Hi there enjoyed the video very informative, what is the different between acroyoga and acrobatics they both look very similar. Also how come you dont switch roles ie the base flying and vice versa, sorry about the questions bit of a novice here when it comes to yoga but would love to learn more x
Hi! Really good questions :) Re the difference between acroyoga and partner acrobatics - this is a much debated question and it doesn't have a straightforward answer. Some would say that partner acrobatics focuses on standing tricks rather than L-basing (where one person is lying on the floor), but there is definitely an overlap of physical content. To me the difference is more psychological than that. In an acroyoga class we place great importance on awareness of communication - how are you talking to your base, flyer or spotter? Just like in yoga, the physical posture isn't the lesson, it's what you learn along the way. Whereas in partner acrobatics classes tend (depending on the teacher) to be more 'tricks' focused. However it's pretty hard to take you through this via a youtube tutorial so I totally understand if that's not clear from the video! When it comes to switching roles, we actually do! And we always encourage everyone in class to both base and fly. However, even though we do both train both, we do have preferences - roles in which we feel more comfortable. This is usually the case with more experienced acroyogis. And when we teach it's important that we know the content like the back of our hand, so we can explain it most clearly and chat through all the challenges you may face. So when we teach, we tend to stick to doing what we know best. Let us know if you'd like a video of us reversing roles and we'll for sure work on it once lockdown is over! Thanks again for the questions and don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any more :)
