Money. Why do you think during every chapter review he promotes- "a new video coming next week so stay tuned." He didn't use to do that in the past. It really make me wonder how some of these channels on UA-cam can revolve around one singular piece of media. One Piece is great, but how many videos can you make before it gets repetitive. The lore instead that damn deep and detailed it can sustain 20 years of videos. I've seen people doing this with Star Wars, Avatar, Bleach, Naruto. Being passionate and making cool theories about something you love is great, but when that passion turns into an obsession... you get nonsensical videos, misleading thumbnails and click bait titles. They're not beating a dead horse. They keep trying to reviving it, so they can beat to death some more. Money becomes the main goal, instead of quality content. If your wallet is financial drained, go get a day job like everybody else whose working on their dream. Go move back in with your parents and go to college for a degree you can actually use. Make some coin, save it, invest it, save some more, and then get back to work. It's easier said than done, but at least you're moving five steps forward instead of ten steps back.
Usopp disagrees that the Samurai tradition is the best thing ever. Personally, I think he is just annoyed by the fact the samurai want to just die there and not let him help them. Luffy has the same logic, in Enieslobby he says to Robin "If you want to die just let me save you first then die later". Surprisingly, you can see a lot of usopp in Izo. After this quote Izo agree with what Usopp say because he has been outside Wano and is not really a round traditional samurai like he use to be. However, he chooses to die and sacrifice himself in the end. The meaning of these scene is'' to keep surviving until you have a reason to die, don't pointlessly dying"
I'm confident that this is what Oda wanted to show us. If Usopp unlocks Conqueror's haki, it will probably be due to him no longer being afraid of death
yep, i don't undestand those who criticize him for telling to nami to lie to ulti, like wtf he had no ways to save her, he tried the only path they apparently had, luffy and any of the strawhats would have complimented them if it worked (assuming ulti wasn't going to kill her anyways), luffy would not tolerate nami dying just to exalt his own name, she did it anyways and its a great moment as she showed pride and her loyalty, but it was a desition of her own to do that, most ppl does not understand that and shit talks usopp

Is it just coincidence that since Little Garden, every arc that has a significant moment for Usopp also has a giant in it? Water 7/Enis Lobby - Oimo and Kashii, Thriller Bark - Oars, Dressrosa - Hajrudin. Is it also true that giants are in the majority of OP arcs after Little Garden? Yea, but my point still stands lol
I've never said this before but Usopp is one of my favorite characters. If he doesn't get some kind of significant storyline in Elbaf, it's going to make the story of One Piece substantially worse for me... Please Oda, I'm literally begging you. Don't drop the ball on this one 🙏🙏🙏

Im so genuinely confused why i see so many people assuming Shanks and his crew will be on Elbaf. They were leaving when we last saw them, they almost certainly imo will not be there during the arc
Yassop might hang behind for some reason or another, but then again, he may not. That's about the only exception I could see. There is otherwise no reason for them to still be on Elbaf.

I hate the hate for Usopp's character, but I also understand it. If I can relate to any of the Strawhats it's Usopp, which makes me feel uncomfortable. People criticize that Usopp backslides a lot along the journey but that is the biggest reason he's the most human of all the Strawhats. None of us grow at a steady ascent, we stumble often and sometimes have great falls. Usopp has more ups and downs than most characters and that makes his journey more relatable.
People who hate Usopp are just delusional self inserting power scaler. In the real world, people hardly ever change and always tend to fall back into old habits. This makes Usopp so interesting compared to most other shonen characters.
@@JamariBinns-f7q his character is just not my type of anime trope. Constantly running and crying. Weak. Not a strategist. It’s okay if it cool for some he’s just not for me
I really hope that Elbalf can deliver. I’m a huge fan of Norse mythology and one of Oda’s biggest influences for One Piece was Vicky the Viking which coincidentally also inspired Vinland Saga Mangaka, Makoto Yukimura.
ONE PIECE has so many great characters. Usopp is still my favorite. He is by far the most relatable. His fears, his insecurities, his actions and physical attributes
I think Usopp dying in Elbaf would be perfect for his character on sooooo many levels as long as he smiles saying he's finally a brave warrior of the sea.
I think him returning to his girl is incredible important to completing his character arc. I feel like after one piece ends, it would be awesome for him to reunite with her, as an actual brave warrior of the sea, where all his stories are actually true.
I think you misunderstand both Usopp telling Nami to lie and Usopp's speech about clinging to life. Starting with what he told Nami, it's clear he said that because he didn't want Nami to die. While Usopp would (and already has) been willing to die to defend the dreams of his captain, he's not going to force Nami to live by those same standards. The entire crew already believes Luffy will be King of the Pirates, there was no need for Nami to risk her life other than pride. That's what makes Nami's moment so beautiful because it shows how much pride she has in her captain's dream, just like when Usopp did the same in Alabasta. In regards to Usopp's speech about clingling to life, in a vacuum it does come off as cowardly, but in the context of the scene itself and the broader themes of the Wano arc, it's about not giving up in the face of death instead of fearing it. The reason Usopp told Kin & Kiku to live was because they had a death wish and had essentially given up on life for the sake of it. Since they failed to save Oden, the Scabbards all resolved to die honorable deaths as a way to repent for their blunder, which goes against Oden's entire reason for saving them in the first place: to live. This is an example of something that's been reiterated in the story time and time again: that throwing your life away for the sake of honor and not anything substantial like your dreams is foolish. It's just like when Luffy stopped Sanji from sacrificing himself to repay his debt to Zeff. Interestingly, Usopp's speech seemingly parallels when Luffy told Brogy not to go duel Dorry after he got sabotaged by Mr. 3. Despite Luffy's warnings, Brogy chose to go into battle for the sake of his honor and nearly died because of this. Pretty interesting that Usopp wasn't there to see this. These two scenes don't indicate that Usopp is meant to conquer his fear of death, but it seems much more likely that they indicate that Usopp will challenge the nature of honor in both giant society and the pirating world. Since much of what Usopp believes to be brave is based on these principles, it could help change his perspective of what bravery is and help him understand his own bravery.
I'm not sure Luffy has much time left after he finds the OP with 2 Hormone Injections (-20 years) G2 blood pumping and the other gears above 2 will have taken their toll on his body could mirror Rogers end
Honestly that’s what makes Usopp one of the greatest characters ever written. Like you said in the intro it’s not what we as watchers / readers think, or what other characters think of him; the accomplishment of his dream comes down to if he thinks he did it or not. And that in of itself adds a whole other level to his character that is very rare to see anywhere else. Amazing analysis brother 🫡
Great vid Morj. I will say I disagree with characterizing Usopp in Wano as a “bad look” or a “low point”. Usopp was used to counter the arguably toxic and nigh-suicidal mentality of the samurai. He’s willing to risk his life for his friends, but he still finds his life precious! Unlike the samurai, he fights to LIVE, not die. And keep in mind that he gives his speech after he sought the two of them out, came to their rescue, and was fighting off a mob to help comrades who both insisted on laying down and dying “honorably”. It’s easy to miss because Oda drew very little attention to it, but that was one of the bravest acts we’ve seen Usopp perform in the series. And even on panel that moment is framed as Usopp having made a strong point. Ultimately, Kiku and Kinemon survived the raid because Usopp valued all 3 of their lives. Usopp is afraid of death but that’s not a bad thing! It’s the very thing that makes him brave! Usopp’s fear of death is something that distinguishes him, but I don’t think it’s something that he needs to overcome per se. I think Usopp will come to terms with fearing death as long as he doesn’t let it deter him, which would be completely in line with his statements in Wano. His real problem, as you hinted at in your video, is his confidence. I think Elbaf will be more about Usopp’s self-actualization and his realization that he really has been enough the whole time. His version of a brave warrior may be different than Luffy or Zoro or an Elbaf giant, but will be a brave warrior nonetheless.
@@aleccampbell7707 I agree. I just don’t think that advancement has to be that he becomes a different person. I think Morj is right that Usopp is ripe for a haki bloom, but for different character reasons.
I do. One Piece has always been criticize for its lack of character deaths but when they do it, they hit. Usopp dying to protect the crew will literally elevate the series.
@@DHworldwide185 I want the Strawhat that does to be Brook. It would be like him joining his old crew when he felt like he left them behind by surviving due to his DF. Usopp needs to return to Kaya and tell her stories that actually happened, that she won’t believe.
I agree. It doesn’t make sense for Usopp to die as he simply isn’t cut out for it. Him coming full circle and realizing that what he has done so far without acknowledgement from the giants already makes him a warrior (or alternatively that he is fine not being a true warrior) and being content with that would be much more cathartic
@@DHworldwide185 I don't think he will tho he doesn't have to die to prove himself as a great warrior of the sea. Oda also likes to keep the characters alive cus he wants the arcs to finish of on a happy end. The only one that hit was Ace and whitebeards the others have been dissapointing
I've waited 14-15 years for this Arc. Unlike Zoro or Franky, none of them ever declared the recent islands as the land of their dreams. This is honestly make or break for me when it comes to One Piece and I believe with all my being that, Oda will do us JUSTICE!

I don’t know about you guys, but the first Usopp scene I watched was on Arlong Park, with Luffy saying he had a swordsman, a cook, a navigator and a liar. Seeing him cowering up and winning his cowardice, even in a cowardly way, set him as my favorite character from the get-go. So yes, he already have achieved his goal, even before entering the Grand Line
Usopp meeting his father will change him in a major way. All this "brave warrior of the sea" exists because of his father. Meeting his father will definitely bring some kind of deep trauma in Usopp.
THIS is what I needed to start getting hype for Elbaf!! Thank you for reminding me of the themes and writing that Oda has laid out to set up such a powerful storyline. It’s about to get emotional!
If you think of the adv. conquerors haki we've seen so far as conquerors + armament, it would be cool if Usopp was the first straw hat to get conquerors + observation.
What makes one piece great for me is videos like this and all other supplementary media that is produced. If oda delivers on these or not is not known today, but i can visualize everything Morj said in this video and I am buzzing with anticipation as to how story will unfold
Morj, if you watch this video paying close attention to the things you're saying, you'll have the funny surprise that you are actually contradicting yourself 🤓 If we think about Usopp having to face the root of his failures and why his fantasy of a brave warrior is not exactly a good one, the logic step would be for him to have the strength to accept himself the way he is, not giving in to that "omagaaa I need to be fearless in the face of death to be a man"
Great video. I can definitely see this being used in a Usopp's character Arc in the upcoming Elbaf Arc. I even think that this could even be used for characters like: - Buggy, who isn't entirely different from Usopp when in comes to self worth. - Hancock, when it comes to having people accept the real her for who she is instead of what she is often portrayed as.
Blackbeard being responsible for killing Luffy's brother Ace AND his best friend Usopp would make Luffy vs Blackbeard the most personal fight of the story!
Ussop wants to be a brave warrior because he wants fear and insecurity to disapear. He doens´t know that the brave are the ones who fear, but do the things. He is already brave. If his fear disappears, he is no longer brave, he would just be suicidal.
One of the most fitting conclusion for Usopp's story arc, based on everything we saw in One Piece, is to die on a fight with a smile on his face to help someone else. It's the sign of a great resolve even for those who aren't D. (Oden, Hiluluk), it overcomes his biggest fear and it's the best death a nordic warrior can have. Doesn't need to be in Elbaf, can be close to the end of the story.
Oda generally doesn’t write arcs typically where 1 guy is simple the focus of the entire thing. This happened basically in Enies Lobby, Whole Cake Island and Arlong Park explicit, where largely it focused on the rescue of these specific characters and expanded heavily on their backstories and the like. I do think Usopp will feature heavily in Elbaf, as Oda has already had him speak to Dorry and Broggy, and has actually set this up for Usopp years in the making. But I think fans are preparing for letdowns with HCs like the arc will only revolve around him. This is a very large story, that’s unlikely to happen.
7:06 see I’m going a different route than Morj here , the way I see it is Loki will be Usopps “definitive battle” that he very well may lose in but the events leading up to it and the end result will show Usopp he finally is that brave warrior of the sea he’s always wanted to be .
I would not be surprised he dies but is revived by Chopper or someone else and has a Gandolf moment. Where he saw what the other side is like and isn't afraid no more of dying going forward. I'd even have him see his mother again in his near-death experience.
I honestly want a panel of Usopp punching Yasopp. Showing the growth of being a sniper, “bravery” for hitting a Yonkos crew, and giving that pay back for the abandonment. Plus showing how “tough” he is to his father, like the stories have made Yasopp think his son is
2022: Egghead will be the Franky arc, finally his big moment for character growth 2024: Elbaf will be the Usopp arc, finally his big moment for character growth
NGL I respect the hustle but as someone who struggles to listen to podcasts and started listening to your videos because of your deep cuts and analytical takes, hearing you put some of those behind a paywall doesn't feel great. Whatever you hold back seems to not be super important to the point you're making so "its fine" but idk you've been dropping more lines like that in other videos and feels a bit manipulative. All good though, excited for your upcoming arc analysis. ✌
Two things Oda has to show us. 1) Usopp outperforming Yasopp in sniping, and 2) Observation haki sniping Van auger every location he teleports to, instantly getting smacked in the face with a snipe.
Really good video with excelent points, many I believe will become true in Elbaf. My only problem is the constant use you make of the panel of Usopp saying he will cling to life in chapter 1036. In the broader context of that panel Usopp is actually defending a wounded Kinemon and Kiku from mutiples beast pirate goons. His line is more about motivating the fallen scarbards to keep on living, saying that just fighting the battle is not enough. Is a really powerful moment and Oda even uses his traditional "DOOOM" sound effect in the background. In the same page Izou shows up to save the day and praises Usopp for his words.
I hope we get a deeper dive into Usopp's psychology, especially his abandonment by his dad. He has experienced the loyalty of his found family, I feel like his perspective of Yasopp will be different compared to pre-timeskip. Seeing Yasopp's anxiety about meeting his son, and how meeting Luffy is bigger on the Red Haired Crews' is more central than one of their top commanders and his son, gets me thinking that Usopp is gonna see a different kind of cowardice when he meets his father again.
14:50 I wouldn't be surprised if this situation comes to pass but only from Usopp's perspective. While someone else comes to "save him," reminding him that luffy isn't going to be king without him.
Usopp getting Conquerors is something many of us figured would happen. If he gets a shanks comparison when he unleashes it prepare for the online wars😂
I commented this on another video but I feel that Usopp is gonna have a “David and Goliath” type of arc in Elbaf and hopefully get that Observation Haki that was teased back in Dressrosa.
Usopp is the most real strawhat by design and that even reflects in his dream, he doesn't desire wealth, fame or power but simply to consider himself a brave warrior of the sea his journey is more of self discovery and confronting his own internal struggles being that he views himself as weak and part of the weakling trio. A confident usopp is what it will take for him to control his observation haki and a confident usopp will be crazy strong. The reason luffy is so strong is because when confronted with fear he doesn't buckle but instead chooses to face it head on and bring the dawn, very similar to zoro as well doesn't matter how beat up he is, he'll fight till he's dead if he has to and always strives to be stronger and puts in the effort
You know what bothers me the most? The arc can have a major development for Usopp, but maybe not as well. As the literature legend Charles Dickens once said - “Great Expectations if misplaced can often lead to Great Disappointment” People thought the same for Zoro in Wano and Franky in Egghead- if your a StrawHat and your name’s not Luffy or Sanji then your character peaked pre-timeskip.
I don't think you really understand this my friend. Zoro in wano was indeed disappointing, tbh I didn't care much if franky got upgrades or something and didn't have any expectations. Now. There is a huge difference between usopp in elbaf and the other two cases. That is that elbaf IS where he will achieve his dream. Oda wouldn't fumble none of the SH dreams cause he has that planned since the beggining. If usopp didn't shine it would be the same as luffy not achieving whatever dream he has. Or zoro not fighting mihawk. If we indeed do not get any big usopp stuff in elbaf then oda just fumbled the entire series. I will trust him
This isn’t true. Tons of character moments have come after timeskip that’s a myth. But I think One Piece fans fail to understand these are largely static characters, with pretty only slightly round arcs. Characters aren’t supposed to grow drastically for the entirety of the story. At some point they become the people they will be until the end. I’ve only heard this stuff claimed for One Piece. None of the SHs are the exact people they were when we met them. Most of the biggest change has happened already. And Franky did get a lot moments in Egghead, it just was never his arc. His connection to Vegapunk is only passive.
Am i the only one who thinks his dream might actually be connected to the last big battle instead. He might just realize it in elbaf. Because it doesnt feel satisfying if the final arc ender and usopp is just hanging around with his resolve drained already from his dream being complete in elbaf.
usopp likely doesn't see himself as brave yet because even though he does brave things, he is still scared while doing them. he likely has an idealised version of what a brave warrior is based on how he imagines his dad, as someone who is never scared of anything. I think usopp will discover that the reason that his dad never came back to see him or his mother was that he was too afraid of the idea of being a father. and this revelation will be the key for usopp to realise that even the bravest warriors are scared sometimes, and that usopp is actually braver than all of them because he faces his fears rather than runs from them
Luffy meeting Shanks is not anymore that farfetch, it has higher chances to meet at Elbaf than Dragon doing something finally 😆 besides looking the horizon which he likes to do

I think Usopp dying in Elbaf would be perfect for his character on sooooo many levels as long as he smiles saying he's finally a brave warrior of the sea.

So well said!
Some of the most substantial Usopp points made I've seen!

Can't believe Morj is out here trying to rizz up ai Nami 😭
Oda is never gonna kill off a strawhat
Right bro like if Oda can’t kill Pell or Pagaya, no way in hell is he gonna kill Usopp.
Usopp seemed underpowered in Wano he needs some advancement in character or strength
@@aleccampbell7707 I agree. I just don’t think that advancement has to be that he becomes a different person.

Morj's sponsorships are low key hilarious 😂
Tbh, I don't think Loki will even be a giant. He's a ruler out of sight and no on has ever seen him. He is a trickster
I honestly want a panel of Usopp punching Yasopp. Showing the growth of being a sniper, “bravery” for hitting a Yonkos crew, and giving that pay back for the abandonment. Plus showing how “tough” he is to his father, like the stories have made Yasopp think his son is

I wouldn't be surprised if this situation comes to pass but only from Usopp's perspective. While someone else comes to "save him," reminding him that luffy isn't going to be king without him.

I thought the red hair pirates were shown sailing away from Elbaf very recently? In chapter 1121.
The first thing Ussop will do when meeting his father is condemn him for leaving him and his mom and demand that he explain himself.
I commented this on another video but I feel that Usopp is gonna have a “David and Goliath” type of arc in Elbaf and hopefully get that Observation Haki that was teased back in Dressrosa.
That in video ad, Morj sold out
Usopp is the most real strawhat by design and that even reflects in his dream, he doesn't desire wealth, fame or power but simply to consider himself a brave warrior of the sea his journey is more of self discovery and confronting his own internal struggles being that he views himself as weak and part of the weakling trio.

Has no one been paying attention, Shanks will not be at Elbalf.. bro literally said I was on my way out when he ran into Kid, he was leaving!!!!
Honestly the top 1 thing I want to happen in Elbaf is a Sogeking comeback
As the literature legend Charles Dickens once said - “Great Expectations if misplaced can often lead to Great Disappointment”
People thought the same for Zoro in Wano and Franky in Egghead- if your a StrawHat and your name’s not Luffy or Sanji then your character peaked pre-timeskip.
Granted, here with all the build-up, the Expecations are understandable
His connection to Vegapunk is only passive.
cornball do yall even like one piece?
