Watching SCII after watching you play Stormgate and Zerospace makes me realize how much of hill those two RTS' have to climb. SCII looks, sounds and plays so much better despite being over a decade older.
Would love to see you play Warcraft III or AoE II just for giggles. Wacraft III in particular plays a lot like Stormgate, but better IMHO.

SC2 has had a decade to refine its graphics and look, not to mention a budget ten times the two of them combined. It's not like graphics have even advanced that much since 2015, not in a way that benefits RTSs.

@@matthewgagnon9426 For sure the graphics ceiling is lower, in terms of what can be expected from RTS when discussing leveraging modern tech, but the floor is much higher too. Engines and tech have made huge strides forward since then, and the amount of resources available to devs today in 2024 vs. when SCII was being developed is significantly better. Additionally, I feel that years of pro-level RTS would have at least led to indy devs. just as much as blizzard to really come up with cool ideas for RTS game mechanics, balance, and unit concepts. Yet of the three things I mentioned in my original comment (looks, sound, and play), I think gameplay is by far where SCII is best over the other two which is kind of disappointing. In other genres, you often see indie or smaller studios come up with innovative twists or variants of concepts based on lessons learns from other titles. Here I feel the two games showcased present us just remixes of Blizzard RTS games. I would have loved to seem maybe more traces of C&C and AoE in them at the very least or maybe something fresh altogether. I guess I'm just underwhelmed.

"looks and sounds" is the thing blizzard excels at the most. But the other games are also in alpha, and "looks and sounds" are generally developed during beta, so that's not a lens I'd use to judge them at this point.
