  • Victimae paschali laudes is a sequence prescribed for the Roman Catholic Mass and liturgical Protestant Eucharists of Easter Sunday.
Chant directed by the Maitrîse de Notre-Dame.
Great organ: Olivier Latry, titular organist
Choir organ: Yves Castagnet, titular organist.
    Text:
    Victimae paschali laudes
    immolent Christiani.
    Agnus redemit oves:
    Christus innocens Patri
    reconciliavit peccatores.
    Mors et vita duello
    conflixere mirando:
    dux vitae mortuus,
    regnat vivus.
    Dic nobis Maria,
    quid vidisti in via?
    Sepulcrum Christi viventis,
    et gloriam vidi resurgentis:
    Angelicos testes,
    sudarium, et vestes.
    Surrexit Christus spes mea:
    praecedet suos in Galilaeam.
    Scimus Christum surrexisse
    a mortuis vere:
    tu nobis, victor Rex, miserere.
    Amen, Alleluia.
    English Text:
    (Literal)
    Let Christians offer sacrificial
    praises to the passover victim.
The lamb has redeemed the sheep:
    The Innocent Christ has reconciled
    the sinners to the Father.
    Death and life contended
    in a spectacular battle:
the Prince of life, who died,
    reigns alive.
    Tell us, Mary, what did
    you see on the road?
"I saw the tomb of the living Christ
and the glory of his rising,
    The angelic witnesses, the
    clothes and the shroud."
    "Christ my hope is arisen;
into Galilee, he will go before his own."
We know Christ is truly risen from the dead!
To us, victorious King, have mercy!
    Amen, Alleluia.

Fellow catholics, we can't let that musical tradition off ours disapear. This is trully beauty developed in millenia by our forefathers with technic and passion. Treat it like the treasure that it is

Majestueux, comme toute la musique à Notre Dame de Paris. Pourquoi donc toutes les paroisses de France ne prennent-elles pas modèle, plutôt que de chanter de l'Akepsimas et du Gianada ? 😐

Rather surprising that they didn't use the three successive ascendant key Alleluia which is typical for Holy Saturday night, after the Sequence, but simply a normal Gospel Acclamation Alleluia.

i thought on the Easter Sunday they use normal Gospel Alleluia?

@@rainerbkartika ua-cam.com/video/KtRQA-aLBoA/v-deo.html the triple Alleluia, with ascendant key, is what the choir I was in 30 years ago used. However, we followed it with the standard Alleluia, whereas the video I reference here follows it with the Easter hymn 'Ye Sons and Daughters' which has an Alleluia at the end of each line and a triple Alleluia preceding each line.
Of course, if a parish doesn't HAVE someone who can handle the increasing pitch of the Easter Vigil/Holy Saturday Acclamation, I guess they're sort of stuck... :)

@@johndeltuvia7892 the other comment is right: the ascendant one is specific for the easter night mass. at day mass there is the sequence and a normal alleluia

This is just a small taste of the multiple celebratory services that will inaugurate the newly restored Notre Dame.
I know it's supposed to be in 2024, but that seems like too short of a time to complete the new roof and spire.
