Thanks Robert for another informative and well made e bike video Here in central Florida with few and smaller hills,I don't really do much shifting on my Rad City 7 speed. I rely on the twist throttle and especially the PAS( power assist settings) to get the job done in short order. The single speeds you discuss by comparison to my Rad have weaker batteries, smaller 250-350 w. motors, and some with rim brakes and stripped down accessories/ components. I might be biased but the Rad Mission looks the single I'd go for if I needed one. The Hurley,Jetson, and the last one look kinda cheapo with questionable customer support .But you get what you pay for in this I reckon. Robert, I really liked your end of video charts. You did a great job on this topic. Applause and two thumbs skyward on this one!

I did this with the person who won't be doing long rides in mind. I figure that if they fear changing gears they won't be avid cyclists, so they might be happy with those under 400 Wh batteries. If I were to choose, the RadMission is the only one I would consider buying. Thanks again for your suport.

Very informative. Don't forget two folders: the Lectric Lite and the Electric Bicycle Company Model F which just came out. Both have throttles and the Model F has a 750 watt hub motor. My ideal bike is a single speed folder with belt drive and a throttle. Found one but it's expensive.

I hate single gear bikes. Never tried a mid drive ebike tho. But absolutely hate single speed bicycles. I can't stand it when my derailleur isnt working right and i cant shift properly. The only thing ive ever seen singles good for are kids/learning bikes with coaster/peddle brakes, or real beach cruisers made to be able to handle some sand getting into workings and not foul it up too much. Otherwise, i hate singles. I might have to try a ebike version tho. The fact its belt droven instead of a chain has me intrigued.. 🤔

I converted my 7SPD rear hub motor Ebike to SingleSPD.
    I went with a 58T-12T
    Positives:
    -My bike lost weight
    -I decluttered my handlebars
    -made cleaning the bike easier
-made replacing drive train parts cheaper
-drive train looks minimalistic now (cleaner looking)
-less chain noise since I have a straight chain line
    Negatives:
    -lost gears

Six positives and one negative. A pretty good ratio.

Can you please tell me what part is needed to convert to single speed?

As for stealth ebikes, I can think of a few extra reasons. Thieves may prioritize ebikes if they see one among normal bikes (though if your stealth ebike looks fancy it may draw their attention anyway). And Police - in areas where ebikes are illegal, or if the ebike exceeds legal limits.

I'm looking at single speed ebikes, since my use case is commuting on bike paths (Europe), so I don't care about high speed (25 km/h is plenty for me), and I only expect moderate inclines. (I have other high powered high torque PEVs for offroad, but now I need something that can carry groceries or larger luggage). So it seems to me that adding a lot of complexity to the bike (more maintenance and more things that can break) for benefits that mostly matter if you want to go very fast or climb hills, none of that applies to my use case.
The issue is, I don't see many options for affordable single speed ebikes available in Europe that look like they could handle heavy panniers. So I might have to buy one with gears, and then when the gears wear out and would need replacement, perhaps I'll replace them with a single speed belt drive. Just gotta find out how plausible that is to do 🤔

If you're buying a bike that has chain drive, it likely wouldn't have an openable frame, so you couldn't convert it to belt drive. But I think you're right about a simple bike being ideal for your needs.

Sorry but I will stick with my Catrike Dumont unpowered. I am out to enjoy my ride and not set to break any records and than the cost and disposal of the batteries.
Health wise is better on a Trike. Your older than me ( I am 72 ) but balance, Bruising, pain in neck and only enjoying the sight of the ground, shoulder pain, back pain, wrist pains where hands were going numb. Having to put a foot down when stopping, going around a corner and hitting a sandy or rocky area and bike slips out from under you. All of that is a thing in the past. Sitting back able to look around and stopping to see natures beauty.
Robert, what or how are you going to dispose of the battery? Hopefully not in a creek, river or landfill as others have done, what about a fire, there are cases where these batteries have caught fire? Are you going to carry around a Fire Extinguisher with you? That adds more weight. Our Fire Chef went to the City Council and told them that his Department to over 3 hours to put out and Electric Car and over 7,000 gallon of water. WOW
I know your ebike is smaller than the Electric Car but are you ready? I see people using these Electric scooters in the stores that should be walking. At one time I weighed in at 270 lbs and 5' 11". But now down to 205 lbs.
I watch 3 different UA-cam channels where they magnet fish and the number of batteries they pull out of the creeks, rivers, ponds, and lakes is shocking. People don't realize how much pollution they are creating. It's Sickening plus the environmental impact the chemicals that are use to produce these batteries. It's unreal and this Biden Administration is trying to con us into believing.
    LET'S GO BRANDON!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOOK over in Asia and see the environmental destruction they have created in the gathering of the chemicals to produce a battery.
I went and bought 2 - 12 packs of rechargeable AA batteries and only got 4 good batteries out 24 batteries and they were EverReady. I am so sick of the Corporations pushing for rechargeables.

Are you suggesting we stop all industrial pursuits? No fun and no utility because there is a chance of a fire?
I have some bad news for you and the rest of the industrialized world. One man's actions are inconsequential.

I love the idea of a trike, but in Ottawa, they're next to non-existent for some reason or other. Since I've ridden on a road with one (only tested some at Hamilton Trike and Bent) I don't want to spend thousands just to try one. So I'm checking Kijiji occasionally in case I can see a cheap second hand one, but no luck yet. As for disposal of lithium batteries, I dispose of them at the Gatineau City dangerous goods collection station, and have no idea what happens to them afterwards. I trust, perhaps naively, that there eventually will be a way to recycle them. Risk of fire? I don't lose sleep over such a rare event. Thanks for your viewpoint.

@@difflocktwo you need to watch the 3 different UA-cam channels about magnet fishing. Also about the battery fires. I almost lost a couple of my Platoon soldiers on 2 occasions they had batteries blowup. On when cleaning the batteries which they are suppose to do so often the other when one of them stepped on the battery box that is a step but someone didn't correctly install the batteries and cables. It picked a 180lb man up and threw him6 feet.

And why do us men have to have the Family Jewelry Killer with the high bar? Why can men grow up and say no to the high bar? I own the Trek 1000 Graphite Frame that is lite. It had a semi walk through and was nice. We men are stuck in the past so much it makes me sick. I thought progress was going forward not backward or stuck in our heman. I rather enjoy riding than worrying about the design of a bike frame. That's what's really nice about a Trike anyone can ride it with out worrying.
