Actually Sonic is canonically smart though. He perceives everything at a faster level and average. If he didn’t he would always bump into things whilst he runs. When it was just him and Tails he would teach tails everything. Sonic just likes to be more physically involved than stationary but he is smart.
To his credit, Sonic is still able to think fast to almost everything around him and react accordingly. Not smart like Tails, but still clever to beat whatever is ahead of him. = )
