Absolutely excellent. This video has already helped me in my first year undertaking a social works degree. I have to complete an assignment around a case study while incorporating social work theories and models and I didn’t know where to start. What you said is really useful. I think I will use quite a lot of your advice and blend in system theory and task and behavioural model approach , obviously referring to literature and using your advice on where to start. Thank you 🙏
This has really helped me Kayleigh thank you so much. I am currently studying in year 2 for my social work degree and have an assignment on adults. I have found it difficult to get my head around method model approach and this is helped me to understand them alittle better. Thank you please keep making these videos 😊
I really enjoyed your video. I have only been qualified for around 18 months and trying to incorporate more theory into my practice. It would be great to know more about incorporating theory and models when writhing case note and assessments. Is this something you do? X
Hey so to be honest I didn't until I came into this current role I'm in now and my manager asked me to. So I can discuss how I do this in my assessment now. I think this is a really good idea for a video. 👍😃
I don't quite understand how social workers use theories in some cases. Like do they just compare their client case in a theory and then find some interventions?
I think most practitioners tend to use accessible resources like Siobhan Maclean's theory cards to get an idea of key points of a particular theory or intervention and then look wider for information from other sources as required. Once you have a grasp of some of the key ideas of a theory you start to see the connections in people's real life situations. For example, grief and loss. 👍
So... does any social work theory have anything to say on the extraordinary lack of men choosing to engage in the profession of social work over the past several decades?
Sorry to hear you've had a difficult time in a local authority. I think it's a really tough time to be a social worker at the current moment, however I would say that experiences can drastically vary depending on multiple factors and I wouldn't right yourself off working in an LA because you may find somewhere you feel able to work well in. There are roles for social workers in the voluntary sector as well x
