Skimboarding in to Waves at Malibu!

- Blair and friends make a little trip north to try and find good waves for skimboarding in Malibu. When high tides coincide with a good south swell, Malibu's iconic point breaks turn in to skim spots. There is just one minor detail that we weren't aware of, The Rocks! While they were avoidable, the rocks did make skimboarding this spot a little bit more difficult.

So I've seen that high tide, inside skim lineup at 'Bu for decades, and imagined that exactly what we saw here, was possible. But I never thought I'd see a knife-fighter win the outside sword melee, in that fashion. Congratulations. You're a King of First Point.

Is it me, or is it just crazy how much speed he generates on that thing, especially when you see him catch waves on the outside
Nah you’re right it’s fuckin insane. No fins to drive the board forward either it’s all coming from like 3ft of knife sharp rail. So sick
What also helps is the wave rushing back to the ocean which helps him go a lil further also he is just freaking fast
Lolololololol I'm so glad to see this!!! I was pissn the longboarders off doing this in the late 70's on my "bon aire" skimmer lololol.i git s vic skimmer in the early 80's and passed the lonbiarders off then to lololol. I love this I love this .

I vaguely remember a very high tide and a sizable swell 3 to 5 ft swell and I had a hoot of a time.you bring back great memories for me.thank you.

We started skimming there mid 80s. They were some of the longest rides we ever had. Also did paddle in on skims then. Surfing was pretty vanilla then so going down the line on a skim then spinning 360s out in the break definitely caused confused stares.

Hey Blair, the painfully demoralizing spell of shitty surf down here in CR this season has me in a state - the surf's been crappier than normal mate, and I'm over it. And yet, after not even 5 minutes of watching this video, I'm quite literally cheering, then laughing out loud...I watch you guys get a couple nice little sliders in the shore slop, and then hey - what's that I see pumping through outside?...it's Blair, just owning it, all the way to the sand and a step-off!
I loved it - it totally made my day...I grew up in Malibu just a few miles north of the pier, "back in the day" if you will, and I can only imagine the confusion experienced by some of those old dudes as they saw what happened...I hope you got a standing ovation brah!!!

@@JAfonsoNunesMartins10 I would check out different beaches and make sure you go when there is waves, for my area if you go to the bach on a normal day you might come across 1 skimmer if your lucky but on a day with waves, if you go to the right beach, there will be multiple people there skimming. that's my best advice for meeting people. Also, go by your local board shop if you have one and talk to the people in there and ask about who else skims in your area, good luck bro
@Gonçalo Henrique My pfp is 9 years old, I'm actually 18 now. I wish I could go with friends but they aren't into water sports and we live in Braga, so it's like 40min to the beach.
But the beaches I go aren't the best for skimboarding, maybe there are better ones in Portugal that I don't know.

Grew up in Malibu on the weekends and Summers some forty/fifty plus years ago. Not the place I remember. Moved into Paradise Cove is 82’ after high school when making $45 a day six days a week was enough to rent a little single wide trailer there. Space #28.
I’m trying my hardest to learn how to skim board and I just loveee this channel. A lot of your tips help but getting it down is hard. I have a good ol zap board but I really want a exile board like that. It looks sooo nice and smooth. I want to keep committing to learning but being able to go to the beach is hard.

How do you paddle on to waves with a skim board with out sinking through the wave?
It's all about positioning yourself in the right place to catch the wave. You have to be right under the breaking wave so you let the wave do all the work instead of having to paddle really hard on a board that is buoyant.
