    This car is terrific! Fine performance and a very nice interior. Fun car to drive. My wife and I are very pleased with our KIA Rio.

    I just drove the 6 speed manual base model LX. Nice car. Might buy it, very inexpensive and felt sure footed, quick (138 hp is damn good for a car in this class, and I felt it), handled great. I achieved 44 mpg at 60 MPH on the freeway. It was plenty fun. Decent outward vision. I loved the look of the dash. The quality was good. I don't care that the doors were plastic, it felt well made. I like the manual windows. ONLY wish I had was that Blue Tooth was included in the stock car. I would trust this more than a Fiesta long term. Rear seat was quite comfortable. I would normally opt for a hatchback, however for some reason to get a stick on the Rio they require the LX sedan. Also, visibility was good enough, and from what I am reading it is better in the sedan than the hatch. Usually that is the other way around.

    the noise is due to gasoline direct injection high pressure fuel pUMP on cam shaft, it was actually very quiet for the non GDI 1.6 a few years back

      djkenny $10,700 included destination and prep. Taxes and licensing additional. I bought it on TrueCar.com. I have the most basic model and really like it. I look forward to driving it everyday because of the manual transmission and handling. It’s not fast off the line, but does well on fwy. Average fuel economy 35-38 mpg. 10 year 100,000 mile power train warranty is a plus. 5 year 60,000 bumper to bumper too.

    • @djkenny1202
      @djkenny1202 7 років тому

      Just drove one. It was pretty peppy. Even around town was not bad. I found the steering and handling impressive. The 6 speed manual is quite nice. The dash was good looking and had nice materials. I am also looking at the Base model LX. Only omission for me was lack of Blue Tooth and Power Door Locks. But, for what it DOES offer, under 11K? I don't know if other cars are worth looking at. A Fiesta S does come with the Blue Tooth and Keyless Entry fob. But I think Kia will hold up better. Much better warranty, too. The rear seat was comfy. I can only get white, but I figure it is a low maintenance color. I think you can add Blue Tooth aftermarket. Best Buy or what not. I could also just go to a stereo shop and get power door locks likely. I got up to 44 mpg keeping it at 60 mph. That Sold me more. I was not going to consider it if it was less than 42 MPG on the freeway at 60. I was at 35 mpg in town. So, OTD with Taxes and Lic it was just over 11k? We have no state Tax. I am looking at $10,700 as my max offered. Otherwise, I may consider a 2 yr old EV or a new Fiesta base model for about the same amount in hatchback form.

    • @voltecrules624
      @voltecrules624 7 років тому

      djkenny you are spot on with everything you wrote. I wish I had Bluetooth too, and power door locks, but I love the plainness of the vehicle. It reminds me of the way cars used to be. I saw a review that said the Kia Rio base model feels like an expensive car without accessories, rather than a cheap car. One reason I think the car has pep and handling is that it only ways 2,500 lbs and to load it down with accessories may effect that??? One thing, my sales experience at Kia was not great. Be prepared for a fight, even with a TrueCar deal. They also tried to charge me extra in the finance office ($600). Watch them. Also, they sold me a 2017 model, but it was built over a year ago 8/16. Try to get the newest vehicle they have.

    • @djkenny1202
      @djkenny1202 7 років тому

      It was a 2016? Or just likely sitting a while? At $10,700 OTD, I don't think I can go wrong if it is a brand new car. I really like manual windows and can likely live with the locks. I can only get red over tan/black, or the white over black (the one I am likely going for). With kids, the lack of power windows and locks is not fantastic. But, brand new car that drives so nice? The crash tests look good, too. I do like the rearview camera on my wife's Forester, but her car was also double the cost. I like that the dash is so uncluttered and clean. Not a lot of extra stuff I likely won't miss. I am paying CASH. I have not bought a car since I bought a 92 VW GTI 16v used in 99. I just saved up for something under 11k. I think this is worth $1000ish over a heavily discounted Versa $9800 OTD. Those seem like a poorly made car. The controls and plastics felt terrible.

    I'm a first-time buyer who has been looking at the Kia Rio lately mainly because it is a nice size for me and I like the price for it. I'm satisfied with the millage and the safety reviews. But I'm planning on moving to Michigan soon and my fiance keep commenting that a compact car will be awful in the snow. I really love the feel of the Rio so far and most of the cars he's recommended have felt too big for me and I'm finding a mixture of reviews on how the Rio handles snow. Would you happen to have a little more information on how it handles rough weather?

      Do not buy the Kia Río 2016. When you hit the brakes abruptly even you are driving low milleage, it tend to vibrate and slide, and loose brakes. Thank God whenever this happen, there is no cars in front of me. Other wise I could crash and cause a terrible accident. It also tends to slide and loose balance. When you pass over a small bump, dirt or small rocks; it sounds like if you had ran into a crater or if your suspension and shock absorber has no quality. All these happenings started ever since I bought the car.

  • @Rinifi
    @Rinifi 8 років тому +1

    Just rented one for a few days. It has four wheels and an engine. That's about the size of it. Steering was loose and imprecise. Handling was sloppy with a lot of under steer and a big turning circle. The suspension couldn't handle road imperfections at all. You'd better keep two hands on the wheel at all times with this puppy between the bad suspension system and steering systems. It never wanted to go in a straight line and was very susceptible to cross winds. Not very fun to drive. Outward visibility was poor since it had the small windows so characteristic of today's automotive styling. Also you felt like you were sitting at the bottom of a pit in the rear seats and front passenger seat. Not good for watching the scenery float by. The driver's seat was adjustable but the headrests push your head forward annoyingly. My wife couldn't stand it anymore so she removed hers. All it all, it got me to where I wanted to go and I was able to pass U-Haul trucks on the freeway. Enough said.

    • @djkenny1202
      @djkenny1202 7 років тому +2

      Man, you must have driven a different car than I did? I thought the Rio I just drove was sure footed, zippy, handles great with pretty direct steering. For an economy car it was downright sporty. Turning circle is not class leading, but good.

    Do not buy a Kia. These things depreciate like no other vehicle. We purchased a 2014 Kia Rio LX new in 2014 and it has already lost more than 50% of it's original value. We also have a Honda Civic and a Subaru Impreza and neither of them have lost more than 20% of their value. If you lease one of these you'll be completely screwed as the vehicle will be worth less than the three year residual at the end of 24 months. Don't be fooled by the price, go with a Toyota, Honda or Subaru, they will hold a much higher percentage of their original value over time.
