their chemistry (Simon and Wilhem) is off the charts, great casting for this show
unbelievable casting. they are both wildly talented.
August doesn’t have adhd but is abusing the medication prescribed for it most likely as a form of performance enhancement. This is actually fairly common for schools like this where high performance & perfection is the expectation

To answer your questions: Edvin is 19 and Omar is 23. When they filmed season 1 Edvin was 17 and Omar was 21. And it isn't based on any books or anything. The reason Maddie speaks English when the rest speak Swedish is because she's an exchange student from New York. August is abusing Adderall (that's what the pills are).

@@JackieRossLavender also, in the world of the show Prince Erik is 21, Prince Wilhelm 17, August 19, Simon 16. This is according to what Ivar Forsling, who plays Erik, said in an interview last year.

@@ozi9888 Not according to Ivar Forsling who played Erik, Wilhelm's older brother. He stated in an interview with the Purple Rain Press that Erik is 21, August 19 and Wilhelm 17. It is the the second PRP interview he did last year, the 59 minute -long interview. Sorry Ozi, you're wrong.

As you can see, they LOVE a good cliff-hanger in this show. I’m not sure if anyone answered this in previous comments, but no, this show isn’t based on some other source material. However, since Omar is a singer, you can get obsessed with his music and that material. :) I watched all 6 episodes in one sitting when I first watched it. There was just no stopping…lol. Looking forward to your future reactions to the rest of the season.

Sara is one year older than Simon. From their dialogue in the first episode (going to the bus stop after school) it is clear that she was bullied in their previous school probably due to her Asperger's to an extent that she had to repeat the class, therefore she is in the same class as Simon and therefore they together transfered to Hilerska. The show is not based on previous book, the script is an original work written by Lisa Ambjorn. Maddy is speaking English because she is an exchange student from USA and she understands swedish but she is not confident enough to speak in Swedish.

Edvin was 17 during the filming of Season 1 and Omar was 21/22 (turned 22 in the middle of filming of Season 1). Edvin ist 19 now and Omar will be 24 in November. YR is original material by Lisa Ambjörn, head writer and creator of the show.
I thought I remember Omar turning 21 on set actually?

Yeah, it is not based on a book or so. Lisa Ambjörn, the creator, did a really throughout research before writing the script (along with the director and other people in the writing team)
August is taking ADHD pills to perform extra good in school and in rowing team.

The meds August is taking: Adderall
Overly simplified, medications such as Adderall are chemically identical to ‚street drugs‘ like speed/pep
In people with ADHD/ADD, taking stimulants like this makes their brain ‚slow down‘ (because it’s already going ‚too fast‘ because of the ADHD/ADD, so it can’t go any faster)
In people without these diagnoses, they are just extremely potent stimulants that allows their users to study for longer at a time and study ‚harder‘/faster (or, for uses uses: dance all night)
Because of this duality (valuable medicine for some, ‚fun‘ drugs for others) prescriptions are highly regulated so that people with ADHD don’t just sell their medicine for profit.

@@JackieRossLavender It's not as strict in Sweden as in the US though. People who self-medicated before diagnosis aren't banned like in the US. And there's a bit more slack so that most people have backup meds, you don't need to wait exactly one month to pick up next months' meducation, and so on. I live in neighbour country Norway and I pick up 3 months of meds at a time, and I have at least a month of meds at home in case of shortages bc big pharma are pricks. (I had a major scare once with an unrelated medicine that was out of stock for weeks bc a pharma company stopped making it.)
Yeah, a LOT of people with ADHD self-medicate with coffee because caffeine actually calms them down and doesn't give them energy like it does for people without ADHD.
I am so excited for you to finish this series it’s one of my favorite shows and I would give anything to be able to watch it for the first time again!!! The 2nd season comes out November 1st and you should watch it! The first 4 minutes of the 2nd season is on UA-cam too!
I have actually finished the series now. I finished filming the videos this week (they’re just such beasts to edit and my work life is insane right now so getting them out as quick as I can). I’m blown away by the show, though. Going to do a react to the season 2 teaser for sure. and I arrive back home from vacation november 6th so will be jumping straight into S2 reactions.

Arg I know I’m late to the party.. But the girl who speaks English is clearly an international student probably from the USA. She has a North American accent. And let’s be honest all Swedes know English lol hence why they understand her but respond in Swedish

I've seen many reactors mute the volume or even remove the music to avoid copyright issues.
i’ve tried it a few different ways in the past but this feels like the most authentic way to react to it such an amazing show. UA-cam is being RUTHLESS right now with blocking content so i’ve just got to be careful.
