Love this song, but yall are missing out not seeing the video, it is Iconic.
The little girl in the bee out fit is tapdancing, everyone is making fun of her. She goes through the city trying to find her place. Then, in the end she discovers a whole field of people dressed like bees dancing. It is amazing.
Need to watch the video...listening to lyrics is always good...but the video is soooo classic...they did well and the bee girl was fantastic
It's a whole different vibe with the video
This song...always a good one to listen to. Blind Melon was a good band. Miss them, I do. RIP Mr. Hoon.
Jessica, this was such a great album, loved every song . Like so many, Shannon Hoon crashed and burned. ...It was great period in music, so much exciting and different sounding music
We were robbed when we lost Mr Shannon Hoon. Truly a great loss.
Rock In Paradise.....
rip
The Ripped Away version of this off Nico was so gut wrenching in hindsight.
OMG more Blind Melon......every song is filled with pain, depression, depth and unbelievable underrated guitar work. Shannon has an angel voice
What degree is the angle?

@@AJ-gn4ki Greetings civilian and keep an eye out for the obtuse.
i hope wherever he is he knows how much he is missed.
That's called harmony, two voices blending.
Do I detect a note of sarcasm lol. I was kinda thinking the same thing.
He's complaining about how it's mixed.
This band is completely underrated and is best known for this song. The song “Change” by them is also worth checking out. Personally one of my favourites.
I second this one
The whole Soup album was amazing though. CRIMINALLY overlooked. Loved them since I was a kid. Maybe months before Shannon Hoon's od.
Third
Fourth :)
This album us over shadowed by this song. Tones of Home was always my fav.
Shannon Hoon had a voice like no one else. The bassist wrote 'No Rain' but Shannon's voice and lyrics made their first album incredible. I had followed them around on tour and was front center for Woodstock '94. The video for the song kinda made them look like hippies but they were not that band at all and hated that the Bee Girl video was all they got asked about as this album was out for 3 years before this video. Check out "Change" or "Mouthful of Cavities".
The album was released in 92 and the video in 93 not 3 years apart and yes they hated always being asked about the bee girl but they definitely loved the hippie lifestyle
Like NO ONE else?? Give me a break 🤦♂️🤡
There's no denying that whether they hated her or not, that bee girl certainly drew in a ton of listeners.
I was at Woodstock 94!!! These guys blew me away live!!!
He impressed Axl into a duet.
This song has a lot of heart, including depression and sadness. We all feel like that sometimes, but need to get out of it. Start small and try to get out of that depression.
The band "Live", their song "lightning crashes", has that effect with headphones on as well, theirs is really trippy! I believe Bob Dylan has quite a few songs like that and some others I can't recall right now.
Yes...they would really like Live! They were really good...great lyrics.
@@thebrhinocerous I think they would both like Live. Especially Lightning Craashes, as that song tells a great story. Brad would dig the lyrics and Lex would probably get into the groove after the intro. In fact, I kinda want to listen to it right now, so thanks for reminding me that it exists, Brian and A J.
Then Brsin Dead Brad should never listen to Quadrophenia.
Ah Live, easily one of the hardest bands to illegally download in the 90s 😭😂😂
@@shaland.mcgrinder3960 It's easier not to be wise.
I dont normally say this...but the video associated with this song, is OUTSTANDING!!!
Mouth Full of Cavities is one of the most emotional songs for me ever. So damn good. Toes across the Floor, Soup... I love this band. Thanks guys.
Both of those songs are amazing.
Bro, you couldn't be more right.
The little bee girl actually has a following of her own. She is of course grown-up today but I think she has like a fan club or something like it.
R. I. P. Shannon Hoon ❤️
It's the most upbeat song about severe depression ever made IMO. Love it.
I heard this song for the first time when I wasn't in a good place a couple years ago. It still gets to me whenever I listen to it.
Shannon Hoon RIP 🙏
Love this song 🎵 ❤
Shannon sang in " Don't Cry " by
Guns N Roses.
Was also in the video for Don't cry.
Yep.Shannon and Axel were great Friends since teen age.
Nice one mate, his contribution to that song is underated
Shannon and Axle are from the same Indiana town
Shannon has one of the best voices. I love this band. Their Cd Soup is STILL on heavy rotation over here.
This song was so catchy and I love the video with the "bee-girl" you should try to find that one for sure! thx for sharing Brad & Lex :)
When I saw them in Tuscaloosa, the bee girl from the cover was there bc she was at college at the W in Columbus MS & they brought her on stage. Great night & show...Meat Puppets opened
Yeah I think the video adds a lot to the song. The bee girl used to remind me of my son at the time - different but such a joy.
here it is ua-cam.com/video/3qVPNONdF58/v-deo.html
@@prodigal71 oh I'm so jealous. First, I absolutely love the Meat Puppets. Second, the bee girl is such a powerful image of how our society treats those who are different. Lucky you
This is also one of the few songs where I think it's appropriate to watch the actual music video along with the song. Lex would absolutely love it. The video matches the music's vibe perfectly.
Change would be a good follow up to no rain !!
"Change", "Mouthful of Cavities', 'Soul One", "St. Andrews Fall" and so many other great Blind Melon songs. Get into it! Shannon Hoon is an angel.
tones of home, toes across the floor... so many great song they have, i love the recorded live gig at Vancouver, it was and still perfect (for me at least)
You guys should react to…
Mazzy Star - Fade Into You
🎸🤘
Love that song.
How about some of their other great songs like Mary of silence, bells ring, ive been let down, the peasant, salt of the sea, liquid lady? Fade doesn’t do it for me like so many others of theirs.
@@jameslam1759 or into dust, always loved that one
I love that old song, but I'm not sure they would, especially Brad.

Bells ring
Mary of silence

Just a great band all around honestly.
More Blind Melon please! This band only gets recognition for this one song but they have many other goodies. Amongst my favorites are Walk and Soup.
Great song. This song blew them up almost too fast. RIP: Shannon Hoon (lead singer)
The official video for this is so cute. A girl dressed up in a be costume became known as The Bee Girl. There were some funny comments during the live stream about it.
*bee
This is another case of the actual video being MUCH BETTER than the lyrics video. No comparison
That is true, sometimes they're really missing out by not watching the original video.
I don't know; I think the "bee girl" takes away from the pain in the lyrics
"Keep my cheeks dry today"…ouch.
never been a huge video guy but the video for this song is perfect IMO give it a watch on your own time and
i think the picture will come into focus!
3:28 There was definitely no Auto-Tune used in this song since the song was released in 1992 and Auto-Tune was invited in 1997.
Shannon had such a beautiful voice especially live and it's unfortunate we didn't get to see Blind Melon evolve through the years. Change & Mother are 2 of my favorite songs and I highly recommend them.
Auto-Tune is just the name of the computer software version of Audio Time Stretching and Pitch Scaling which had been used via hardware in studios since the late 1970s and yes, Blind melon did use this effect a little as did many bands.
...really unfortunate
@@raymo6795 Though what's going on there just sounds like a doubled vocal with one of them chorused or phased.
@@deanroddey2881 Agreed 👍
I think he did the vocals two times and layered them a certain way
RIP Shannon, had a crazy good voice.. gone to soon.
Shannon Hoon never used autotune, he was just an amazing singer. Blind Melon is one of the best bands ever. I miss them. Listen to the song "Soak the Sin", such a banger. No Rain is beautiful but it's like their most comercial single. Awesome nonetheless.
Yeah, autotune wasn't invented until five years after this song was released, and it was originally invented for oil exploration, not singing. :-) That said, it was easy to see how it fooled them though. The harmonies warble and shift, and the notes of the song are all complimentary with the notes they're singing, and as the shift happens, it does feel a bit like phase shifting, or auto tune, but it's just their voices and the guitar 'braiding' and 'rebraiding.'
Other effects you can use.
It was a phaser.
@@TheMasonator777 Yeah, it did feel like the harmonies got a light tug, so that makes sense. You know this from an actual verified source? I've had too many buddies give me bad info.
S. McPherson S. McPherson It’s definitely a phaser or light flanger when she points it out (in the quiet breakdown) because there’s no harmony right before she speaks about it. It’s phasing/sweeping in a smooth wave. Overall there are a lot of vocal effects on this track.
Please could you react to Crash Test Dummies with the song Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm.
Yep that is the song title x
This is one where the official video REALLY compliments the song! The adorable little "Bee girl" finding her place is sweet.
Mouth Full of Cavities is an AMAZING song......anything from their debut album, Soul One
Change: “And when you feel life ain’t worth living, you got to take a look around look up right to the sky, and when your deepest thoughts are broken, keep on dreaming boy, ‘cause when you stop dreaming it’s time to die.” The way he sings this verse plus the meaning is one of the most beautiful moments in rock. RIP Shannon.
Another fantastic song choice but you need to watch the video with it. You guys are great!
Blindmelon, beautiful, tragic.
It is a song about depression, and not feeling like belonging.
You should totally watch the original music clip, it tells a great story.
I heard this when it first came out in the 90s and thought the lyrics said, " you know I like to keep my cheating strategy." I'm mind blown lol
I always dug this song, even though it's kinda mellow for my usual musical taste. You should check out the music video too, as it tells a great story. You have not really experienced a video until you know the struggle of the Bee Girl.
Aww you missed the official video with the little bee girl finding her fellow ' beeples', love that video!
"You know I'd like to keep my cheeks dry today" are some of my favorite lyrics. Great song.
Worth going back and watching the original video, which tells a whole story that's not the same as the lyrics, but has some points of intersection.
The drummer is a long time friend as we're from the same small town...and I was fortunate to be in one of their early videos that they shot in our County. Very memorable day rolling around in the cold, wet mud...
R.I.P. Shannon
Agree with Brad that the sad songs get the soul, and also, I think sometimes they sound happy bc sometimes you’re so down, you just have to laugh. I think it’s that in music form.
This song takes me right back to high school. Love it. Video is good too. Love your channel!
Loved Shannon's voice. Had all three albums. One song that gets no recognition is Skinned. A happy sounding song, featuring a kazoo, and is about serial killer Ed Gaines.
I love that song!
The singer really uses his voice like an instrument, but not in a typical way. The song Soak the Sin is a good example.
This song is from 1993, so there was no autotune as we know it. There were definitely some effects on his voice, like compression, reverb, and possibly some chorus, all for shaping the color of his voice.
Shoulda watched the video. The little bee girl is adorable and has a good message
I used to hate this song. I went on a road trip to Florida from Oklahoma and every darn station was playing this song in every state we went through. Now it’s a good memory and this song brings it back. Love it now
Really appreciate your reactions. Hoping you would consider some songs from bands without a large catalog but still had a song or two that were really great.
Blues Traveler - Run Around - 1994
Eve 6 - Inside Out - 1998
Stabbing Westward - Save Yourself - Haunting Me - 1998
Tantric - Breakdown - 2001
Trapt - Headstrong - 2002
Skindred - Nobody - 2002
Thanks!
Stabbing Westward were a great band.
I was a freshman in high school when this came out…. 1993 was a SPECIAL YEAR FOR MYSIC …. Pearl Jam won their first MTV VMA with JEREMY:) and blind Melon ruled the summertime of that year with this song:) RIP SHANNON… gone too soon
Another great 90's band that got lost among all of the great music was the the band "live". They're album throwing copper was amazing. Would love to hear a reaction to "lighting crashes" "Selling the drama" or "I Alone. You guys rock! Love the reactions from all different genres
Such a happy song about depression.
I'm an old 60's 70's rock guy but I've always liked this song a lot. The video that went with this song is worth watching too.
Love Blind Melon. Every time I hear Blind Melon puts me back in the 90s
I was fortunate to have seen Blind Melon 2x in Colorado USA, and they were phenomenal, absolutely Shredded it both times,🤘😎 Amazing Performers🎼🎼🎼🎼.
I got to see Blind Melon just a couple months before Shannon died. It wasn’t a normal sort of show for me to go to because at the time, I was pretty immersed in punk rock, but this show was so energetic and fun and full of electricity and I’m really really glad I decided to go when I had the chance to see them. I think they probably would have gone on to do a lot of great things.
Chris Thorn, one of the guitarists in Blind Melon, is the fella who taught me how to play power chords when I first started playing guitar. He was in a Southern PA speed metal band with my best friend's older brother. I was the bad kid just up from Baltimore with the good weed. Still live around the corner from the house they used to practice.
Ive spent YEARS trying to match his voice and 20 yrs later im close but goddamn his voice was once in a lifetime.
I was lucky enough to see Blind Melon live at the Reading Festival in 1995, sadly Shannon Hoon died in October later that year. Another amazing talent that we lost far too soon.
The real video makes this song so much better
lex would love the video the little bumblebee finally finding other bumblebees and living happy ever after
❤Love how ya'll just jump into it straight away. Not all that hot air the others blow before they actually get to the song. 🎵
Blind Melon. Tones of home. A must listen. Trust me. It’s fantastic
Banger!! RIP SHANNON HOON!! Change is another Blind Melon classic!!
You must watch the video with this.
The little girl dancing for everyone trying to find where she fits in is great.
The video for this one is iconic.
The "second" voice is a typical example of harmonising. The Beatles were famous for it
Because of that little Bee girl, this song was hug on video countdowns for months. I love this one.
Always one of my favorite lines is "I wanna keep my cheeks dry today..."
I remember when this song came out, and then seeing the music video for it. The torment I felt with the lyrics, but the journey "The Bee Girl" takes is so joyful. "Stay with me and I'll have it made", but what will happens if you don't stay? We eventually find out. Another tragic battle, and the addiction wins.
Lexi would flip over the official video.
In this vein I think you would really like Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians "What I Am" and Suzanne Vega "Tom's Diner"
Blind Melon was 1 of those 90's alternative rock bands that had potential... but was tragically ended after 2 albums after the OD death of their lead singer Shannon Hoon (R.I.P) in 1995.
And Hoon was a guest singer on the Guns N' Roses single "Don't cry"... he appeared in the music video.
yeah....you really need to see the video!! the bee girl is iconic. back in the 90s youd always see someone dressed as the bee girl for halloween lol.
Must hear more Blind Melon,so many great songs, any will do,love you guys
Their album 'Nico' is incredible. Worth a full listen.
I think this was the first "enhanced CD" I bought, I had this and the first Kitty CD and that was it I think the enhanced thing might have died pretty quick.
Great band. My favorite song is Sleepyhouse. I lived near Lake Tahoe when this album came out. I listened to it nonstop. Great for rainy forest music. Man now I feel old
Soooo much nostalgia for me! Love this song... it's a great road trip song!
The singing you hear is harmony vocals where they sing one octave from each other.
One sings the high note and the other sings the low note of the same chord.
They're also using various vocal effects.
Excellent band, so much good music came from them. Never gets old listening to Blind Melon and Hoons vocals
need to listen to Change by these guys, such a great song and really shows off his voice
also, his voice wasn't auto tuned in this, auto tune wasn't even invented yet. pretty sure they're using a chorus and/or phaser on his voice to give it that kinda metallic sound.
Tones of Home!!! Gotta be the next one you listen to by this band. Such a great song
How did I miss this one, this is my favorite song. I think I’m going to end up walking down the aisle to it 🥰
Songs about a depressed kid who just wants parents who care. Was actually able to see them live in Grand Rapids, MI back in college. Good band. Sad when he died
How do sad songs sound so good that I'm just bopping?
It's the ones that smile the most that are usually hurting the most.
I only found you just before you did the trailer tour. I'm happy I did. You guys have quickly become some of my favorite reactors. Thanks for your content
Blind melon has been one of my favorite bands for a very long time. its too bad that they kinda get lumped into the "one-hit wonder" category even though they had 3 top 10 singles. They have such great songs that are very different sounding from this one. Shannon Hoon was such a gem gone way too soon. he was another musician taken by the perils of addiction and excess that the rock n roll lifestyle offers.
Lex would have really really really enjoyed the video for this song. Happy little bee girl finally finds her tribe
Brad is so serious and lex just likes to bounce 😆
"That auto-tune?" No that was talent.
I was very sad to hear a bbn out you guys getting taken off you tube ! I love watching your reactions and listening to your takes on my favorite type of music love you two wish the best for you both.
You guys going to start watching the videos. They had so much depth and understanding to the songs
This song will be in my head for days anytime I hear it
I saw them in concert right before this album dropped. They were fantastic. So sad he passed away.
You just have to watch the original video clip. It's iconic. I used to love this song, thank you for bringing it back.
Love the song, has such a great “bop”, with intricate instrumentation. The video for this song is one of my favorites; you two owe it to yourselves to watch it; so satisfying 🤗🐝🐝🐝
It's the happiest sad song ever. Brilliant band. They are like folky alt grunge. Quite unique
It’s called a Drum Circle!! Love y’all! Great channel!!
Hope you get to watch the video for this one day; one of the most best ones ever made. Hard to listen to without wanting to see the magic of the little girl dancing. One of the most under-rated bands of the era, and one of the best songs released ever. kerk
This song is something special. It hooked from the first listen all those years ago. Thanks!
❤
The singer (RIP) sang on Don't Cry (and a few other songs) background vocals for Guns and Roses, he was also in the video.
