believe that NY is the only state that considers black powder guns a firearm currently. They won't stop chipping away at the constitution until it's all gone.
The only good way to fake age-patina on wood or leather is to use a chin bone of a deer or something just like that. Deer bones are the popular choice, I believe. You take it and run it down the material whilst twisting it back and forth. Other methods are worthless
@@thehive7571 Not true. Black powder muzzle loaders are not considered firearms by the ATF, so there are no restrictions based on criminal record, age, gender, how ugly you are, or anything else. But there may be a state law, so check on that too.
I just got mine, don't think it's rifled. There are swirl marks in the barrel but it looks more like the marks from the barrel being turned on a lathe. The circles looks concentric, they don't run down the barrel in a long swirl like on normal rifles.
@MuzzleLoaderscom Yeaaa, i get it, marketing blah blah. It can be rough for bp shooters to watch non muzzleloaders do muzzleloader content. Maybe we are not who you are trying to reach. But i sure woulda liked to see him fling one of those Great Plains slugs outta that thing. Future vid?

There's NOTHING more satisfying than making your own tools or toys and then putting them to good use. Congrats! Eat lots of turkey.
Hello. This blunderbuss kit is manufactured in Spain, by the Ardesa company. Traditions markets it in the United States. Greetings from Spain.
Great video. Definitely going to purchase one and try it out.

Well then don't buy one.
How did pirates keep their gunpowder from getting wet on the ship? How did they keep their powder dry?
It would be kept in large oak kegs, or a single person would carry powder around in a horn. Powder would definitely get wet though and be rendered useless. Just apart of the struggle.

I think they went overboard with that bell. That could have been a bit smaller, it would have looked more “authentic”.

“What’s a blunderbuss Gary?”
“Not much what’s a blunderbuss witchu?”
What is the maximum firing range of a blunderbuss anyway? like 15 to 20 yards?
Depends on what you're using as a projectile, but accurately, I wouldn't put it much past 30 yards
In my humble opinion that was way too much powder for such a little shot ammount. Also halfing the priming powder would make the flash much quicker, you seemed to have a very slow burn-in
Ya, that is getting close to a deer rifle charge. I bet more than 50g wouldn't burn in that short of a barrel
I plan to get one very soon, I don't have any tools, what tools could you recommend to assemble it? I think this is very cool...great video.
I have one of these kits as well. I noticed there was a tiny gap between the barrel and the flash pan. is this normal?
What is the maximum firing range for a blunderbuss? like 15 to 20 yards?
I had the same issue. I went ahead and inletted the lock another 1/8” to close that gap. Functions fine. That must have been a flaw in manufacturing.

I dont see why you would considering the blasting would just ruin thr coat. They used to be made of gun brass, which stained less.

Too much primer and you don,t want it over your touch hole. That’s why you had a slight hang fire.
