I seen the film The Southerner several times and Mildred Pierce I’ve always been a great admirer of his talent The Southerner is my favorite. I was a great fan of his and I watched all his films. I think I’ve missed a few that you mentioned. I’ll have to go back and look.
Thanks for the recommendation. This is not a movie I would have picked just watching a trailer- thoroughly enjoyed this one. And as expected, Zachary Scott played the dog we are used to him playing! He was very entertaining to watch in this. Thanks again!
Thought Scott was oily-but-sexy as the smooth playboy in "Mildred Pierce," then later I saw him in "The Southerner" and had to reevaluate Scott's considerable talent. What a great 1945 for him, which should have, as Steve mentions, led to a much bigger movie career!
Enfim...🙏RIP🙏
@@FromBeneathTheHollywoodSign ~ That's because he worked for the 'assembly line' Warner Bros. Studios that mostly did stories with stereotypical, superficial, rather than 3 dimensional characters. Because of the ironic glint in his eye, his smarmy smile and disquieting sneer he excelled in villainous roles, both in film-noir and westerns. He knew how to die with aplomb, too, so they simply type cast him as scoundrels and bandits, who were most often killed in a sensational way.
Zachary Scott always reminded me of my brother-in-law. Handsome✔. Mustache✔. Seducer✔. Swindler✔. The only difference was...my brother-in-law was not an actor. He was the real deal. Zachary's wife divorces him for another man; he nearly drowns; he has a concussion. A state depression is not surprising.
Hey you guys, you forgot to mention one of his most excellent characterizations. "The Young One" is Luis Buñuel's, 1960 vintage, forgotten masterpiece -- in which Zachary Scott was given another chance to stretch his acting skills as 'Miller' a salacious bigot. It's well worth a watch.....
The amount of detail and emotion you all pack into these focused deep dives is incredible. I love this podcast and am so excited whenever I get notified of a new episode. My watch list and reading list quake in fear of the incoming onslaught of additions to them 😂
A fantastic character actor...
And Star!!!
When he appears on screen
Everyone else may as well...
Born too early...A today personality.
I totally agree!! 🙂

He was such a good actor!

Excellent in both "Milderd Pearce" and "Bandido".

I totally agree. Hollywood didn't quite use him as well as they could have.
