This thing sounds great! MXR needs to reissue this pedal
Analogman version of this is spot on and available
Analogman is tame and lame compared to this. Sound totally different. Doesn't have that growl. I'm guessing different chips?🤔
@thesimulations8900 i agree i ahve an envelope filter from analog man its one of the best out of the ones I've tried and i kept it. But ended up ordering one of these for 250
MXR Please bring this back!
Man, MXR needs to make a reissue of this like their micro chorus and micro flange. I'd be all over this for $89.99 on a decent reissue.
Check out Andy throwin down the Estimated Prophet! Nice brother.
Watched the intro 7 times. Jerry is always welcome in my ears
Pause…
I've had this pedals since 1992. Tip: A compressor before it can be used to contour the envelope. you can use a tremolo before the envelope filter and have it slowly sweep the filter on long note drones, even synth... this pedal has more uses than just the wah like effect!
Best Envelope Filter ever ! Simple in use and so effective in sound ! I allways found the attack control much more effective than the decay control found on many other env filters...
You've all been asleep, you would not believe me
Them voices tellin' me, you will soon receive me
Standin' on the beach, the sea will part before me
Fire wheel burning in the air!
Come on MXR Reissue this pedal!
Maybe I build & sell exact copies...and make a ga-zillion dollars! 😄
Came for Jerry, stayed for the playing with gain at the end
Andy rules.
I feel like finding the sweet spot in a filter is very challenging, yet he makes it look effortless with those awesome, bubbly tones.
Very cool unit! Simple but effective. Better than a lot of Envelope Filters I've heard.
F'in A Andy! Grateful for this one, and looking for a vintage MXR Envelope on Reverb in just one sec.
"No picks." You're damn right!
I love that estimated prophet
I know this pedal, a little. I just came here to hear Andy jam it. Closest thing to it in new form might be the MXR Bass Envelope Filter. Not as bright though- wish it was. This is a good one.
So funny..! Everyone who plays one of these for the first time.. they hit a couple notes.. then they get into it and start smilin’…🤣
I just bought one.. I was laughing out loud..!!👍🏼
YES!!! Andy plays Jerry and I'm in love. :D
Funny thing is I was wondering how they got that good sound in estimated prophet and this was the first video I found on envelope pedals. Perfect answer to my question
Andy’s pumped!
Hey, I think I suggested this one. Also, AnalogMan does a brilliant version of this circuit.
Sounds wicked good! NO PICKS EVER
I bought one of these back in the late 70's, and for years it was my favorite auto-wah, chiefly because it was the only one on the market with variable attack. That allowed it to be matched to the feel and tempo of a song better. I had a Fernandes Funky Filter (licensed Mu-Tron III clone at the time), but the MXR was my preferred unit. I used it in conjunction with my Univox Uni-Comp compressor and MXR 6-band EQ to get a reasonable decent "reverse tap" tone.
Much like early Phase 90's, the earliest issues of the Envelope Filter used component values to get a bit less filter resonance. I sold mine in 1980, but bought a second one around 1986, and that issue had a little more emphasis in the filter. I currently have a pair of clones I made, with adjustable resonance, hi/lo range, and up/down sweep direction. The Auto Q that MXR briefly marketed was a kind of hot-rodded version of the Envelope Filter, as is the Emma Discombobulator.
Nice Hagstrom
Hey Andy .. the choice of the Grateful Dead’s “ Estimated Prophet “ from their sublime album “Terripin Station” is a great choice to demo the MXR Envelope Filter ! Your rendition sounds a little square however being that the original songs time signature is 7/8. ☮️🤓
Great shirt! REVEREND makes reeeeally cool shit!!
Yes, envelope filter review, I know. That TS7 in the background sticks out. I had one! There must be a mistake. I hardly ever see pedals I have or have had in a reverb video. Maybe those pedals in the background represent a pedal spectrum pallet Reverb sellers have to offer, expensive boutique pedals to a first affordable drive pedal. Andy is awesome as always!
That little bit where he almost was shredding with the envelope was one of the few times I think shred playing was awesome. Need more of that in my life
Bwaow bwaow bwaow..... 🎼🎼❤️❤️
Oh my 🙏
just sold one of these a few months ago on Reverb!
i have one and love it, modded mine for true bypass and 9v power in.
my time comin' any day!!... as a kid, a real Mu-tron just wasn't obtainable. I found one of these MXR's... still have it today... its definitely not more mellow than a mu-tron which I have now.. the MXR has a grimey grwol to it.. which can actually be cool at times... whereas the haz labs Mu-tron, which like the original, is a much smoother down sweep...this difference is most notable when you hit a sustained chord..like the opening of Shakedown.. but the envelope response on the MXR is a little more excitable than the mu-tron which needs to fed just right.. so for single note picking, its a little more cooperative
My local shop had a vintage one of these in stock for TWENTY minutes. Hen's teeth.
What I Am Is What I Am.. . This pedal is instant Eddie Brickell and the New Bohemians
I always wondered what was used on "What I Am."
They were imitating Garcia. Check out estimated prophet
The Boss auto wah was used on that. They are getting expensive, and are often kinda beat up. I had one. This sounds as good or better.
Yes! I love that song, and the guitar
That was actually the Boss FT-2 Dynamic Filter.
I have never liked envelope filters till now!
Cal-i-forn-YUH :)
Fireee wheel burning in the air
Wooow this incredible. When i did read Envelope Filter i was thinking extactly in Estimated Prophet by Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia's tone. Amazing. Good songs played as ever!
Fares Delgado can you recommend some good live concerts to check out where Jerry is using the filter pedal?
@@arikoenig4536 Check out Hartford 77. It was released as "Road to Terrapin" officially. There's a smokin' estimated prophet in there.
If this pedal is late 70s what did Jerry use before this?
@@thejollyllama1579 a thread in Reddit said that he used a Mutron
@@StoTemPil Awesome, I gotta check that one out as well!
Lembrou as músicas do Bob Marley júnior Marvin usava muito na jamming ele tá bem chamativo
Used with two-handed riffs it sounds like a sequencer.
mix control with this would be awesome
really good stuff! What is that opening riff?
It’s Estimated Prophet, by the Grateful Dead
Awesome as usual Andy! Love that Hagstrom! I've never seen one with that finish! A newer version I assume! Some great deal for vintage ones on CL! Wanted one for drop turnings but may just get Droptune pedal instead! Too many guitars, not enough space! Echoplex request please👍👍
Jordan DeLaCruz i think the burst. Hag is about ten years old.
I got one of these from reverb and when I play high notes, say 15th fret high e string, the pedal cuts out and doesn't take. Is this common?
Man.....that is some straight 70's right there. But at 4:33 it gets dark and heavy.
If this isn't the quintessential envelope filter riff (Estimated) - what is?
I have the carl martin, but I like this one more.
Can you pick an original univibe next, maybe compare it to the deja vibe and the korg nuvibe
Suhail Couto I think it’s a totally different monster
I bought one of these a couple of years ago for $100 I think. I had no idea what what I was getting.
he just channeled Jerry
Got that mutron vib with out having to hock your teeth. Cool demo. Love the new studio too.
Awesome sound. I'd use it sparingly tho.
my first pedal I bought as a bass player in the early 90's, NEVER left my board. ....my board was stolen in 2013...still haven't found a suitable replacement. sigh...
Mine crapped out years ago...anyone repair these things?
call around to electronics repair places and guitar amp techs
what's the song at 2:55 ?
I prefer just slightly less distortion than what's presented here. 👍
The Choice of Tim Lefavbre
Voodoo quack child
The pedal is older than Andy !
Edad Martin Andy is 48
This is what I used to record this song with my band ua-cam.com/video/BrLjCTsPtYA/v-deo.html
(dude, f* that drive & distortion..!!) i wanted to hear it on clean sound to better compare it with EMMA Discumbobulator and 3LEAF Proton
Turn down that gain on the amp when using envelope filters. Such a better sound :)
Anthony Burke Yeah, what would the king of youtube reviews know about amp settings
Anthony Burke there’s no gain on a Deluxe Reverb. It’s just at normal playing volume, cheers!
Amazing playing! But I hate the tone at the beginning of the video so much. So muddy, and Reverb sounds so bad Only thing I like is the envelope filter haha. So I guess that’s good.
