Spotify have admitted to promoting music using their algorithm after making a deal with labels before so this is not anything new..
Nowdays it's just business if they even made a medicore song it will be a hit nowdays companies don't even try to make a good song especially big3 companies i don't know what is really happening with jyp and yg their recent songs sucks cannot believe they used to release songs like what is love,bang bang,whistle,cheer up etc and the songs are especially made for tiktok challenge songs are barely 2 minutes with just one hookstep

I don't know why ya'll are complaining and trying to make it look suspicious when you don't have premium, sometimes you can search a song then when you press it another that you didn't want will come even after the one wanted to play another you did not search or want will come it's not just Magnetic. That's why in those ads they tell you to pay(premium) so that you can control what you listen....ya'll are so dramatic

People are complaining because you don't get the SAME SONG playing over and over again.
I don't have premium account as well and I'll get recommend songs all the time. But it almost never playing the same song again and again.
This is what makes it suspicious.
Not because we get recommended songs.
But because the recommendation is the same song over and over again. Without we put the song or the artist on our playlist.
I almost exclusively listen to Boy groups on Spotify and even in my daylist it recommended more ILLIT songs than Ateez on the playlist.

It is obvious Hybe used lot of payola to promote their talentless groups Illit and New Jeans. Otherwise nobody with functioning brain will listen to that torture.

I agree with Easy. At some point, I got Easy every single time I got annoyed too and the thing is I love the song but it got way too overplayed in my autoplay

I'm sorry, there's no way that those recomendations are 100% organic. And I'm not saying this just to bad mouth Illit, I actually think this is a pretty common practice in the music industry, they just don't open this up to the public. I mean, would spotify be THIS BIG just with premium memberships? I don't think so
About magnetic, when i was in my dads car we were playing our family kpop playlist, magnetic starting playing and i asked who added it but my sisters were all confused, its not on the playlist and ofc my dad wouldnt listen to kpop. The same also happened when i was on spotify, anytime random songs play, magnetic is always playing, and i have never streamed it or its not not on any of my playlist, idk but seems kinda sus

App I heard it that it comes as a recommendation, happens to me a lot with blackpink songs and other popular songs..it’s bc if you are listening to kpop then Spotify gives you a recommendation of other kpop songs and bc magnetic recently came out and is really popular many places it will be on your recommendation list..if you don’t want it to come you can simply just block them. It’s not payola or anything it’s just Spotify way to recommend..otherwise if songs like bp songs that aren’t even in my playlist comes (even tho it’s recommendation from Spotify) I can’t blindly say it’s “yg payola” that’s just stupid but I do sometimes just either block the groups that I don’t want song to come or just listen to it cuz it seems interesting to me 😭 but idk abt you

I stream BM's sheesh on UA-cam all the time but when i walk off, Magnetic kept coming to the feed. It is strange the song just kept appearing on all different devices. Now I have to make playlist, someone also suggest to block the channel.
at one point no matter what playlist or song album i listened to, as soon as it finished i had ‘Guerilla’ by ATEEZA start playing (when i had literally never listened to them before at that point)

I hate to say this but i think there is some truth to the Spotify magnetic thing. If it's being paid for or not by hybe idk. I just know almost everytime it played after even if i was playing something a completely different genre. and I've never once gone and played the song on Spotify or added it to my playlist. weird :/
okay, i've never listened to Illit on spotify so i tried this, 4/8 kpop songs were followed up by Magnetic (Feel My Rhythm and Me Gustas Tu were followed by RV Bad Boy, PK Zombie was Followed by CLC Devil, and Kill this Love was followed by Sabrina Carpenter)

Hybe is investing more in Spotify compare to UA-cam as you see there UA-cam views are average with the help of Spotify artist gets plus points to enter bilboard charts and although hybe did this in case of other groups also but illit made suspicious as their survival show was not that successful and international fans hated the finale line up although korean fans supported them
Same thing happened to me with Spotify for drama & spicy and I have never played aespa on my spotify (even with jpop or even western artists). I find this is usually whichever large group has recently had a big debut/cb (specifically since they have a large amount of streams at once), usually has this occurrence. I wouldn't call it payola, it's just the algorithm basing it off of what's trending in a region/genre.

Yeah it’s Spotify recommendation, last year I kept getting shut down on my playlist.. Spotify recommends you songs if it’s similar to your genre (aka kpop)
Payola is illegal in the US, but only applies to DJs and radio stations. The streaming services get paid by the labels to boost the algorithm. This is why you can't trust the streaming numbers or records of new songs. I don't do the mixes or the auto-playlists for this reason. I've only heard Magnetic twice, because I have to click on it. I haven't heard Sheesh yet, even though it pops up in my suggestions all the time.
It is definitely interesting how many people have experienced the same thing on Spotify with illit… Your experiment definitely didn’t help with the suspicions either 🤣
Because that's how Spotify algorithm works... when you listen to kpop, the hottest kpop song will keep being recommend to you
@@Melia_67 i'm not so sure about the next recommended songs being the "hottest" or latest. Few months ago i had play my searched kpop song then recomended songs from other kpop soloist or artist that i have never heard of plays. So that must be a recent thing.

I understand why magnetic is popular but it KEEPS GETTING RECOMMENDED every damn day istg. I had never listened to to Magnetic before on spotify but I did the experiment and it recommended the song everytime as well even after skipping, same for Easy a while ago... Hybe definitely has a deal, I think Spotify has even disclosed to promoting songs like this

It's funny how I actually listen to Lessrafim and Illit, but I usally have to put them on my queue because Spotify rarely plays them when I listen on shuffle. It happens with some other groups too.

i tried the spotify thing as someone that didnt stream magnetic at all there, i picked several songs from different gens and the only time that it appeared on the list was when i played new jeans, but it was like, on 8th or something. but the first song that always played was some song i was listening to a lot recently, so it makes sense that in your case that magnetic played every single time
before magnetic came out dash by nmixx would play after every song i played but now it's also magnetic lol

I think the Magnetic thing is the Spotify algorithm.... Whether it's payola is 50/50 for me. Tbh I hadn't heard of illit or the survival show but once I heard the song I loved it and want to play it ? Interesting that it doesn't seem to be suggested so strongly on UA-cam Music ?

@@FrostyPlayzYTif the majority of your listening history is kpop, that's what they will play for you in autoplay, the biggest current kpop hits. If it was being paid, they would have been added to the top spotify playlists.
@@mindymins i tend to loop songs, so my autoplay is normally a song i had just looped/a song i listen to a lot,, i’ve probably only gotten a song that i’ve never listened to before as my autoplay during the entire duration that i’ve used spotify once. then again, i wouldn’t say for sure that it’s payola because it could always be dumb luck but…

@@Eli-ku4mw yes it literally has. that is why i started blocking every kpop group because i kept getting love dive by ive repeatedly even tho i don't listen to ive. or nct, or stray kids or aespa when next level was huge. sometimes my playlist will end and it will start playing kpop songs. and that was consistent to the point i blocked them. if you block magnetic, it will stop playing too.

Literally paused the video to go try it out. Haven’t used my spotify in a month (premium) played all the current trending songs, 3rd Gen songs too, and magnetic played every single time after. Even played a BP song thinking babymon would play after because of the beat similarity but nope, Illit takes the win every time. Spotify must be recommending the current trending song, they’re not wrong though.
all i know is if magnetic has payola accusations i should make some accusations for ETA.. I KID YOU NOT for the past 10 days EVERY TIME my playlist ends it starts playing EVEN THO i clicked "hide this song" multiple times.. listen i loved it when it came out but hey not too much now.. not too much.

5:35 / 5:38 this happened 2 me so many times after i finish my ateez, enhypen, itzy, twice, nmixx, or cherry bullet playlists, it will come on no matter what, sometimes if I skip the song I get a decent good one then after that one magnetic comes on, it gets me mad so much, I don't stream ILLIT on my Spotify account at all nor have ever viewed their Spotify account
I meannnn they did the same thing with NWJS . Super shy came on after I would finish other albums from western artists or k artist and nobody bated an eyelash 😭
From what I learned from the Nth room case, it's that people working at the telecom etc companies that break ethics and seek/provide the private info of individuals to others. Also we have heard that some saesangs purposefully pursue jobs that would give them access to idols.
Kinda why you would hear that people get numbers etc under their friends/staff/family's name.

one thing about spotify is even after closing the app if you still have some songs in your queue or you played a specific playlist or song when you reopen the app it's gonna play it. I personally have that problem with spotify and I wish I knew how to clear everything off my queue or stop playlists because even when I make my own playlist and it ends it starts to play a previous song or playlist I have listened too. idk if there is a way to clear it but I feel like they should make it more clear on how to stop it. That might be a reason as to y you keep hearing the same song after a playlist, tho this is just my experience so I wouldn't know
The autoplay for Magnetic is making me hate the song tbh. It's cringe.

I tried seeing what the algorithm on Spotify would give me, so I played a 5th gen song and of course, Magnetic started playing lol. However, I have been streaming it a lot myself and the suggested list was all stuff I have liked.

Hybe deffo is doing something dodgy. Iwas looking at ILLIT’s Spotify and screamed. 50M streams one song is crazy ngl. There’s no way something fishy is not happening im sorry.
I think it is an algorithm because for me "the boy is mine" by Ariana Grande kept playing at the end of my playlist which has been trending on TikTok. However if it was paid for I think they'd push one of the singles from her album "Yes, and?" or "We can't be friends (wait for your love)" not a popular non-single/b-side that already has viral TikTok promotion. Also "Magnetic" is just a viral song... songs go viral on tiktok all the time if a company decides to push that song more than the average release that doesn't make it payola. The song is top 10 on Spotify and Apple Music. I could kinda already tell this song was gonna be Cupid 2.0, a viral song not really connected to the group/artist just a popular single. I think if this was Belift/Hybe's plan they would try to get out in front of it instead of making more TikToks the goal should be making a viral group that produces hits, not one viral song.

This has happened to me for magnetic but since I liked and have played this song its not a surprised but I noticed if I listen to a relatively new kpop song then Magnetic does played after and now Baby Monster Sheesh even thought I've never liked or played the song. And another new one was a debut song for Qwer T.B.H. which I also have not listened to before. So I believe it is an algorithm on Spotify but I wouldn't be surprised if companies have pushed these new groups song on these algorithms. I can see how this would help the stream numbers. Spotify has slowly been pushing their algorithms at listeners more and more with their premium shuffle feature as well. I don't like it most of the time but sometimes is fun to hear new songs.
I just tested out to see if spotify would play bc I have never listened to the song on spotify bc i use apple music. Bro I played midas touch, dash, one spark, and superwoman. Magnetic was next for all of them.
The thing a Spotify stream only counts when you play it for more than 30 seconds and if a song comes up and you don't want to listen you can stop the song and your stream will not be conducted its as simple as it is and another if you really hate getting recommended songs on Spotify you can turn off the autoplay button..
Most of the time my mobile phone is wide away in my house so it takes som time to get there and skip.
So much material and discussion about the Spotify (and other streaming and social media) algorithm has been going on FOR YEARS only for kpopers to put on a tinfoil hat and call it all HYBE payola. What do y'all expect? Listening and researching a theme all day but the hottest topic on that theme to doesn't appear on your scream? The new generation is worse than boomers at understanding the basics of technology.
It would be strange if you only listen to K-pop and out of nowhere start playing Punjabi or American country, but if you play another group similar to your taste, it's just your consumption pattern, no need to conspiring theories.
Absolutely most of these people complaining doesn't have premium 😂, I mean without premium even I can search a song I want and another I don't want start playing I just have to skip until I get the one I want. Even after a song you want plays another you didn't want will play, that's why the say in the ads pay to control what you listen to. At these point pple just want somewhere where Hybe or any of it's groups is being dragged for them to dump there frustrations THIS FORCED HATE TRAIN they act like the companies their favs are in are saints

You all know you can configurate your account on Spotify so when lets say your playlist ends it automatically repeats itself instead of give you recomendations, right?
I think it is mostly Hype groups doing this payola thing though because I've gotten Enhypen's "Pass the mic", New jeans "Hype boy", Lessafims "Easy", and now "Magnetic"! I don't even really like those songs 😭😭

I would say, although I would definitely expect the music industry to use/do payola here and there! I think in the case of Magnetic, or Easy like you said, it isn't it. Spotify this year was doing a lot of... questionable integration of AI. Executed well to an extent, but still resulting in some odd behaviors. We have the Spotify AI Radio, which is already legitimately taking into account *everything* you've listened to ever on that account, as well as the AI Shuffle for non-premium members. As a Spotify Premium user, I always have my playlists on repeat, but I forgot to turn it on for these new language-based playlists I made. On my K-Pop playlist, I was getting all the currently trending songs in K-Pop, which makes sense! The algorithm is assuming we all want to listen to either highly streamed songs or new releases. However, on my Spanish playlist, I was not getting K-Pop songs, which I feel like if I did that would have DEFINITELY been Payola FOR SURE.
i do think it is the algorithm. because when a label pays spotify, its because they are paying them to add an artist to all the major playlists. as you can see an artist like olivia rodrigo or taylor swift or justin beiber always end up high on these top playlists even if some artists have more daily streams. thats literally because their label pays for it.
while when a song just automatically plays, more often its because they usually suggest songs based on your listening history. if you listen to a lot of kpop, it will play you whatever the latest popular kpop song is. it happened to me with IVE, stray kids, lesserafim, nct. if you don't want autoplay you can literally turn it off and block artists. or pay for the premium so that won't happen anymore.
While i think it's messed up that Sully's account got leaked but im definitely happy to see that she's just a great person she's my NMIXX bias

It’s important to distinguish between payola for radio (illegal) vs payola to Spotify, Apple Music, etc (legal). Payola for radio play is illegal because radio stations are regulated by the FCC (US federal govt agency). With some exceptions, radio stations must pay regulatory fees to the FCC and are subject to federal regulation under 47 CFR Part 73, which includes a section prohibiting payola and kickbacks to radio stations. FCC regulations don’t apply to streaming companies like Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora. So, while payola to streaming services to highlight a particular song may seem an unsavory practice, there currently are no laws against it

My personal finding with illit on Spotify is that I was at a friend’s house, he never listens to kpop btw, and I played Midas touch on his Spotify and after that illit got played. I never believe the payola allegations but perhaps this has some truth to it this time…
For me, it's Hype boy what plays first after a random kpop song. Not mad about it tho, it might be because I have it on my liked list and genuinely stream it a lot 😅
I have noticed that streaming services don't look at kpop as music with different SOUNDS. It's all one genre. That's interesting that spotify will take into account different generations of kpop though. But even Pandora which is supposedly known to have algorithms with music SOUNDS can't distinguish kpop songs from each other. It's just association.
I listen to Illit and other GG groups, but I rarely get any recommendations from them😭It's all BG songs( or mostly it's Moemae guy😭)

The Magnetic issue is not really that deep, guys. The song is just that popular for the general public in the kpop side of Spotify, if you play a song that is also what the Magnetic listeners play, then it will be recommending Magnetic. Also, if the songs you usually play in general match with the users who play Magnetic, then it will increase that likeliness. It's how the algorithm works. I tried it with my Spotify account which I usually use to listen to Dreamcatcher and Nmixx, and when I played a Vcha song, it then recommended Love Me Like This followed by BOCA.
i think spotify said that they make deals with companys so that the songs get played/recomendet but u get less money in general

I too am a victim of the magnetic spotify auto play curse lol. I find it sus because I already have the song saved and have played it loads, surely if its an algorithm thing then the algorithm would recognise this and recommend a new song
I get a different song everytime I play something,the first time I played monster by exo then I got magnetic,the second time I played smoothie and then got tap by taeyong,then I played haircut by xdinary heroes and then got But I like you by boynextdoor so I think it’s honestly just whatever spotify knows you like then it’ll recommend those songs because I will play all 6 very willingly😭
Spotify has acknowledged doing this since long ago through deals they have with labels… also the payola laws don’t apply to online streaming platform the way everyone thinks

9:27 so I tried it myself on Spotify but I don’t usually stream Magnetic I only streamed it like 13 times so back to what I was talking about,I played non related HYBE songs like Le Sserafim Newjeans BTS etc and I played non HYBE related songs like,YG,S2,JYP,SM etc but it still played magnetic like monsters,Shut down,Midas touch,Vanilla,Pink venom,Payback and Cheshire and they all played Magnetic by Illit so MAYBE IT IS PAYOLA? (No hate just based on my experience)
I think It's more taking a cut than paying. Spotify has a deal where they will recommend ur songs more if you take a cut.
