Brilliant Koch. seeing him transition from materialism to something more idealist is good for the soul. This are great brilliant people who recognise and demonstrate there is always room for change and something different . Something that many young coming out of university don’t learn. They subscribe too much from methods like Sabine Hossenfelder and they remain stuck with their egos.
Thank you so much! That’s very kind to me. I really enjoyed this conversation with Christof we both opened up a lot about personal experiences. Thanks for the support!
It feels kind of obvious that stating that psychedelic drugs and other techniques that work on the physical substrate, in this case the nervous system, actually prove rather than disprove the physical basis of consciousness. I know Dr. Koch is a respected researcher, and I'm not downplaying his work, but every time I listen to a psychedelic figure talk about consciousness beyond the physical I can't help but feel like they're trying to shoehorn this idealistic notion of consciousness without actually explaining anything about how it works, etc. I still think Daniel Dennett's notions of what consciousness is and how it works are practically undeniable compared to competing theories.
Consider whether the physical substrate has a generative or configurative role. If the latter, then Koch's move towards mind being higher order than matter is easier to countenance. The human mind is undeniably conditioned by the human nervous system, but that may only achieve a crude - but evolutionarily adaptive - level of conscious experience. Suspending, or temporarily disorganising/disrupting, neural architecture via psychedelics may pull back a veil of deeper, unconfigured states of consciousness.
Well he doesn’t know, nobody knows. I tried to ask him a few times what particular theory he subscribes to and I think he like parts of each theory. None are adequate enough for him to outright say one of them
What a time to be alive. Thank you for this interview.

Sorry I should Add also well done Evan. You are doing great you proposed good questions
Thank you so much 🙌
Consciousness is all that actually exists. Everything we experience is Perception In Consciousness.
Yeah it’s wild right?
Enjoyed this discussion on a subject that I have not ever thought about.
One of the best interviews ive heard with him. Covers a broad range of topics. When is his new book gonna be on audible............

Bernardo Kastrups writings attempt to answer your questions .

I'd like to know what Christof thinks about Dr. Donald Hoffman's 'Interface Theory.'
I’m unfamiliar with this idea. What does it say?
Koch looks like Harrison Ford.
Hahaha I’m sure he would be very flattered to hear this.
