Great surfing Beau and another superb review and board breakdown! I own the previous 10x29 (and and 8'7" Pro) and have been blown away with the responsiveness. It goes rail to rail so well, bottom turns like a giant shortboard and is soo much fun. Its the best Surf Sup I have owned to date. I have a Santa Cruz (Doug Haut) designed 9'6" prone longboard as well that rarely gets surfed now but that board does highligh the orginal designs biggest shortcomings - it has A LOT of rocker and scoop. So it will take a late drop and HP wave surf like crazy but its not the fastest or best nose rider even with a big single fin. Looks like SB went and fixed that and added a bit more volume and a 9'5" to boot! Is a 2024 in my future? Pretty sure the answer is yes just which one 9'5" or 10x29??
Wow, thanks for sharing your story on the boards you are riding. Super cool to hear you are stoked riding them. The 9'5 was my favourite as it felt so easy and was so smooth on the wave. You'd be happy with either the 10 x 29 or the 9'5 x 30! Thanks, Beau
Since this is a starboard dedicated topic did you see any obvious differences between the carbon and limited construction apart from the weight? Would you say a limited construction could still give you sensations in the water?
The Limited construction still feels quite nice. Yes, the weight is heavier but you still get the same feel under your feet. I quite enjoyed riding the limited 9'5 longboard and didn't notice a huge difference between them. Of course for maximum performance, the carbon version is the top pick. Hope this helps. Thanks, Beau
The main difference is the new 2024 range has a flatter rocker and the boards noseride better (but still turn well). Whereas the 2022 models turn very well but feel a bit slower when noseriding. They are still both really nice boards to ride. Hope this helps. Thanks, Beau
I’ve watched and commented on many of your great videos. I’m 6’2”, 195 lbs, 66 years of age and in real good shape. Just started SUPing this past year. I enjoy it, have improved quite a bit and have a long way to go before I SUP surf the small surf here in South Carolina. I have a fanatic ISUP and would eventually like to transition to a hard board. Considering my weight, height and bad (but greatly improved) balance, I really thought the Avanti or Whopper would work for me. What are your thoughts? Will Starboard continue with those two? I do not expect to be a pro. I just would hope one day that I could SUP surf without killing myself. Again, thanks for all the great informative videos. Don
Hi Don, thanks for the comment and information you have provided. The Whopper would be a really stable and easy board choice. It would allow you to balance with ease in the surf environment. Perhaps another choice would be the 10'2 Wedge from Starboard. Good luck with the progression and look forward to hearing how you get on. Thanks, Beau
Cracking review & explanation of the different sizes. How does the 24 starboard longboard compare to the 18 RRD longsup v1, both have fine rails, relatively flat rocker line & scoop nose? What size would you recommend for an experienced sup surfer weighing 85Kg to be used in all south west uk conditions? Thanks.
Thanks. To be honest the RRD LongSUP in 2018 was a very nice shape. There are definitely similarities between the two boards and they would be pretty similar feeling when riding them. Of course, it's been a while since we were riding the 2018 RRD but the Starboard feels more responsive and reactive. If you feel comfortable on 100L boards, the 9'0 x 28" x 105L is a great choice. But if you want a bit of stability and extra comfort the 9'5 x 30" x 124L is the one. I really enjoy riding the 9'5 over the 9'0 size as it feels much more like a longboard as you can easily get to the nose and still turn it easily. Thanks, Beau
Beau, I'm considering the 8'2" Spice or 9'5" Longboard, both in Limited Series. I have a 2017 8x28 Pro. Should I complement the 8'0" with the 9'5" or kill the quiver with the 8'2" Spice?
Oooh great question! If you’re happy with the Pro then add a longboard to your quiver for those smaller days and when the waves are slower. That way you’ll have a choice of boards to suit most conditions. Longboards are so much fun, you might even end up surfing it more than your Pro! If you’re confident on the Pro in choppy water, you may find the 8’2 Spice too big for your needs. It’ll turn slower and feel bigger. If you’re going for the Spice it would be to replace your Pro and I’d look at the 7’11 size. Hope that helps. Beau
The intro: really? Who SUP surfs like that? Dude has gotta be a pro. Come on. Get a regular dude on video like me out there. I’ll be in the water more often than nor. Ha ha.
Ahh, now I need to add a SUP surf longboard to my quiver! Looks so fun!
So much fun!
Beau Killing it ! Talented surfer 🏄♂️
Thanks very much! Cheers, Beau

Well, he is an ex pro,so you are right.
The 24-year model was changed to udcarbon It's not very durable If you're not in a good condition, it'll break up in half a minute
Thanks for your comment. We will do some research into this. Where did you hear this? Thanks Reuben
