Love that Fife-iness 😂I'm glad you liked this one too (phew!). Bright, sharp and vibrant is always in my wheelhouse. I think we're getting a lot of great whisky from new distilleries these days. Traditionally you would be taking your chances buying anything from a young distillery but many of them now are putting out surprisingly great stuff. And I think Kingsbarns is really up there. And it's the best STR whisky I've ever had - usually not a fan! Great review and thanks for the mention! 🥃
Hi Geoff, agree with You on this one, we really liked this whisky and were pleasantly surprised as well. I actually gave it a 87 as well😅. I'm looking forward for trying more stuff from them. I'm loving these lowlands malts from distilleries such as Kingsbarns and Bladnoch. Cheers bud!!!
I like this dram. One can realy taste the quality of the grain and casks. I´m looking forward to when they start putting out age stated stuff. Thank you for bringing this whisky to the spot light.
I got a bottle of this on your recommendation. At first it did feel a little sharp and hot. Letting it rest a month or so in the opened bottle, pour one, add some water, rest a little and this is excellent! Sharp but not too much and a lot of taste. Thanks for spreading the message! Might get one for backup or even save a few years til they launch one with an age statement!
An absolutely stunner of a dram and am sad to see this is coming to it's final days ready to be replaced. Great review with great jokes as always! Cheers Geoff!
Great review! I live in Kingsbarns and one would say I might be a bit biased, but I do love the distillery profile, especially all their bourbon and STR wine matured - not so much their sherried stuff. Dream to dram got very recently discontinued and replaced by their latest expression Doocot, which has the same cask composition, abv, etc but is slightly older at around 7-8yo (still a NAS).
Thanks for filling me in! Really looking forward to the Doocot. Agree about the distillery profile. Beautiful stuff. I haven't tried anything else from them, so I can't comment on their sherried stuff, but I will say it's the type of profile that works well as a clean and bright distillate. Cheers! 🥃
Good review. I loved this bottle. It is a great whisky to unwind, simple, yet without sacrificing character. Pro tip- Makes for a delish highball with a wedge of orange! 😊
By coincidence I had a bottle of Kingsbarn newmake (from back before they could sell whisky) and it is very neatly cut. Quite low "grappa" favours for a new make and a surprisingly low malt flavor. Definitely distilled to be ready soon, with the trade off for what I expect will be all cask no distillery identity well before 8 year old. Think I need to try some actual whisky.
Sipping the Docoot while watching this review and I can find all the notes your described just way more pronounced probably even some brown sugar in this. Hope you can find it and try it soon my friend 🥃🥃
Yeah I like this one as well just like the Classic Laddie. I've been a fan of Wemyss since I tried their first batch of Peat Chimney and Spice King Batch Strength blended malts and they did not disappoint with this one. Looking forward to more of their expressions! Cheers!
I always have to laugh 😂 when you do your jokes... It's a very special sense of humor you present. I don't know if it is allowed to say this, but that is always how I imagine what Taiwanese humor must look like! Sorry, didn't want to offend you and you're wrong regarding the classic Laddie - it IS young, hot and nothing I want to have on the shelf! 🤣🤣👍🏽
I love you list ten tasting notes and then say, "it's not too complex". I was also thinking Laddie when you said a "nice sharpness". Great comparison. "Hot and alcoholic"? We are all guilty of that accusation. I won't hold it against this new whisky.
Didn’t have high expectations for this one, but I quite enjoyed it! Another lowland “Kings” that was a very pleasant surprise was Kings Inch (from Glasgow). NAS but excellent specs with nice complexity. Ever tried it?
When you chose Classic Lad , I thought ..”Um ok , if Mr G says so ,it’s many years since I moved on from it , but we’ll try again “ And for a short time …I agreed it was sharp etc etc .But I quite liked it , a blast from the past ..A very sharp blast 👹 But now ..Oooo no I’m off it again , it’s not for me , too young / hot and ultimately I’ve decided ..Not to my taste ( for another 5 years 🤣) So NO Kings Barnes for me ..I’m too old and too smooth to invest in fire 🔥 water Great channel keep em coming 👍
The Laddie got better with time. Time in the bottle, time in the dram, and a generous teaspoon of water. Eager to try out Kingsbarns...if I can find it.
Kingsbarns recently launched 'Doocot' which essentially replaces Dream to Dram. I believe Doocot is the same whisky with a further 2 years maturation. The relevance of Fife barley is because Kingsbarns are in the county of Fife. So, what they're saying there is that they're using local barley.
Looking forward to teh Doocot. They're doing good things there. And yes... the Fyfe thing was a joke. I know they're going for local barley, which is commendable. 🥃
I have Dream to Dram, and I dont find it anything like Laddie. For me, Laddie is delicious, citrus juicy and salty, whereas Dream is all high notes. It takes me halfway through the dram to even begin to enjoy it. My second dram of it is always better, but It is just not for me. It only gets an 82 from me. I like the butterscotchy Deanston Virgin Oak way better than this, and it's half the price here in Alberta. As always, your content is fantastic, even when we don't align on the bottle! Slainte!
Actually there's something I forgot to include in the review. I've got a bottle from 2022, and it's excellent. My friend has an earlier bottle open and it's not nearly as good. I suppose that's unsurprising, as the distillery is very young, but it's an important factor that I should have included in the video. Thanks so much for watching, Arie. Cheers! 🥃
Yeah, whiskey is like shoes ... one size does not fit all. No accounting for the human palate. Like women, not all would be either ah suitable or proper mate. Need to try it/her first to find out what fits.
Oh dear!!!!!! Back to Classic Hot 🔥 Kingsbarn is about as exciting as watching grass grow. The next thing will be you suggesting mixing Kingsbarn with Classic Hot. Young and zesty???????? 😳 😳 😳 😳 Really???????

Like you I'm a fan of this and I love what Bladnoch is doing these days. Great minds think alike! 🥃
It sounds like a Lowland expression of the Isle of Raasay Hebredian.
I like this dram. One can realy taste the quality of the grain and casks. I´m looking forward to when they start putting out age stated stuff. Thank you for bringing this whisky to the spot light.
Might have to try a bottle. Sounds charming!
Thanks for reviewing Kingsbarns I've heard a lot about them but haven't tried any yet. Cheers!

Love your work, and the classic laddie.
Great pick, will try and give this a go.
Hah thanks Andy. I think it will deliver if you're a Laddie fan! 🥃
An absolutely stunner of a dram and am sad to see this is coming to it's final days ready to be replaced. Great review with great jokes as always! Cheers Geoff!
Cheers buddy! Looking forward to the Doocor replacement. A bit more age might elevate this to budget superstardom! 🥃

Hope so too, man! Looking forward to it. 🥃
Thanks for reviewing this one, Geoff
A distillery Ihave yet to try a whisky from.
Slàinte mhath
If you're coming it to the Classic Laddie, then I sure be up for trying it! Cheers Geoff.
Yeah it's a good one. Hope to hear your thoughts on this one someday! Hope you're doing ok Big Guy! 🥃

Apparently this is getting replaced with the "Doocot," which is older. Looking forward to trying that one! 🥃

Speaking as a hot alcoholic, I agree with everything you've said here. 🥃
Thanks for a new bottle! In Poland it costs about 45€. I think I’ll skip it ;).
Perfect dram- the quality, fife and not filtered!!
Actually had it shipped to US , but well worth it

I haven't seen that one sold in Taiwan yet, but I've been hearing good things. I'll keep an eye out for it! Cheers! 🥃

Hah I get it. It's not for everyone. I know plenty of enthusiasts who feel the same way. Matter of taste! Cheers, Allan! 🥃
The Laddie got better with time. Time in the bottle, time in the dram, and a generous teaspoon of water. Eager to try out Kingsbarns...if I can find it.
Good luck. It's a good one! 🥃

@@Gwhisky Hmm... Perhaps I am a victim of batch variation! Maybe I'll buy it again next year and see.
It's getting replaced by a newer older release called Doocot. Might be worth waiting to come across that one. Cheers!
I like this but their balcolmie is to my taste even better

Kingsbarns and Classic Laddie mix? Great idea, Cliff! 🥃
