It's amazing how hard these people work. For years and years and years, like olympic athletes. Never giving up, continuing to go for it, trying and trying. It's just so inspiring how hard people work to become the artists they eventually become. I mean, they work this intensely starting at around age 10 to 12 and continue with this kind of attention to detail and this intensity, constantly. It makes me appreciate them all the more when I see what it takes to become a top singer. Wow.

So true... I want people to notice how hard every single one of artists works on their craftsmanships.. it always amazed me.. and sadly so many places to share still...I hope someday classical music has another renaissance. so many musicians have the chance to share whatever they have. Thank you so much for noticing.. it means a lot; truly...

They don’t start at 10. It’s more like 13-15 for females and 16-17 for males. If anything is happening before then it’s mainly choral or cutesy musical theatre. Boys don’t have any clarity before 15 due to puberty changing literally everything.

I enjoy watching these masterclasses a lot. Joyce, besides being very skilled at teaching and singing, is just a bundle of good energy. She really gets extatic when a pupil does something good. I love that.

Thx for correcting people's spelling. What an enrichment to the life of everybody.
Well. I wouldn't call these classes generally useless. It depends on pupil, teacher and setting. I have the sensation that for some singers it can be a push in the right direction. Receiving thoughts they never had or approaches they never thought of. For others though it may be just confusing and making them insecure.
Plus, these events also serve as an opportunity for networking. Which is also quite important I believe.
PLUS: DiDonato is an intelligent and skilled teacher who has very good imagery when explaining something.

Joyce is such a gifted teacher... BORN to teach! Amalia could not be more charming. Adam is lovely. 21:57 just makes me smile so big, no matter how many dozen times I play it. To understand opening, lifting, buzzing, etc. I watched the video (helps to watch ALL of them in this series) a few dozen times, with headphones that were turned up until I could easily hear the difference. Magic. She's taught a very gifted soprano who sings beautifully (I think my favorite out of all the master classes) how to touch an audience in the feels, lifting her performance skills and technique in such a way that lifts talent into mastery. These master classes will stay with these students for the entirety of their careers... if they're smart, and this one is. On a side note, WOW Joyce's hair cut and wardrobe - omg - love love love.

I agree. I think Joyce's master classes are the best. I watched some by Kiri and i was shocked at how forthright Kiri could be. She told one singer "ok now you are just droaning on and on. Put more life into it." Rene Fleming is a bit boring. Her exercise with the blowing through the straw is boring. But i think Joyce's masterclass with Jakub Orlinski is the best one.

I think there's a video on UA-cam of Robin Follman doing it. She was an opera star for about 25 years and starred in about 50 operas.
She stopped after being assaulted byva conductor and dealing with a lot of stalking, and removed almost all references to herself from the internet.
She is a soprano who has it all, and was always in high demand! She has several videos of her doing Mimi, where the acting and singing are just superb. Check it out.

@@Bumblebeebeebee it doesn’t take an expert to point out that that is what she’s teaching. LOL, get over yourself, dude. Modern opera teaches to sing with nasality, which is the traditional technique. It doesn’t mean they’re worse singers - in fact, a lot of them posses technical mastery over the their instruments - it just means that its full of nasal overtones.

@@augustjoseph629 nasality is not traditional technique. It's been despised since opera was born

@@Tkimba2 I meant to say “not the traditional technique.” 😂
And, “despised” is a strong word. It doesn’t allow for full projection and isn’t as healthy as the bel canto technique, for sure. However, it’s a common misconception that they cannot sing because they sing with nasality; that’s simply not true. They demonstrate a lot of control. But, it is not traditional opera - rather, something new that is intended to sound opera-like.

Her jaw is shaking in the top note near the end. That's not a good habit. It should resonate and vibrate freely.
Anyways it sounds fantastic. She is very good.

Its vibrating because it’s in a new place for her. It’ll take care of itself..
