This is so hilarious! It really brightened up my day. I'm an inmate in a Michigan Nursing Home. I did say inmate. I'm housed in a Nursing Home. We residents are funding the owners' private yachts, their private jets, and their Rolex collections. While the owners of several nursing homes dine on caviar, we dine on what looks like diarrhea with a side of peas. While their wesite says we are served "fine dining, delicious food," we are actually served varying kinds of glop on top of glob. For Christmas dinner, we again had, diarrhea but peas were not on the side, the peas were mixed in. Listening to this dog conversation about a kitten, was very delightful. It cheered me up immensely.

My friend was "incarcerated" in one of these "care facilities". She had been an active citizen before she became immobilised via a neurological disease. What you said about the food was absolutely correct. On several occasions I was visiting her at lunchtime and was appalled and perturbed at the inferior quality of what passed as food. I couldn't even discern what was what on her plate. It was not the case that she couldn't chew; in her 90's she had all her teeth (bar one canine) so did not qualify for macerated slops. Most of the care staff were brought to Australia, in bulk, as it were, from places as diverse as Nepal, Sri Lanka etc. For convenience sake, all inmates had nappies (diapers) as the wait time after ringing for assistance to go to the toilet, was half an hour at least. The care facility kept staff to the barest minimum to save on costs and only one person in the whole home was a qualified State Registered Nurse, the rest, from overseas, had language barriers and insufficient training as far as I could discern. The doctor, when on her infrequent visits, only popped her head around the door to ask if she was OK. Each room she visited with the same outcome, was billed at the full rate to Medicare. Having witnessed first hand how our elderly are "warehoused", I am firmly of the opinion if the Canadian MAID system was available in Australia it would be the better option.
You can complain to your state's department of nursing homes -- whatever it's called. I was in one for 2 weeks because I had a broken leg and no one at home to help. They encouraged me to deposit all my cash with them for safety, which I did; then I could not get it out when I was leaving. I heard that the day after I left the place was swamped with inspectors.
