Chamberlain Lake Camping: Brook Trout and Togue in Severe Weather
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- Winter camping on Chamberlain lake in the Allagash Wilderness Waterway.
First day setting traps and ice fishing for togue and native Maine brook trout.
The weather was bad enough that the only two other people out there were getting paid to be out there!
We get checked by the local Game Warden.
The Allagash Ranger delivers a severe weather warning for the following days.
We catch large trout and togue.
Great times had by all.
Part 2 of 7.

Can’t believe this channel isn’t in the millions. The most real and down to earth UA-cam ice fisherman out there.
Thank you, Greatly Appreciate it.
That Cameron is a beast! Everyone needs a fishing buddy like him!
Absolutely the best
These guys can fish. More videos with them.
yeah they are top notch. stay tuned
Fished Chamberlain back in early 90s with my dad and some of his buddies. Stayed at a cabin right on the lake. First day was 15 degrees no wind got lots of flags. Fish stopped biting wind picked up and dropped 30 below. We all nearly froze to death..lol
SHOUT OUT TO CAMERON FOR THE SPOOL JOB IN THE FREEZING COLD! HE WOUND IN EVERYONES TRAP. SAVAGE
Cameron is the most helpful and great guy I've fished with. Always looking for ways to help others, smart, and a great kid!
Awesome video from start to finish! I appreciate the effort you're putting into these. Top notch!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
5:26 I have to laugh every time I watch this and this sausage link is just loving the ride…Wheeeee!! 😂
Hahaha it’s like a pig squealing all the way to the plate
We'll be enjoying some moose chili while watching you and them downeast boys ice some beautiful natives. Best channel on UA-cam, hands down..
For sure thank you.
It’s really not even comparable to anyone else, he’s the most entertaining guy to watch on UA-cam, just needs the subscribers to support it so he can go full time , one day it will happen, he’s got the talent the know how the equipment and the video editing skills just a matter of time before he blows up… it’s just going to take 1 video to go viral and it will take off like it deserves
I strive to have the same mentality as yourself. Being able to embrace the suck is hard to do but you manage to do it with little effort and keep a great attitude! Great work!
Thank you, Always a bright side to focus on!
Nice...that new sled is a beast!!
Thank you, Big time
I don't fish a lot of trout through the ice here in Wisconsin but I love your content Joe. Appreciate the careful handling of the fish in the cold weather and respecting the resource. Tight lines 🤙
Thank you!
Awesome fishing boys man that Brandon is quite a woot !! He’s hilarious!! Cheers
Thank you! hes the best.
Looks like good times were had.
The best.
Fun to see guys in different areas of the country having fun on the ice like we do. Just different gear, fish, and scenery. Really great content. Thank you.
That’s cool to hear
Man I love all the videos and the stories to go along with it and the mixed in lessons on maine history. Appreciate all the videos man! Tight lines for the rest of the season!

Another EPIC video!! Even in bitter cold temperatures we still get you at your best. Still can’t believe you don’t sleep with a little heat on. Damn Grizzly Adams!!
Thank you! Half Bear maybe
Only a guy from main wears an ice cream joint shirt while ice fishing. I thought it got cold here in Pennsylvania but after watching you I feel like a wuss. Another excellent video Joe.
Thank you!
Awesome! Can’t wait
For sure thanks.
It’s probably the old man in me, but I use ice hole covers, saves me some time and aggravation on cleaning out holes. Would love to make it up to Chamberlain or Ross this winter. You guys are fun to watch! Keep the videos coming Joe!
Thank you, I keep threatening to use them too.
Great video. I really like how everyone works together. Seems like a great bunch of guys. Nice fish guys. Cheers.
Thank you, they are top notch
The only ice camper I watch enjoy your adventures- in MN we stay in wheel houses most of the time on the ice
Thank you!
Great video Joe. Those West Granders are typical downeasters. Quite entertaining. The diver scallops were as big a hockey pucks. Makes my mouth water just thinking about them.
Thank you! They are fun for sure and the Scallops were sooooo gooood.
That’s because brook trout are the nicest looking trout out all the ones you mentioned imo
Thank you!
I’m a fan! And I don’t really even go fishing anymore… but you are inspiring me to fish again! ❤️😘
thank you!
this group of guys is top notch, every time!!
Thank you!
Heck of a day Joe!!

Thanks bud, appreciate the support
Hey @joeholland great video. I'm so glad you guys had some good luck and great fish. I was also happy to hear Brandon talk about Rob at Nugents camps. I'm some proud of what my brother Rob has accomplished up there. You should splurge sometime and rent one of their cabins! Hopefully there's more episodes.
There was about 17 of us that rented the farm camp this spring, we appreciate Rob very much he is a fantastic guy always makes our stays a treat!
@@cameronmurray2530 Rob and Stella would give the shirt off thier backs, the gas from their tanks, and the food off their plates if you needed it. They are the perfect couple for that way of life.
Thank you! I have heard great stuff about them and the camps. My Senior friend Donnie stayed there 60 years ago and has mail correspondence from the previous owners.
@@JoeHollandFishing thats awesome, thanks for getting back to me. Much appreciated! Love the content.
Spiked boots is a great book!

You won’t believe it but it gets better as the series goes on!
Fantastic video Joe it’s always fun despite the weather it’s the company that you’re around that makes it fun

Fished that same spot last year, always a good place to be!
Thank you!
Another awesome video can't wait for episode 3
Thank you!
Excellent show
Thank you!
Wood stove would be sweet but gathering sure can suck. It's nice to come back to a warm tent or trailer. Those stoves pack up pretty well also
Truth
Awesome video Joe ! And some really nice fish!
Thank you!
Them dunstah's are deadly so good haha
They dont last long.
Awesome adventure joe! Love the fishing/camping series!
Thank you
Thanks for sharing Joe, great series so far
Thanks buddy
Joe holland my. Friend. That is why I like dead smelt already that is what I use for late ice
Good idea
@JoeHollandFishing thanks happy. Thanksgiving eat alot
Great video, fishing and weather looked to be right on par for up there, im jealous
Thank you
Another good video. Keep up the adventures.
Thank you!
Good to see you and the boys back fishing, Joe. It's rare not hearing Mainiac ice fishermen's colorful language. Except for the cold, can't ask for a better day ice fishing. That 29" togue is probably close to 9 pounds, and that fat 19" trout close to 4 pounds. January can be cold, but the fishing is usually better. The colder temps are encouraging so we get more ice and the season lasts until the end of March. Some years it doesn't get below zero. Those red dogs need to be flame broiled over an open fire. Isn't Chamberlain where someone broke the togue record of 39 pounds a few years ago in open water?
Thank you!
Ballstown Heat Tim Soule. Awesome stuff, don’t think he’s making it anymore.
Another great video Joe.
Thank you.
Love your videos. Thank you for your hard work capturing all these videos. Awesome. Would love to fish with you someday. Tight lines
Thank you!
awesome man..must have been quite the experience with the new sled..well worth the money spent..
Without a doubt thanks
Great stuff as always Joe. Really love the content you make and I need a rundown on what the boys from Maine call each fish because it's not what I hear in Ontario Canada
Thank you! Lake Trout = Togue or Laker, Brook trout = Brookies or just Trout, Burbout = Cusk or Lincod, Chubs = Mountain trout
Joe, what a excellent video as always. Watching you guys deal with that wind reminded me of a small lake I was fishing here in NH a couple weekends ago. I couldn't keep the holes cleaned out quick enough. What a long day. But again, awesome footage, and glad to see everyone had a great time. I'm going to loose some sleep tonight waiting for the next video 😁...but I do hope that everything turned out okay with the rest of the guys from the looks of the preview. 🙏
For sure thank you, spoiler , everyone ended up fine. No injuries, was a broken pin. Still had me worrying though because I’ve seen what can happen. Thanks for sharing and tuning in
@@JoeHollandFishing absolutely Joe!... love watching your videos, and you're right, don't take any chances with mother nature!
Absolutely love the video.. I'm definitely a subscribing..and gonna hit the creek in the morning for some rainbow trout.. good luck in your journeys
Thank you!
My step dad and I call it the brookie shuffle. We go around to our traps every 45 min to and hr bring the bait up and send it back it seems to help
That’s a winner for sure
Hardcore, Joe.
Don’t forget about the book “Forest Life and Forest Trees” by Springer. 📖
Thank you! For sure, I ordered a copy and it came with ridiculously small print so I just got another one maybe get through it next trip.
your living the dream
Thank you
Fished chesuncook this year, I got a 18” 3 pound brookie before I could even set my first trap and my buddy caught one just little bit smaller! Was a good -15 that day too😂🎣
Awesome, days to remember
Great video Joe
Thank you!
I have to wait 8 hours 😭😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣 Looks like she’ll be a good one 😎
Should be worth it
I am just starting to win my fight of fixing a tumor with chemo treatment and watching your channel has made me really want to try making my own fishing channel hopefully some time I bump into you because I would love to hang out and pick your brain.
Best of luck, tight lines.
It’s gonna be the longest day at work ever waiting till 6pm lol
Lol sorry
Your making me hungry watching u make breakfast 🍳
Hahah, me too!
Awesome videos as always Frank’s hot sauce is good with everything if you haven’t tried it yet try Dave’s insanity hot sauce it’s good
Thank you will do
Hay joe Holland this is Gary Bowman from Colorado. You fellows need to look into Chinese diesel heater . I have one set up in a husky tool box with wheels .5 kw with a 100 lithium battery . Run a pipe under tent or in window . No more cold no carbon monoxide . Just heat I have a Eskimo 650 . This works good . Just a good tip .
Thank you
@@JoeHollandFishing send a friend request and I can show how mine is set up . Works nice .
@@JoeHollandFishing Linda Bowman
Can't believe you actually gave up the red plaid jacket in this one....must be seriously cold!
truth
You have a great group of friends, LIKED & SUBBED
Thank you!
Grate vid joe
Thank you
Have you tried using a bag inside your boots over the socks? It seems to help with the boots staying dry and the toe's warmer.
No, my feet run warm and mostly get wet from the inside out. Sweat
..cool video keep up the great content.. Thank you…
Thank you!
@@JoeHollandFishing Thank you very mutch... have a nice day.... see you….
Were those the scallops from the Nuke power plant LOL Those were massive
Amazing scallops
i’m guessing the brook you’re fishing near is stocked?? that’s how a spot is in New Hampshire i fish is and the brookies in that lake i catch are pretty nice .
No stocked brook trout up there they are all natives, beautiful fish
No these are all native trout .
I am just learning about ice fishing. Is this all catch/release? You let some nice fish go…
Thank you! We could keep one brook trout, two lake trout and unlimited cusk and fall fish.
Good stuff as always man. Couple places you lost audio, but no biggie.
Thank you! Sooo frustrating with the audio. Switched editing software after this episode after using it for ten years. Like learning a new tool shed
Joe holland i would maybe look into the lacrosse alpha thermal boots
I’ve had a pair
Dang Joe are those 4” reels the ticket?! Sometimes we need ‘em
I love them
I was wondering why you guys use those traps instead of a regular tip up like a beaver dam? Do they have any big advantages?
Thank you! I havent used the beaver dams but our have large spools, are rugged and quality, high flags.
So why don’t you keep them instead of cutting the line doesn’t the hook bother them in the long run?
no it rusts out, we have re caught them pretty quick with others hooks too so they continue to feed,.
Lol the Brandon reference. 🤣
Lets Goooo
@@JoeHollandFishing Did you see LD1771? To establish the advisory panel to better understand and make recommendations regarding the implications of genome editing technology for the citizens of the state. They are looking for input in backgrounds or areas of expertise for many backgrounds including fishing. Makes me want to build a trout pond even more.
What is the name of the jacket and bibs you had on the gray one
Eskimo Keepers
Which auger do you prefer. I see you have a different one
My favorite is the strikemaster 40 v ten inch. I like the 8 inch lite flite for hole hopping and smaller fish and mild temps
@@JoeHollandFishing ok I was wondering. I was thinking about getting the strikemaster 24v
You should come up to the keewenaw peninsula of Michigan and try fishing sometime.
I have a question I’m from Ontario and we call touge lake trout are they they same fish like why do you guys up there call them touge?
Correct Lake Trout = Togue.
11:10!!! LGB!!!!!
Lets GOOOOOO
Is this at West Grand
Chamberlain Lake
OK Joe I have a question for you You don't always talk you don't sound most of the time like a native manor but listening to your stories It sounds like you've lived there most of your life so what's a scoop
Spent a lot of winters down south and traveling while fishing . My area of Maine, midcoast, doesn’t have the strong accent we have down east and in the County. My accent comes out stronger when around it I guess. There are different accents around the state of Maine , I grew up milking cows mid coast and we had a different language and accent.
I have a real good friend like a brother in Colorado in Colorado and hes originally from Maine he came out here with the military and then just stayed he was stationed at Fort Carson and it's funny over the years his accent has largely disappeared disappeared until he gets mad or starts drinking and then it's really strong I can't remember exactly where hes from
hey.....that's my hot sauce!
My favorite! Thanks
Hey Joe. Have you ever had a problem with the camp being bothered by anyone?
No I have been lucky in that regard and Mainers are decent all around. Most of my stuff is fairly remote.
You should look into a Chinese diesel heater and run it with a 100 amp lithium battery . 5 kw in husky tool box with wheels . Will heat you’re tent . No danger of carbon monoxide. Just heat . Gary bowman .
Thanks another user from Colorado uses the same setup
Ending with a cliff hangah?!?
yeah tried it out. Like it?
@@JoeHollandFishing That's some next-level production right there, bub 🎣
Hey can u give me some trout fishing tips
Absolutely. Check out this series, tons of tips. Go shallow for trout, 10-2 foot, fish half way down, smelts, no weights, light fluorocarbon line.
Many trips across chamberlain, down to chesuncook! It’s a different world up there. definitely recommend anyone who has this on their list to do it!
For sure agreed thanks.
Are you still out there?
No
Come on joe where's the cast iron
Went with less bulk and easier clean.
