To be clear, Im NOT telling people to Copy or Plagiarise the works of other artist and call it your own. Im asking people to consider looking at things that inspires them and copy them, study them and steal the philosophy behind it ( rather than the actual work itself) and put YOU into the mix to create an actual piece of Original work. Im going to leave a qoute by one the most influential filmmakers of all time to provide more clarity here.
"We want you to take from us. We want you, at first, to steal from us, because you can't steal. You will take what we give you and you will put it in your own voice and that's how you will find your voice. And that's how you begin. And then one day someone will steal from you" - Francis Ford Coppola

Hahahaha Kesh really can make someone's day by just simply replying :'D
Anyways, the main point of the video is to tell everyone that stealing(or looking for ideas from someone, to be positive) is *not* *a* *bad* *thing* , it's actually an inspiration we get in order for us *to* *come* *up* *with* *something* *new* .
An example of that is: Searching for a real-life image/picture of a forest then use it as a guide to create a fantasy world
Or taking a photo of a Fennec Fox as a reference for you to create new characters :)
I heard the saying "good artist copy but great artist steal". Your video really help me understand this! Thanks!
Here is another saying for you!
earth without "art" is "eh"
Um wait let me think of one! .... “heart” without “art” is “he”???? Idk okay I thought about it on the spot... :/
The quality of your videos is amazing and it's obvious that you put a lot of work into them. Love your art and your passion for what you do.
This was crazy inspirational. I've been in such a slump trying to fix my style and make it seem more appealing, but had no idea how to go about it. This helped so much, and I'm really glad you popped up in my recommended!
So true lol in college we were told basically the same thing but they called it “Sampling” and it was just a good way to get started on your at work. Say “ I love the idea of doing this and this from both these works so I’m gonna make my own work with that in mind” but you do it respectively as you would want your own work treated.
I airbrush motorcycle art in realism, but I always used some sort of reference and always painted to someone else's requirements and it got restricting. That's when I started Doodling on my YT channel. I pull only from my imagination, what I want to draw, and the way I think/want it to look. It is very free-ing! I'm still not sure where I'm going with it, but i love it. Thanks for the video bro.
Dude this is great -- this is kind of how I learned to draw. I'm on social media and I find styles I like and adapt or interpret what I like the most their style into my own art. I HIGHLY recommend this to all artists out there 😁
“Originality is undetected plagiarism.” God bless William Ralph Inge 🤣

I already knew the concept at the base of the discussion you brought with this video but the way you talk about it made me learn something new, another point of view about something I learnt time ago
Hey @Kesh! Loved your video. You made me realize that ORIGINAL actually means IDENTITY. The recombination of elements to create your own IDENTITY. That's awesome. It was funny to cause as I was watching your video I was thinking to myself how you were doing what you were talking about ie... :stealing from how to steal like an artist...you did this by making a youtube video. And then I loved how you recognized that in the end. Great video! thanks!

I guess the key is to have several different references for the same piece as opposed to just copying a reference photo as an exact copy.
Thanks a lot kesh for telling the difference
I just started watching your channel and I love your style and videos. They are very well thought through will a balance between seriousness and fun.

"Good Artists Copy & Great Artists Steal" Take that Art Teacher! (She doesn't let us do this)
Yeah, even if you don't look at references, you still copy. Where? You copy your memory, you literally copy what you see unconsciously. Art teacher that don't let you copy is not a good teacher imo.
