My favorite part of this sonata is the third movement. I particularly love the demisemiquavers (32nd notes) octaves plus the minor seconds in the left hand that switch between the major and diminished chords that come right before it. It almost sounds like a siren or alarm with the minor second notes rubbing against each other. I’ve actually played this sonata myself, and it was a bit difficult. But I still got it done lol

I agree a wonderfull sonata superbly played, iam humbly speaking a self taught pianist from the age of 15yrs old iam 53yrs old now, and I am now teaching myself to play this sonata the k309 I've managed to go through the first movement so making good progress, do you have any tips in playing this fab sonata, I've fairly recently managed to teach myself to play the Mozart k332 f major 3 movements, and the k331 theme and 6 variations, and 3rd movement rondo alla turca, ( learning menuetto and trio making good progress) iam really enjoying playing these Mozart sonatas and the challenge of learning and playing them, any help with k309 would be most appreciated.

Totally wonderful phrasing, pacing, colours, dynamics and all round playing. Just wonderful. The andante portrait of Rosa Cannabich has never sounded so heart-stoppingly beautiful as here. (Many thanks for posting BB)

Superb. She definitely survived the tonality of Mozart’s piano. - nyc, 4/28/2022

@@Fumozart yea ikr. Mozart fugues aren't the best. He did many but on a lot of them he got no further than introduction of second voices (probably because he was doing them as exercises).
His only proper fugal stuff would be in a couple of his symphonies and religious works. I guess because at the time, fugues were no longer the hit thing. He moved away from religious works such as mass work as he began to focus on other works he felt he could do better. Everyone was into operas and symphonies and sonatas/concertos.

Nice playing in general? Isn’t it a little bit slow? In my opinion, it should be more lively and lighter. Also, the piano is quite high regearding pitching.

The last movement's speed indication is 'Allegretto gracioso' meaning gracefully fast. Haebler seems to be leaning on the 'graceful' side of allegretto, which actually means fairly fast. However, I would rate this as Andante con moto (slow with motion). She is obviously very wary that the demisemiquavers would be risky for her to achieve clarity and evenness at the correct speed, so she has become ultra-graceful and slow!! This could be the speed that Cannabich's daughter may have played it at, but this is not authentic to Mozart's indication and mental creation in the hands of today's concert pianists' abilities!!!

@Peter Rabbit because it’s six damn minutes I played the 2nd and first mvt before, and my time was a bit faster. Ingrid Haebler does play piano very well and I’m not judging but it just feels a bit slow. But I’m not sayin faster is better but just not too slow.

Yes, a tad faster would be good. I hear some pianists play it TOO fast, which ends up sounding horrible. Allegro con spirito would seem to indicate faster "with spirit"...
