To clear up some misinformation, the siren heard is a Modulator 6024B. The old EOWS 1212 at Leilani Estates was replaced by the MOD before this video was even filmed. Hawai’i uses the “Whoop” tone as their Hazmat signal.
It is a Federal Signal EOWS-1212 with the optional "whoop" sound chip. The sound chip is normally not installed in FS's standard sirens, so that's why it sounds different.
There's a good topography map of Leilani that shows the cinder cones and flows that popped out in 1955. Also here on utube search: Lyman House Museum/Kapoho/1955 to see some excellent film in black and white
my thoughts are with you who live on the big island of Hawai'i I hope that lava stops and doesn't reach any homes in the Leilani estates, and other areas too. just think positive and don't panic you will all be okay, at least you are safe everything can be replaced but make sure you have all your papers file and everything important and family heirloom get those, and what can be saved grab it and go make sure you get your pets out of the area too horses and all of that. my thoughts will be on all of you this week,

That siren going off is eerie. Very different sounding compared to a tornado or severe weather warning siren.
