When this song came out many people didn't know the song's name, they only knew the first verse, so they would go to record stores and ask for that "hip-hop song". Most don't know why it's called hip-hop, well, this song is why.
1979. Them brothers was going in, then! The first rap jam that started it all. Lyrically, these mc's were phenomenal. Best rap jam by a group ever. Also you may want to look into RUN DMC, "I'm the King of Rock"!
The dance they were doing was the Hustle, common with many disco records and it makes sense because this song was sampled from the Chic record Good Times.
Shavonn & Monroe I am european, 57 and would like to say Thank You for a wonderful reaction to one of the dance tracks of my younger days. Unlike me this will never age :-)
overr 40 years ago in brooklyn all us young italian mobsters were diggin this fun music at weddings, parties, disco, today it deteriorated into crack heads, violence, no singing, no fun stuff, too bad
Sugar Hill Gang was one of the pioneers bro you right without them the Rap game wouldnt be where they at my G...... But you right bro they one of the forefathers of freestyle rap and rap period.....
Big Bank Hank`s lyrics were supposedly written by Grandmaster Caz. There's even a drunk history episode about the creation of this song: ua-cam.com/video/blWuBCtBnSo/v-deo.html
I love freestyle genre and would love to see those reactions. That was Diamond Girl by Nice & Wild, that she was singing. React to the Cover Girls - Show Me
This was the first commercial rap tune to explode on the scene they didn't create hip hop a lot of the rhymes were bitten from cool herc and the cats who created the block parties in the Bronx watch some origins of hip hop videos this will be explained great tune none the less, sugar hill was a record labels and these MCs were one hit wonders look at the real pioneers afrikka bambatta, grand master flash and the furious five, and so on !!!!!!
1979. I was 9 when this dropped. There where a lot of groups back then. We would watch their live performance, this was not the first Hip Hop. You’d have to go back to the early 70’s. Although it was the first to go mainstream and be played coast to coast. The first hip hop song recorded was actually by a woman. No one bothered to put Hip Hop on wax back then and the Sugar Hill gang was considered to be a joke. The original Hip Hop Heads felt disrespected.
1. Not the first rap single. The first Top 40 Rap single. 2. There may not be any cursing technically, but I'm sure parents don't want to hear their 3 year old rapping about "pleas(ing) you with his little worm, but I can bust it out with my super sperm." LOL. That line just came out of nowhere. I'm sure it was written by Grandmaster Caz like the rest of Hank's lyrics in this song.
Now see this wasn't what they didn't really call it was the first rap song but I don't know if you can call it rap but but I don't know I mean I was young I was I wasn't Young when to come out I was s*** I was man I don't know much twenties I forgot what year it came out I think it was in the 80s or 90s but yeah I did this song got played so much in the bar on the jukebox my God where's about ready to throw that jukebox outside cuz everybody played this song but you got the short version man there's a version on there they're almost 15 minutes long
Well it wasn't called accident it didn't actually they didn't even charge it as a war they were just you know it wasn't actually called a war I'm just I know what you're talking about I mean I was there too I know what you're saying but it was a war to us but it wasn't actually declared awards on I'm just saying a war zone that's what I was talking about
They stole hood dudes bars. A exec was lookin for popular rappers and asked a random guy workin in a pizza corner store if he knew how to get iin touch with them. He =got his friends and stole the guys lyrics and this was made.
This busted down doors for rap/hip hop genre to be successful,accepted,well-known.They were the catalyst.

They WERE the first! This came out in 1979, I was a senior in high school. I loved this song. Knew every word then and still know most of them.
This was fire back in the day! I remember it well! Best days EVER! The introduction of Rap/ Hip Hop.❤
The dance they were doing was the Hustle, common with many disco records and it makes sense because this song was sampled from the Chic record Good Times.
1979 The Birth Of Rap Music Right Here
They are the OG's of Rap. The first rap record released in 1979.
They stole the lyrics from real rappers and imitated street guys. UA-cam it.

Maybe not the first rappers, but definitely the first ones to make rap popular. The Chic "Good Times" backing track probably helped a lot.
1979 n still groovy
This brought back some nice memories, remember dancing at the parties to this song way back in the days,,..
Hip hop was around NYC since mid 70s. It was 1st successful single release. Recorded w a band because of copyright concerns
