Loved what you said about the interracial situation. I'm a Black woman who - WHEN I dated - dated predominately white men - not because I wanted to be white - but because they were pretty much the only ones that WEREN'T rude or obnoxious to me and they KNEW how to treat a woman! I'm not generalizing in the least, but I'm only speaking about MY situation at the time.

I used to work at Nordstrom in the early 2000's. We had to dress-up (both men and women) and we had to walk the bags around from the counter and hand it to the customer. We had nice carpet and a piano player. NOW, Nordstrom (like all of the other stores) have gone down into the garbage can. I blame the younger generation, because us older generations were the one's who made these classy rules.........and lived by them.

Sheila those were some good points. It isn’t just women of color that are riding the rudeness train. It’s all over these days. People are apathetic if it isn’t their business. They also are getting paid crap wages. Stay safe😊

I’m glad for this follow up. This is what I meant about the other videos…bad customer service and rude people come in all races, but people like to clamor to negativity around black people and black women in particular. I agree that the main grievance is that you felt disrespected, and it was even more hurtful that it was from someone that looked like you. In the end, everyone wants to feel respected, acknowledged and treated with kindness. I think this is on the soul level. Even though we want people to be better, some people unfortunately just aren’t there yet.

    • @therealdarrell282

I agree. Unfortunately, when people make a video calling out issues within the Black Community, you see a lot of those videos that views and clicks. The same people that will say they have issues with customer service or dating BM or BW for whatever reading have nothing to say when other cultures make videos on UA-cam calling out their race for dating outside their race and etc.

I'm sorry, but this is nonsense. It's very demoralizing to go to the grocery store and simply want to buy your groceries and go home and end up getting treated like pure trash by the black woman cashier. Yes, it's true we don't know what people are going through, but how am I supposed to process that in the moment? Do I, as a customer, just suck it up and realize that such treatment is the norm? The nasty looks I get from black woman cashiers is truly astounding.
And: Why is it that I rarely, if ever, get that treatment from white, Latino, and asian workers?

They want to live but are not appreciative of anything. Their families use them for money but won't help with taking them to the doctor or store so all that frustration gets spewed on me. So much anger and hate. But, in all fairness, those eho drive them to and fro are nasty as well. And yes, it all started around pandemic time and it is getting worse.

Hi Sheila. I don’t know how anyone is wearing hair extensions in this dreadful heat 🥵. Sadly customer service is bad across all industries in America. I don’t go out to restaurants anymore because the food quality is poor, customer service sucks and the whole experience is too expensive for all that plus they expect 25% tip for nothing. I’ve lived and traveled in other countries and US customer service was usually better but now it’s just as bad and things are way more costly than in other countries. I’m disappointed and ashamed in the fall of America’s standards.

We have to stop supporting businesses that disrespect us. When clerks are rude or poorly trained it's a corporate issue. They figure we will shop there no matter what so they don't invest time and money developing quality employees. If they were blasted enough on social media, especially LinkedIn where many CEOs have direct links, they will make changes because stock holders can see that public dissatisfaction.

  • @kjsstudent

"You don't know what they're going through." People who make this statement are usually rude and toxic themselves and/or enablers of abuse and bad behavior. Do the people throwing out that phase consider the customer or the person on the receiving end of the rude behavior might be going through something but still being considerate and just trying to get through their day. You weren't wrong for calling out the rude cashier. Everyone is going through something and some of the nicest, most polite, respectful people are going through hell and they don't take it out on others. Society has become backwards, defending wrong and shaming right. It's sad.

Hello! I can’t say that I totally disagree with your perception of customer service concerning young black women. But,Here is another perspective. Sheila I’m in your age group. So needless to say we came up at a different time. Now,Me saying that doesn’t mean I’m giving these women an excuse I’m just using this to frame my perspective. In our day and some times these days we assimilated some more than others. We behaved in a sense part of it was because we were raised by our family to have manners and on the other hand we were afraid we’d lose our jobs. And jobs weren’t so easy to come by especially for black folks. These days these people are in a different time. Keep it honest they aren’t kissing your behind or even their managers behinds these days. These people have so many other resources to make money these days. And there is just no pride about certain things anymore. We had pride in our work ethic we cared about how we were perceived now it’s different. I say that but let’s get to you. Ms. Sheila you seem like you expect to be catered to like well I’m not going to say that. I think in the cold items not being put in the right bag you could’ve pick your battle on that one. The woman calling the white woman over in front of you that wasn’t ok. She should’ve been reported maybe but it would’ve been your word against hers. She could’ve said she didn’t see you and you know she did so… I think that we should understand the times that we’re living in and adjust accordingly to certain situations. Now,I’m not saying allow yourself to be mistreated but I pick my battles. Many things I just walk away but I’ve never had any bad customer service situations that were serious. I’ve had a few dry responses when I’ve asked a question but to hell with them. I don’t expect too much from folks that are at a deficit. Be blessed Sheila❤️

Hey, Sheila. Any issues with customer service starts at the top. Always. Management that only cares about the bottom line. They don't care about customers and they damn sure don't care about employees. Private equity investors buy out companies and immediately fire most of existing staff so the new staff knows little or nothing about the product so they can't serve the customer. But I don't gas what people are going through, if you are in a customer service position being rude is inexcusable.

I can remember previous recessions, economic hard times, where the cost of goods went up. Some companies in the past used great customer service, to compensate for the pain at their registers. They purposely pushed providing great or outstanding customer service. That isnt taking place today. Sheila I just wrote a micro thesis on goole reviews about a store I patron. From the filth on the inside and outside of the store to the rudeness, all thanks to you. I went in this passed Friday and Hallelujah, I saw noticeable changes. The self check outs were getting disgustingly filth. Now they were clean. The shelves and frozen food doors were filthy, now clean. They had stopped staging the grocery carts at the entrance for months. You had to hunt one down on your own, and now they were staged again. It's up to all of us to say NO. There is this unfair moniker now that if you complain, you are a Karen. It's bullshit depending on how you complain and why you are complaining.
