😂I saw TRB with Danny Kustow on guitar in Chicago in late 70s (maybe even 1980). It was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Tom's happy enthusiasm spread throughout the concert hall. Great memories! ❤

I remember going on a coach trip to margate with my friends in late 1989 and listening to this song. There was a train strike on that weekend and we had to leave early. All was going well until one us got arrested for kicking a football at a policeman. And then when we got into town our coach exploded. Wasn't much fun trying to get a hotel that night in town.

It stayed in the back of my mind though for all those years. Talked about it last christmas with friends (in England), but they thought I meant the Proclaimers... Then lo and behold: yesterday they played it on the radio! Found it again, still a powerfull song!

Love this song my uncle Tony Deagle sung this with his guitar like nothing I've ever heard, he was better looking version of Colin Hay and sounded identical, the women loved him especially the old dears over the laundrette, when we were kids growing up in Sparrow Hall Liverpool, he jumped a lift with three pals an old Austin Cambridge and it mysteriously hit a 30 foot prewar concrete lamppost, all three were lost on that November night in 1981 he lived for those he loved and those he loved remember

I am a 31 year old Black woman and I love this I actually remember riding around in my foster mom’s car when she was running her errands in Dudley West Midlands I would’ve probably been about 4/5 she would leave me in the car to pick up her groceries and I remember this playing on the radio on a summers day I remember thinking this isn’t the right way to count...but hey it was catchy.

Im a 23 year old half Chinese Jamaican eskimo and my mum would open the windows of our igloo and play this at full volume when we were kids. My mum sadly passed away 2 years ago after a long battle with the neighbours who were native American red Indians, they ambushed her she was hanging out the washing and after being struck down by 50 arrows they scalped her. I know she still watches over me, this songs for you mum.

Gotta give TRB props for promoting gay rights waaaaaay before it was acceptable. As a straight white kid in rural America the TRB was a glimpse into another world. I was down with his radicalism, but bringing gender, race, and sexuality into the mix really challenged me, they deserve a lot more credit than they ever received in the States. Maybe it is different in the UK but he was the first gay rights advocate that ever to touch this straight guy. He made me an ally before it even existed.

If playback or not it still is absolutely brilliant. And the tone of Toms voice. I 'm surprised they didnt make it bigger though I'm aware of Toms troubles.

Drive my truck midway to the motorway station
Fairlane cruiser coming up on the left hand side
Headlight shining, driving rain on the window frame
Little young Lady Stardust hitching a ride
    And it's 2-4-6-8, ain't never too late
Me and my radio truckin' on through the night
3-5-7-9 on a double white line
Motorway sun coming up with the morning light
Whiz kid sitting pretty on your two-wheel stallion
This ol' ten-ton lorry got a bead on you
Ain't no use setting up with a bad companion
Ain't nobody get the better of you-know-who
    2-4-6-8, ain't never too late
Me and my radio truckin' on through the night

That same old motorway sun coming up with the morning light
Well, there ain't no route you could choose to lose the two of us
Ain't nobody know when you're acting right or wrong
No one knows if a roadway's leading nowhere
Gonna keep on driving home on the road I'm on
    And it's 2-4-6-8, ain't never too late
Just me and my radio truckin' on through the night
3-5-7-9 on a double white line

In Nazi concentration camps prisoners were made to display downward-pointing equilateral triangular cloth badges on their lapels, the colour of which denoted the reason for their imprisonment. In the 1980s, the pink triangle was subverted and having been inverted - pointing upwards, was increasingly used as a symbol of gay identity. This was indeed a bold move on national TV and the BBC in 1977 - although the producers of TOTP were likely oblivious to its meaning. This was after all the show that erected a backdrop of Jocky Wilson the darts player for Dexy's Midnight Runners 'Jackie Wilson Said' - (although I am now thinking this may have been a joke on behalf of the band).
The BBC went on to ban 'Sing If Your Glad To Be Gay' from its airwaves.
