  • 1 month ownership update and walkaround of my new 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 in dolomite silver. Feedback on the dimming rear mirrors optional extra along with a cold start into idle of the engine. Listening to the exhaust inside and out.
    A look at the standard interior that comes with the GTS spec model including the standard option racetex interior and silver dash trim. Also taking a quick look at the optional folding mirrors and how they work with the car key.
    Also a quick update on my first mpg calculation on using nearly a full tank to the red light warning bar.

    Yes, I was suprised how good the dimming side mirrors are as well as the rear mirror dimming. I did not even know I had them since they are standard in the U.S spec. I do regret not getting the Satin Platinum colored wheels. The standard black satin wheels look great only when clean and even after ceramic coating my wheels the brake dust is crazy on these cars. Oh, and I also wish I had gotten the light design package as I didn't know that a $100k vehicle doesn't come standard with vanity mirror lights. Now I have to constantly hear from the lady why I cheaped out on $350 dollars. Hahaha

    • @Get10Yards
      @Get10Yards  Рік тому +1

      Haha yes that light package is extra and I also didn’t include it and remembered when I opened the and there was no light. That is one thing I should have added but forgot it didn’t come standard on the 718. It’s deffo a requirement for the ladies ever travelling in the car.

    Nice car and classy spec! BTW, do get those grills (I went with RGS for OEM look - also get the engine intake grills). I had my Porsche dealer install them for me (no visible tie-wraps) so that I won’t have any issues with warranty. Also, if you are planning to PPF the car, don’t forget the area on the rear bumper right behind the wheels. It gets quite damaged fast with rocks propelled by those massive tires. Enjoy!

      Thanks for the info. I’ve looked at those grills a few times. I was told they aren’t too difficult to do yourself.

      @@Get10Yards Yes, you are right but it’s securing them in place which is the problem. I didn’t want to see any tie-wraps so I decided to remove the bumper to fit them in place from the back. Zensport grills are easier to install but the fit and look is far from OEM in my opinion. The car should have come with them installed in the first place…

      Fingers crossed yes! I think it’s still a colour just not to order on the 718 on newer models. I’m sure that’s what the dealer said which is why I wasn’t forced to to change mine when it was removed

    Dolomite silver is hands down nicer than GT Silver.. a much more vibrant colour. The GT Silver of the 718 Spyder I used to own never gave me much satisfaction after cleaning it. It always looked a bit dull. Depends on the car of course. Looks superb! On a longer run you should easily crack 30mpg once it's run in.

    • @Get10Yards
      @Get10Yards  Рік тому +1

      I feel the same Cowan. It comes over a bit crayon like when it’s dull light but when the light hits it then it comes really bright. Might just be my eyes mind! But I’m glad now that I went with it. Yeh I’m trying to drive it really smooth on this tank and use a lot of coasting mode to see how far it can stretch with the auto start stop on. I’ll see if it goes up a lot or not. It’s hard to drive slow it just pulls immediately!

      That’s a triggered comment on colour mate. Both silver colours are great one is blueish shade the other brownish shade.

    Nice! I had a friend years ago who had an Audi TT. I drove it several times. Despite having a front engine, it had a bulkhead right behind the seats. I had a hard time with that and could not have gone far in that car because I have always needed the seat leaning back more than most people. I had to move the seat forward, cramping my legs somewhat so I could sit in it comfortably.
    I don't know if I could drive one of those with the mid engine because of the seat position.
    I also wonder about the dimming mirrors. My current mercedes has that with the side mirrors, but they do not dim so much that I can not see anything when there is someone behind me. The A6 I had was bad. All you could see was a spot of light. I could not tell how far behind me it was because everything around the light was black.
    I solved that by replacing the inside mirror with an off the shelf non-dimming mirror after the original started going bad.

      @Get10Yards  Рік тому

      I’ve not faced that issue with the wing mirrors. They dim the same as the rear view so i can still see the cars. The green tint just takes the brightness out of the lights.

    You mention short journeys/car just getting warm by time you turn it off - what kind of engine temp do you wait till or know is recommended before really letting it go in the full higher rev range? how long does your new porsche take to reach that running temp in these uk winter period times right now

    • @Get10Yards
      @Get10Yards  Рік тому +1

      I would usually wait till the oil temp gets up to over 80 degrees C before I put any high revs on. Its normally warms up to 80 maybe 5 minutes of driving. Then then would tip up to just over 100 after that and seems to make out about 108 at full temperature. I think it was the dealer that told me on my first car to wait till it was up to at least 80 before pushing it.

    Are the headlights good enough? or would you spec LEDs next time?

    • @Get10Yards
      @Get10Yards  Рік тому +1

      Ive would say the updates on the 718 from the 2L 2018 model i had are much better. Not that they were bad but I personally wouldn’t upgrade to the higher cost versions. Normal lights and full beam work brilliantly on these standard lights. I know the upgrades turn while you go round bends or something similar but I personally wouldn’t pay extra for it.

    • @marks7471
      @marks7471 Рік тому +1

      @@Get10Yards I didn't like the washer nozzles that come with the upgraded lights, although not on all of them, it was a bit confusing. My thoughts were that a bog standard light from Porsche in 2022 can't be too bad.

    • @Get10Yards
      @Get10Yards  Рік тому

      I don’t need it and it was a costly extra. I think they actually stopped letting people chose it at some point because they couldn’t get the parts. So people had to remove them from the build as it was going to production. Issues with the LED supply I think it was.
