THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING (Live, Fillmore West, 12/15/1969)
    (McDonald, Sinfield)
Disk 2 features the entire final concert by this lineup at Fillmore West on 15 December 1969. These recordings were made directly to an old stereo tape recorder from the mixing desk. The mixes are not representative of what an audience might have heard; for example, the guitar, which was no doubt very loud in the theatre, is often very quiet on the recording. The sound quality and energy levels on the original recordings are astonishingly poor. Fortunately developments in digital mastering techniques have made it possible to restore these tapes to their current condition.

Over 50 years may have passed but the alchemy these boys created still mesmerises the discerning listener .

This was by far their best and most interesting song. Nothing else like it.

Saw them 3 or 4 years later in Waterbury, CT....head full of you know what.... still remember being amazed at how Fripp could sound as good in person as on record. Agree.... drummer is spectacular. Love the flute... only 50+years ago.

Unleashed on that unsuspecting west coast hippie crowd. I bet they were mesmerized and stunned at the end of this song and had no idea what had they just experienced. Even today this sounds like nothing else and is so far ahead of its time it will never be old!!! The chemistry of these musicians and talent and the lyrics by Peter Sinfield..very deep!!! It was something never heard before ...and really ever since. Also sad that Gregg and Ian have passed on and we will never see them together ever again or hear them. I am glad these recordings have been posted. I was only 9 when this was performed and I can only imagine what it would have been like to see the band live.

Epic, alluring, pastoral almost sacred version of this song. The flute of Ian McDonald is flawless, fripp is magistral with his perfect strumming... Lack of words. Lets listen.

It's a huge sin to not mention Ian's talent on the mellotron!

Except short segment of Schizoid man live in Hyde park nothing is available from original line up. It's a pity for sure. Video of King Crimson around 1969 would be great.

@Cathode Roy That's actually so cool, I totally get those vibes from him
I was actually listening to the Epitaph live album the other day specifically to focus on Giles' drumming and he has such unique ideas and nuances in his drumming while making it sound powerful at the same time, it's truly brilliant
