I have a FoodSaver Compact II model that I love and the heat strip isn't heating or sealing. It was fine...then suddenly stopped heating/sealing. I don't see any heat seal strips that resemble replacements...or any obvious way to replace it. Can someone help? Thank you!

I had the same problem. Most of the time it just needs a thorough cleaning. If the pump is not pulling enough of a vacuum, the strip won't come on to seal it. The tape strips they are showing, are just covers for the metal heat element.

there's a fish odor coming from my foodsaver even after the tray has been removed and cleaned.....could liquid have leaked into the guts of the machine? Amny suggestions on how to open and clean?

It would be nice if you actually gave instructions for removing the old gasket!

No instructions are needed... the gaskets literally sit in their respective grooved channels where they're inlaid. There's nothing to it... they're not inserted nor removed in any special way... you simply pull them out. (Unless your Foodsaver is a model with a permanently-attached gasket(s)... those are firmly glued in place and can't be changed (from what I understand, according to Foodsaver). However for all the others models which have replaceable gaskets (that's most, or almost all of them) they simply pull out easily.
I don't see how else to explain that any more basically, nor elaborately, to provide actual "instructions" as there's really only one way to take them out or put them back in. I don't see any room for 'creative interpretations' nor any imaginable experimentation (and I AM trying to imagine! lol)
It's kinda like trying to answer the question: "How do I pick up the glass that's on that table?"
"ummm, well... just, pick it up maybe??... yeah, with your hands... exactly, just like that!" ;) hehe
(For what it's worth, and despite my inability to resist a little friendly sarcasm, I hope that helped anyways) :)
